Recap / The Fairly Odd Parents S 3 E 9 Wandas Day Off

Go To

Original air date: January 10, 2003 (produced in 2002)

Since Wanda is feeling overworked, Timmy and Cosmo give her a day off at a spa. However, the two might not be able to handle things without her when (thanks to another of Timmy's wishes) cockroaches gain intelligence and start taking over the world.

Tropes:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The Fairy World Spa receptionist acts polite to Wanda, but then rudely throws her in the trash and laughs at her at the end of the tour for getting wished there instead of getting a reception.
  • Characterization Click Moment: While Wanda had signs of being the responsible one and Cosmo having his spacey moments prior, this episode would firmly establish Wanda as the Only Sane Man of the trio and Cosmo to be a complete moron that struggles to function without her, which would become their dynamic from here on out.
  • Cockroaches Will Rule the Earth: A very literal example, as upon gaining intelligence, the cockroaches automatically gain the ambition to Take Over the World. It's also shown that not even magic can kill them off, so they have to be relocated somewhere else.
  • Cucumber Facial: Gets a Lampshade Hanging from the receptionist when Wanda arrives at the spa, with her calling it "that silly cucumber on the eyes treatement".
  • Cutting the Knot: Wanda easily deals with the cockroaches once she shows up, despite it being established you can't kill cockroaches with magic. Wanda says she didn't kill them, she just poofed them somewhere else.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Timmy gets a good dig at Cosmo after the cockroaches tie them up.
Timmy: Roaches continue to show single-mindedness. Cosmo continues to show empty-mindedness.
  • Four-Fingered Hands: Actually gets a Lampshade Hanging from Juandissimo when he refers to his fingers as "his eight little friends".
  • Genre Blind: Cosmo calls in Martians to try to destroy the roaches, reasoning since nothing from Earth can destroy them he got something not from Earth. Timmy calls him out on how stupid this was, saying Martians destroy everything, except roaches.
Timmy: Don't you watch the movies?!
  • Ladykiller in Love: Juandissimo is revealed to be one, though it was kind of implied in his debut. He is ridiculously popular with Fairy World's women, as he has a line of clearly smitten girls desperate to be massaged by him, but unfortunately for them, the only woman he actually loves is his ex-girlfriend Wanda.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Wanda poofs the cockroaches away, sending the to Fairy World (or more specifically the spa she just came from where all the other fairies were stuck up and rude) where they continue their Take Over the World scheme; just for Fairy world domination instead of regular world domination.
  • Lustful Melt: A girl at the Fairy World Spa melts into a puddle when Juandissimo tickles her on the chin.
  • No-Sell: It turns out Cockroaches are immune to being killed by magic the same way they would survive a nuclear detonation.
  • Rock Beats Laser: One of the Martian flying saucers gets destroyed by a catapult throwing boulders at it.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Wanda arrives from the spa and finds out that Timmy made a wish that almost resulted in the cockroaches taking over the world, she assumes that they didn't tell her because he and Cosmo wanted her to have a nice day at the spa. Timmy and Cosmo, who actually just didn't want to get in trouble, decide to agree with that.
  • Take Over the World: The cockroaches try to do this, and almost accomplish it, after gaining intelligence.
  • Uplifted Animal: Timmy wishes for the cockroaches in his house to be intelligent enough to be able to tell him what they're thinking. It obviously doesn't end well.
  • Vocal Evolution: Juandissimo's voice is slightly deeper here compared to his first appearance in "Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary".
