Recap / The Real Ghostbusters S 1 E 12 Janines Genie

Go To

The Ghostbusters prepare to leave for a job, when Janine stops and complains that her job is boring compared to theirs. She asks to come with them and they let her, even allowing her to wear a uniform and a proton pack. When she sees a ghost, she tries to leave, but Peter makes her stay and help. She enjoys it and wants to be a Ghostbuster too, but the guys don't let her become one without practicing first.

Their client, an old man, has no money but offers a relic of his as payment, so Janine picks out an old-fashioned lamp. The Ghostbusters think this is a ridiculous choice, but that doesn't put her off. She asks Slimer what he thinks of the lamp, but he laughs too, and the guys angrily chase him for eating Peter's watermelon.

Janine polishes the lamp, which accidentally summons a genie, who offers her three wishes. She thinks it's a prank the guys are pulling and leaves, then he grows large, laughs evilly, and summons his "siblings" (a bunch of weird-looking ghosts) from the lamp for a "vacation".

Peter prepares to spank Slimer while the others watch, but is interrupted by the bell ringing. Janine tells the Ghostbusters about their mission, but they address her as "boss" and "boss lady". As it turns out, the genie has granted her first wish, to be the Ghostbusters' boss. She makes her second wish, for Egon to fall in love with her, and then when everyone is gone, the genie summons his "siblings" again.

In the car, Egon falls for Janine (who is driving since she's now the boss) and starts calling her beautiful, to the confusion of the other Ghostbusters and disgust of Slimer. They arrive at the job, but Egon is too distracted by Janine to work. Slimer finds some ectoplasm coming from a locker, and Winston discovers that the lockers are full of ghosts. They aim their proton packs, but the ghosts fly away with the Ghostbusters in pursuit.

They go onto a plane and two ghosts start flying it, then more ghosts, dressed as stewardesses, throw food everywhere. The Ghostbusters chase the ghosts into the cockpit, but they escape. Peter and Janine land the plane after a bit of a struggle and a boy hands them a newspaper. They conclude that the ghosts appear to be on vacation as they're haunting all the "fun" areas, and Egon speculates that they're coming from a portal that must be sealed off before it becomes too powerful.

They go to the firehouse and determine that the portal is in the lamp, so Janine wishes the ghosts back into the lamp for her third wish. The genie, however, claims that the offer of a third wish was a lie and refuses to return them. Ray decides to "reverse the polarity" of the lamp so it can work as a trap, but someone needs to volunteer to go into it. Janine volunteers, feeling responsible for the ordeal, and confronts the genie, who turns into a demon. Peter, Ray, and Egon appear and zap the demon, while Janine works with the lamp and they trap the stray ghosts and the genie.

Afterwards, Egon is no longer in love with Janine and the guys try to make her one of them, but she wants to stick with her old job. She is about to say what she'd wish for if she got her third wish, but the Ghostbusters and Slimer "shh" her.
