Recap / The Loud House S 2 E 25 The Crying Dame Anti Social

Go To

The Crying Dame: The children give Lily an old singing toy from the attic to help her stop crying, but it quickly drives them crazy, but when the toy is taken away it causes Lily to become increasingly sad.

Anti-Social: The kids try to convince Dad of the wonders of modern technology after he declares war on their electronic devices.

"The Crying Dame"

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Lincoln's operation is called Operation Freedom From Fenton the Feel-Better Fox.
  • All Balloons Have Helium: Luan attempts to cheer a dejected Lily up by making her a balloon dinosaur. Lily, without even turning around, pushes it away, making it float towards a cactus and pop (its eyes wait to follow through until after they land on Lucy's bangs).
  • Annoyingly Repetitive Child: Rita and Lynn Sr. claim Lori used to be this with Fenton, playing his song on loop and driving them so nuts they almost didn't have any more kids. When Lily inherits Fenton, History Repeats, and she drives her siblings nuts by playing Fenton's song on loop, even at night.
  • Big "NO!": The Loud kids when they arrive at the Royal Woods dump too late to save Fenton the Feel-Better Fox from being thrown into a trash compactor.
  • Bittersweet Ending: As Lincoln puts it:
Lincoln: "Well, we might be [singing Fenton's song] for the rest of our lives, but at least Lily's happy again."
  • Comical Overreacting: Played with; the Loud kids believe their parents reaction to Lily getting Fenton is this, with them getting earplugs and soundproofing their room, so they ignore their warnings. But after three days, they come to realize their parents were right about how annoying Fenton is and that their reaction was justified.
  • Continuity Nod: A photograph of baby Lori with Fenton is seen in this episode, and just like on her baby picture in "Not a Loud", she clearly had a pointed head as a baby.
    • As in "No Such Luck", Lincoln wears a costume for a reason concerning his family. In this case, it’s to cheer Lily up, and the Fenton costume is much more comfortable and fun to wear than the squirrel suit.
  • Creepy Child: According to Mr. and Mrs Loud, Lucy apparently didn't cry much as a baby (if at all)—in fact, Mr. and Mrs. Loud let Lucy's bangs grow out long enough to cover her eyes because they found her staring to be creepy. But much to their discomfort, Lucy claims that she can still see just fine despite her bangs covering her eyes.
  • The Dreaded: The parents feel this way about Fenton, given how annoying his song can be, and thus call him the Demon Toy.
Rita: You don't understand! That horrible fox drove us so crazy, we almost didn't have any more children!
Lisa: Well, you certainly went the other way with that...
  • Ear Worm: Fenton's song ends up stuck in the ten oldest Loud children's heads. As Luna puts it:
Luna: Say what you would about that fox, but his tune has a wicked hook.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: The Loud kids decide to sing the Fenton song to Lily when they admit that it's stuck in their heads.
  • Explosive Results: Fenton's singing causes Lisa to screw up an experiment, resulting in an explosion that blasts her out of her room.
  • Fall of the House of Cards: Happens to Lincoln due to Fenton’s annoying song.
  • Goofy Suit: When they fail to get the real Fenton back, Lincoln dresses up as him to cheer up Lily.
  • Headdesk: Lily does it against the tray of her high chair when Leni tries to feed her.
  • Heroic BSoD: Lily, when Fenton is thrown out. She becomes so depressed that she loses all motivation to do anything, from eating her food, to playing with her other toys. She becomes so devastated from losing Fenton that she can't even cry about it.
  • I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: Used twice by Lola, specifically saying "I hate to say this." First when she says that they have to get rid of Fenton.note  The second time is when she says they have to get Fenton back.note
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: A platonic sibling variation—as much as they hate Fenton and his singing, Lincoln and the rest of his sisters ultimately just want Lily to be happy when they see how sad she is without him around.
  • Incessant Music Madness: Lily plays with Fenton nonstop, to the point where his song drives everyone else to madness, and the rest of the kids are determined to get rid of him. They immediately regret it once they realize how increasingly saddened Lily becomes when Fenton goes missing.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: All the Loud kids have this reaction when they realize how sad Lily is over the loss of Fenton.
  • Ocular Gushers: The opening title card has Lily cry in this manner.
  • Oh, Crap!: This is Mr. and Mrs. Loud's reaction when they see Lori dug up her old Fenton toy again and gave it to Lily, since they remember all too well how annoying that toy can become.
    • Comes up again when they come back and find the rest of their kids singing Fenton's song and Lincoln in a Fenton costume.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: You know you've made a usually energetic baby like Lily so sad about losing her new favorite toy, that she doesn't even have the energy to cry about it.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Lily's the only one who likes Fenton's song. The rest of the Louds find it annoying; this includes Lori, even though Fenton was her favorite toy when she was Lily's age. When Fenton is taken away from Lily, it causes her to fall into Heroic BSoD territory.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Even though he's technically a kid's toy, Fenton looks a lot like Foxy from Five Nights at Freddy's. One can believe that this would explain why Mr. and Mrs. Loud see it as The Dreaded.
    • At the end of the episode, the sun is revealed to be in the shape of Fenton's head, Teletubbies-style.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Fenton's constant singing ends up with all of Lily's siblings sleep-deprived. Leni even states that she was so tired she fell asleep in the middle of cutting Lori's hair.
  • Spoonerism: While trying to feed Lily, Leni says, "Open the airplane, here comes the tunnel!"

"Anti-Social"

  • Compressed Vice: Lynn Sr.'s stance against technology comes completely out of nowhere for the sake of the plot.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Lynn Sr. posts two (one for Lori and the other for Lincoln) on the internet since it’s throwback Thursday. Naturally, they are not happy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Lucy is shocked to hear Luna and Lori compare cutting the internet to cutting off their oxygen supply.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The kids manage to introduce Lynn Sr. to the joys of technology and it ends up going to his head.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Lynn Sr. starts out as a type 1, as proven when Lori tries to teach him how to do something simple like texting. He quickly overcomes it though with the help of his kids.
  • Ironic Echo: When Lynn Sr. threatens to cut off the internet, Lori and Luna say that he might as well cut off their oxygen supply. Later, when the kids cut off the internet, their now phoneaholic father uses the same words.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The Loud kids have this reaction when Lynn Sr. goes way too far with his new love for technology, to the point that it starts interfering with their daily lives.
  • Negative Continuity: How else could Lynn Sr. go from a former Information Technologist who did his job well enough to get work bonuses to a clueless luddite?
  • New Technology Is Evil: Lynn Sr. believes his family’s electronic devices are this since they spend so much time on them. His kids try to convince him otherwise, and succeed a little too well.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Said by Lori to her siblings when they realize they turned their father into a phoneaholic, just like them.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Not just Lori, but the rest of the Loud kids and Rita. Lynn Sr. is initially the only Loud who isn't affected, but once his kids get him hooked onto his smartphone, he becomes a worse example of this than all of them.
  • Potty Dance: Lynn Sr. ends up doing this when he has to wait in line for the bathroom, while he just had several Flippie samples. Lincoln offers him some distraction in the form of a tablet game, but since said game involves water, it obviously doesn’t help his case. Lola and Lana have more luck with the game they suggest.
  • Wall of Text: Lynn Sr.'s first text message to Lori is very, very long.
  • Waxing Lyrical: When catching Lynn Sr. gazing at Mr. Grouse's device, Luna says to him, "Oops, you did it again."
