After searching for her next big scientific breakthrough, Lisa discovers that Flip is a marvel of modern science.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguously Human: Flip is revealed to be this due to his misplaced organs, having gills on his legs, and being able to withstand subzero temperatures.
  • Bizarre Belching: Flip's weird personal attributes take an even weirder turn when he burps green gas out of his ear. And after drinking all the water in the tank he was trapped in, he belches more green gas — this time powerfully enough to send him flying.
  • Bland-Name Product: Lisa uses a Whahoo Search engine.
  • Brain Freeze: Lisa gets this after drinking a flippee. Flip gets this at the end, the twist being that his brain is in his knee.
  • Gasshole: At one point, Flip burps up green gas from his ear. Later, he burps up the same gas again when drinking all the water in the tank Lisa put him in. The force of the burp is enough to send him flying. Hell, he even farted from both of his butts.
  • Glitter Litter: Several characters get pranked with glitter bombs in their faces.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: Not only does the guard let Lisa in with an obviously fake ID, he also falls asleep while Lincoln is blocking all the security cameras.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: Dr. Linnaeus only refers to Flip as "it" since she only views Flip as a test subject and not as a human being.
  • It's A Small Net After All: It employs the "Person/Organization can't be found on the internet in order to show they're mysterious/secretive" trope. When Lisa looks for "Dr. Linnaeus", she gets no results, when at least she should've gotten results about the actual Dr. Linnaeus. And when looking for Incognito Labs, instead of receiving multiple results about labs with the word "incognito" in it (or even other labs named "Incognito"), she gets only one result, and the link fries her computer.
  • Killed Off for Real: While not shown onscreen, Dr. Linnaeus gets killed off in the end. She was launched into space, and earlier said that the chances of surviving in space without a helmet are very low.
  • Minor with Fake I.D.: Lisa forges an ID by pasting her photo and the name "Dr. Lemme Inn" on Dr. Linnaeus' presentation card. The guard falls for it.
  • That Poor Plant: The gas from Flip's earburp kills a nearby plant.
  • Totem Pole Trench: Lisa, Lincoln, and Clyde do this to sneak into Incognito Labs and save Flip.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Dr. Linnaeus' plan is to throw Flip into outer space without a spacesuit, in order to study its actual effects in the human body. She just couldn't find the right subject... until now.
Dr Linnaeus: You said it yourself: It's barely human.
  • Wing Ding Eyes: Flip gets the classic dollar signs when Lisa tells him that participating in her research will get him tons of publicity.

Band Together

Luna has to decide between playing in a band with her friends or playing with professionals.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, Scoots reveals that she got a tattoo of the Moon Goats, and the band quickly tells her they don't want to see it. At the end of the episode, Scoots falls on top of Mr. Grouse and he compliments her tattoo.
  • Crowd Surfing: Scoots does this at the end during the Moon Goats concert.
  • Day in the Limelight: For Luna
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: The plot of the episode focuses on Luna making one. She initially chooses idol, until learning that her new bandmates aren't as fun as her friends.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Right before going on tour, Luna decides at the last second that she would rather go back to her old band, only to find out that they have already replaced her.
  • Irony: The song Luna sings has lyrics that are about her always wanting to play with her band. She easily abandons them when offered the chance to join a band of professionals.
  • Powder Gag: Several characters get pranked with glitter bombs in their faces.
  • Running Gag: Mr. Grouse getting hit by stray objects.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Jolly Jim vomits offscreen after Luna tries to offer him cheese fries, unaware that the smell makes him sick.
