Recap / The Real Ghostbusters S 4 E 8 The Brooklyn Triangle

Go To

Ray and Winston are searching around the bedroom in vain for their baseball and sock respectively. Peter enters and initially thinks those guys are just scatty, but then he loses some food and a shoe. Meanwhile, two construction workers notice a glowing hole in the ground. They tell their boss, Big Ed, and think they should call the Ghostbusters, but Big Ed thinks they should fill in the hole instead. He does so, but this just widens the hole, so one of the workers calls the Ghostbusters anyway.

Meanwhile, Janine has lost her typewriter, and Slimer sees Peter's shoes walking on their own. However, when he tells Peter, he doesn't believe him... until he sees them for himself. The Ghostbusters get called out to the construction site (in Brooklyn), and Peter, Ray, Winston, and Slimer head out, but Egon stays behind to deal with high PKE readings.

On the way there, Peter and Slimer tell Ray and Winston about the shoes, but aren't believed. Then, a bunch of objects start floating up into the air, including pieces of the Ecto-1 and the road (which rolls up). Meanwhile, at the construction site, Big Ed wants to throw dynamite down the hole, but a cop tells him to wait until the Ghostbusters arrive.

When they do arrive, Winston reveals that Ed is his father, and then two demons in miner gear come out of the hole. The Ghostbusters blast them, then Ed detonates the dynamite. This initially closes up the hole, but the demon miners widen it, and the Zeddemores fall through.

Ray tells Egon about this on the radio and decides to drive down the hole despite Egon's warnings. When the guys and Slimer go through the hole, they find themselves in a dimension full of random odds and ends, in addition to bat-winged demons that appeared to be searching for something. Ray determines that this place is called the "Land of Lost Objects", which is just what it sounds like. Meanwhile, the Zeddemores are in prison. Winston picks the lock, but then a creature named the Collector appears, who reveals that he's searching for something and using the Zeddemores as insurance so the other Ghostbusters won't interfere.

Peter tries to fire at the bat-winged demons, but the proton packs apparently don't work in the Land of Lost Objects. Meanwhile, Egon is still working, only for the firehouse to get sucked into the Land of Lost Objects as well. Egon and Janine exit, and the former gives the others devices so the proton packs will work. The Collector reveals that what he seeks is a key, and it's been gone for ten thousand years. Everyone else parts a moat with the proton packs and approaches the castle.

They send Slimer in, since he's immune to the various traps, and he finds the Zeddemores. The Collector reveals that the key is meant to free him from the fortress, since he used to also be a ghost hunter but was imprisoned there by demons. Then, he notices Big Ed's necklace, which is a family heirloom, and reveals that it contains the missing half of the key. Ed gives the Collector the half, he joins them together, and everything (and everyone) is put back where it belongs.

This episode provides examples of

  • Acid-Trip Dimension: The entry to the Land of Lost Objects has swirling colours.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism:
    • Peter, then Ray and Winston, dismiss the stories of the moving shoes, despite being paranormal investigators.
    • Big Ed initially didn't believe in ghosts before seeing Slimer, even after being transported to another dimension.
  • Badass in Distress: Winston, one of the Ghostbusters, gets imprisoned alongside his father.
  • Child Prodigy: Implied when Egon remembers receiving a microscope for his third birthday.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Downplayed when Peter and Janine insult the bat-winged demons, which aren't as powerful as some other demons they've encountered but are still demonic, to their faces.
  • Distressed Dude: The Collector and the Zeddemore men are locked up in a prison in the Land of Lost Objects.
  • Dramatic Irony: The audience sees the shoes moving before Peter does, and then later he and Slimer are not believed when the audience knows the shoes did move.
  • Early Personality Signs: Apparently, Egon has been into science since he was three at the oldest, if his receiving a microscope for his third birthday is anything to go by.
  • Ectoplasm: Slimer gets slime on Winston's face when he kisses him.
  • Evil Laugh: The Collector laughs evilly when preventing the Zeddemores from leaving.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When Charlie first suggests calling the Ghostbusters, Ed stubbornly refuses. It turns out Ed is Winston's father and never approved of his son's choice in vocation.
  • Flashy Teleportation: The Collector disappears in smoke.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Ray thinks that driving through the portal is the only chance he's got, despite Egon warning that it's dangerous.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: At the beginning, a pair of pink boxers with Ghostbusters logos printed on can be seen.
  • Hero Antagonist: The Collector is the antagonist since he steals things and locks up the Zeddemores, but he's not evil; he was just trying to break out of his prison.
  • Hero of Another Story: The Collector was a mage that battled assorted ghosts before running afoul of a particularly powerful demon.
  • I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: Egon is leery about Ray driving into the portal.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Peter says the shoes didn't move and Slimer's just joking... right before seeing them move.
  • Irony: Peter starts losing things seconds after berating Ray and Winston for always losing things.
  • It's All My Fault: Since the ghosts emerged from the hole at his construction site, Ed blames himself for the whole mess.
  • Large and in Charge: Ed Zeddemore is very muscular, to the point of being called "Big" Ed, and he's the boss of the construction workers.
  • Lean and Mean: Downplayed for the Collector — he's very skinny and while he did imprison the Zeddemores, it was part of his plan to get free.
  • Lost Food Grievance: Peter gets angry when his hamburger and milk go missing.
  • Mistaken for Thief: When Peter's hamburger and milk disappears, he initially thinks Slimer took them, probably because Slimer has been known to steal food and beverages before.
  • Mythology Gag: Peter calls Slimer "spud" like Ray did in the movie several times.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: The Collector says he was essentially a Ghostbuster before he was imprisoned.
  • Not Me This Time: Slimer is usually the one to steal food and drink, so Peter had reason for accusing him. This time, however, it was the Collector who did it.
  • Not So Stoic: Egon smiles when his microscope comes back.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Ghostbusters freeze up and Slimer says, "Uh-oh!" when they realise the proton packs don't work in the Land of Lost Objects.
  • Platonic Kissing: Slimer kisses Winston on the cheek.
  • Say My Name:
    • Peter yells, "Slimer!" when he thinks he took his lunch.
    • Slimer yells, "Winston!" when the Zeddemores fall down the portal.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: The Collector was imprisoned in the castle by a powerful demon 10,000 years ago.
  • Seen It All: Egon's justification for staying at the firehouse rather than go to the construction site.
Ray: A demon sighting in Brooklyn.
    Egon: Sounds fairly routine.
  • Slapstick: When a mailbox comes back, a man bumps into it.
  • Smelly Feet Gag: When Janine wonders if the firehouse was burgled, Peter asks what burglar would take Winston's dirty sock.
  • So Proud of You: After hearing the Collector's explanation, Ed says he believes it, but Winston agreeing seals the deal for him.
Ed: My boy oughta know. He's a Ghostbuster.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": The antagonist is the Collector.
  • Tempting Fate: Peter is certain nothing supernatural is causing objects to go missing, but he's dead wrong.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Peter calls one of the bat-winged demons "pal" before blasting it.
  • Villain of Another Story: The demon that trapped the Collector. No Name Given, but said to be extremely powerful and dangerous.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Slimer morphs into one of the demons to blend in.
  • Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Ed wasn't particularly happy that Winston became a Ghostbuster rather than follow in his footsteps and become a construction worker. They hash it out, while in the cell.
Winston: You just can't accept that, can you?
Ed: That you chase ghosts? That you blow things up with lasers? That's no job, Son; that's a videogame.
