Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 4 E 7 Break Up Reaction

Go To

As Flash and Twilight try to come to terms with their recent breakups with Adagio and Timber, Shining Armor investigates a Tragnik Radiation that is linked to a bank robbery.

  • Amicable Exes: This is played with between both of the broken up couples from the previous chapter, with different results.
    • Flash and Adagio, despite saying how they wanted to keep being friends despite breaking up have been awkward around each other for a week. However, after Flash gets some encouragement from his parents, he sits down with Adagio and they are able to start over with each other as normal friends.
    • Twilight starts to think that breaking up with Timber might have been a mistake, made more complicated by Timber pestering her to take him back and trying to convince her to move away from Canterlot with him after graduation to leave all the weirdness behind. Ultimately, Twilight decides not to get back together with Timber, realizing she wants something different than he does out of life. Though she still thinks positively of him because of his good qualities it is implied that Timber doesn't want to be friends with her anymore since he is apparently ghosting her.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Shining gets a call from his friend Spearhead, saying how they might need him to help investigate a bank robbery due to how weirdly it was robbed, Shining asks him "So something strange happens and you instantly think alien?" with Spearhead not knowing how to respond to that, before Shining says he should consider joining the Plumbers with those good instincts.
  • Breather Episode: Following two major breakups in the previous chapter, this chapter is relatively light on action and focuses more on Flash and Adagio learning how to be Just Friends without things being awkward between them and Twilight wondering if she was right to dump Timber.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Shining gets the focus of the B-Plot this chapter, with him taking a solo mission investigating how a radiation not found on Earth is linked to a bank robbery and chases after a biker using alien tech to phase through walls.
  • Decon-Recon Switch: This chapter plays with Amicable Exes. Following their breakup in the previous chapter, Flash and Adagio agreed they wanted to stay friends with each other, but it is shown they have spent a week being awkward around each other, with Flash barley able to stay in the same room as Adagio. Trying to stay friends with someone after a failed relationship can be hard. Flash's parents help him realize though that if friendships are important enough, then they are worth working though the issues and staying cool. Flash and Adagio are ultimately able to get past their awkwardness and start a normal friendship with each other.
  • EMP: Shining eventually stops the biker using an EMP Cannon, disabling both his motorcycle and his alien tech.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much as Timber wants to see Flash fail, blaming him for getting between him and Twilight, he doesn't want it to be at the cost of an old woman's life, when the Omnitrix times out before Flash can save her from a collapsing building.
  • Heroic Bystander: Discussed briefly between Adagio and Timber. While Twilight and Flash are working trying to save civilians from a bus crash and a collapsing building, Adagio calls out Timber for not doing anything to help. Timber states he is just a normal guy with no superpowers, but Adagio says there are millions of "normal guys" on the planet who still find ways to help, and demonstrates by helping get some of the civilians to safety herself.
  • No Name Given: The biker that robbed the bank is not given a name.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Timber is shown to have not taken Twilight breaking up with him well. He tries to convince her to take him back by saying that Canterlot and all the weird stuff happening in it is why she lost interest, trying to convince her to move away with him after she graduates. Once it becomes clear to him how Twilight now has a connection with Flash, and is no longer the same girl that likes him, he angrily marches off while growling how he hates this city, and is implied to be ghosting Twilight later when she can't contact him.
  • A Rotten Time to Revert: While Flash is saving civilians from a collapsing building as Kagenobi, the Omnitrix times out and changes him back right when he learns there is still an old woman inside. Unable to wait for it to recharge, Flash instead charges in to save her himself without his alien forms.
  • Ship Tease: The now single Flash and Twilight get some together towards the end, getting milkshakes at Sugarcube Corner together while talking about their failed relationships and saying until they find someone else they still have each other and their friends.
  • Shout-Out: While Shining is chasing the biker, the narration briefly refer to the biker as "Speed Racer".
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Sonata was a big shipper for Adagio and Flash, and as such has spent a week crying after their breakup, seemingly being more upset about it than Adagio herself.
    • By the end of the chapter, Adagio seems to be a supporter for Flash and Twilight getting together. Seeing them together and how they look at each other makes her understand why her relationship with Flash hit a dead-end, and she realizes she is okay with it.
