Film: Quest for Camelot (1998)
This review contains examples of:
- Angst Nuke:
- There is a scene where the Critic ends up destroying all of Chicago during his review of Quest for Camelot. He keeps demanding that the movie explain what is going on until his frustration finally erupted in an actual atomic explosion.
"Explain, movie! Explain! JUUUST! EEEEX-PLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!!!!!!" *causes a nuclear explosion leveling the city, then afterwards he double takes on the wreckage he just caused, then looks at the camera* "Sorry."- And then Critic does this twice over Bladebeak's seemingly inexplicable Heel–Face Turn at the last third of the movie. Lampshaded later in the episode: "Allow me to refer you to the previous nuclear explosion."
Critic: Sorry, I'm going for two!- Yet another one appears, albeit downplayed: a miniature mushroom cloud bursts out of the Critic's forehead.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: How the Nostalgia Critic views Ruber's guards who inadvertently let Kayley escape.Nostalgia Critic: (gasps) I HAVE HANDS!
- Bad "Bad Acting": Critic decries Ruber's line "The ogre's butt" as this. He even wonders if Gary Oldman was blackmailed into finishing his lines with the knowledge that he also did Dr. Smith from Lost in Space.
- Expy: Critic calls Kayley an expy of Belle and the ogre an expy of Rock Biter, and by expy, he means "blatant rip-off."
- Follow the Leader: Invoked when the Critic comments that many animators in the 1990s were trying to beat Disney by "doing the exact same thing they did."
- Genre Savvy: When Critic sees the opening of a young Kayley playing with her father, he obviously knows he will die.
- Girl on Girl Is Hot:Kayley: I want to be a knight — go on grand adventures, fighting evil, rescuing damsels in distress!
Critic: Hello, hot character trait!
Kayley: What is a damsel, anyway?
Critic: Good-bye, hot character trait. - My God, What Have I Done?: Critic when he kills Mary Poppins, Bert and Mickey Mouse.Critic: I'm sorry, Mickey! Quest for Camelot made me do it!
Mickey: I... understand. - Obviously Evil: Critic knows Ruber is the bad guy just from looking at him in the roll call. The "audience" guesses King Arthur.
- Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: "JUST... EX... PLAAAAAAAIN!!!!!"
- Running Gag: "Explain, movie! Explain!"
- Shout-Out
- Critic refers to the cliffside where Kayley and her father are playing at as Pride Shlock.
- The scene where the knights do their roll call is compared to Captain Planet, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and The Mickey Mouse Club.
- When Critic refers to Devon and Cornwall as a "double dragon", the title screen for Double Dragon pops up.
- At one point, we see King Arthur say that Camelot is a "silly place".
- The way the Critic roars, "JUST... EX... PLAAAAAAIIINNNNNNN!!!" when he loses his temper is a parody of King Leonidas from Bedknobs and Broomsticks roaring, "STOP... THAT... BAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!"
- Soundtrack Dissonance: The Critic is shocked to discover that "The Prayer" originates from this film, specifically at a chase scene, and exemplifies how dissonant it would be by showing a brutal scene from Sin City set to the aforementioned song.
"The ogre's butt!"
