Recap / The Lion Guard S 2 E 18 The Wisdom Of Kongwe

Go To

Summary: Fuli and Makini are tasked with escorting one of the Pride Lands' wisest animals, a tortoise named Kongwe, to Pride Rock.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Achilles' Heel: Fuli has a hard time following zigzag patterns when running, giving Makucha an advantage in escaping from her by running this way. Under Kongwe's advice, Fuli realizes that Makucha always zigzags and she shouldn't imitate him, and thus she manages to catch him by running in a straight path.
  • An Aesop: Be patient. Take a moment to stop, think, and observe your surroundings. You will find a solution in time.
  • Broken Aesop: Simba specifically said that he wanted to speak with Kongwe as soon as possible - a perfectly reasonable request given the new threat at hand. Which, in turn, makes it perfectly reasonable for Fuli to tell Kongwe to quit screwing around and get a move on.
  • Escort Mission: Makini and Fuli must escort Kongwe to Pride Rock so she can speak with Simba on how to defeat Scar.
  • Flipping Helpless: Averted; when Kongwe gets flipped over and lands on a rock, she simply tilts to the side and gets right back on her feet. Truth in Television as most chelonias are able to right themselves when flipped over, contrary to popular belief.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode picks up some time after the previous left off, as Simba and Kion note Mufasa on Scar's return.
  • Instant Chucks: While trying to fight Makucha, Makini's Bakori staff breaks and turns into a set of makeshift nunchucks to fight with.
  • Literal-Minded: Makini is deeply hurt when Makucha tells her he dislikes (the taste of) mandrills.
  • Meaningful Name: Kongwe means "Ancient" in Swahili, which fits with her being a long-lived tortoise.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Fuli causes some problems due to her impatience. Namely, she and Makini hastily leave Pride Rock to find Kongwe without getting informed what kind of animal she is, and later their attempt to push Kongwe to Pride Rock as she retracted in her shell to ponder Fuli's philosophy (seeing better if you're faster) only causes them to enter a detour.
  • Proverbial Wisdom: Kongwe expresses her wisdom primarily via this trope.
  • Suddenly Voiced: This is the first time an eland is shown speaking in the series.
  • Wham Shot: The episode starts with not just Kion but Simba talking to Mufasa about Scar's return.
  • Wise Old Turtle: Kongwe, a giant tortoise who is one of the Pride Lands' oldest and wisest residents and offers sage-like advice to Fuli and Makini as they escort her to Pride Rock.
