Original air date: 5/4/2001 (produced in 2000)

Episode number: 6a

On a field trip to see Dimmsdale's mascot, Chompy the Goat, an accident makes Timmy out to be a hero while Vicky is accused of kidnapping Chompy (when Chompy was actually wished away by Timmy after seeing how unhappy he was), and things get complicated when Timmy begins wishing for horrible things in his sleep out of guilt over not telling the truth.

Tropes:

  • Babies Ever After: Chompy gets to mate with a female goat and he has a boy and a girl.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the citizens are running after Timmy to turn him into dog meat, Chompy witnesses this (with his family) and the four come to Timmy's aid the last minute. Since Chompy got a family, this redeemed Timmy in the eyes of the citizens.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Although Timmy gets to be a hero again, he still gets grounded for five months for lying to the whole town. Not that Timmy cares.
  • Brick Joke:
    • When Timmy, feeling guilty about lying, asks his parents if he hypothetically revealed he was the goatnapper, Dad demonstrates how he'd react: he Screams Like a Little Girl and faints. Then later when Timmy reveals on TV that he's responsible for Chompy's disappearance, after his parents do a Spit Take, Dad screams like a little girl and faints, staying true to his word.
    • One of the things a sleep-deprived Timmy wishes for is a giant monster that won't go away until he tells the truth about Chompy. When Timmy confesses that he was the one who released Chompy from his pen, the monster disappears after doing a Spit Take.
  • Chekhov's Gag: One of the things Timmy sees in the Chompy museum is a film of Chompy putting out a fire. When Timmy wishes himself over to Chompy's location in the wild, he then falls asleep and dream-wishes for the field to catch fire, and Chompy shows up to put it out.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Vicky is interrogated by being locked in stocks and having balloons rubbed against her head to give her an increasingly bad hair day.
  • Easily Forgiven:
    • The mayor and townspeople forgive Timmy after Chompy is revealed to have a family.
    • Averted with Timmy's parents, however. They still ground him for five months for lying, despite his lie making things better.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Implied. When Timmy comes clean about letting Chompy go, Vicky looks shocked as she spits the water out her mouth.
  • Exact Words: One not related to Timmy's wishes for a change:
Timmy: A dead end! I'm doomed!
Cosmo: Well, you lived a good life, right?
    Timmy: I'm only ten!
Cosmo: I said "good", not "long".
  • Facepalm: Whenever Timmy makes a really bad wish, Cosmo and Wanda do this.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: After Timmy wished Chompy free, Vicky came to get him and gave him a wedgie for the fun of it. As he stumbled around, he accidentally knocked her over onto Chompy's pen. When the Mayor and security guards arrive, they assume Vicky is a goatnapper that Timmy caught.
  • Kids Driving Cars: One of the rewards Timmy gets for capturing Vicky is a hovercraft. When Wanda points out that Timmy isn't old enough to drive, the Mayor gives Timmy a special ten-and-under driver's license. Sure enough, when Timmy drives home, he crashes the hovercraft.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For bullying Timmy by constantly wedging him, Vicky gets framed for being a goat-napper and she stays in jail for the whole episode. Chompy even gives Vicky a well-deserved wedgie.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Timmy helping Chompy leaves him a guilt-ridden, sleep-deprived mess that ultimately gets grounded.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: When Chompy is revealed to have a wife and two children, his son wears a blue shirt and hat and has blue eyes and his daughter wears a pink lei and has pink eyes.
  • Rain of Something Unusual: Timmy's guilty conscience manifests itself in the form of "sleep-wishing". One such sleep-wish is for it to be raining ducks.
  • Running Gag: A Spit Take is used when Timmy says something shocking.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: This is the first time Timmy's Dad is shown to do so.
  • Something We Forgot: After Timmy is grounded, Cosmo is certain they are still forgetting something, but he can't place it. Cut to Vicky still in the stocks and forgotten by everyone, except Chompy (who proceeds to give her a wedgie).
  • Spit Take:
    • The mayor and the other children do this after Cosmo insults Chompy.
    • Timmy's Parents, Vicky, and the Giant Monster all do this when Timmy confesses that he was the one who released Chompy from his pen.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Timmy whenever he sleep-wishes.
Timmy: Guilty... my fault... I wish... RAINING DUCKS!
  • Sympathy for the Devil:
    • Double subverted. Initially, Timmy thinks it's cool that Vicky got the blame for something he did; any second thoughts get drowned out by all the perks and popularity he gets for his "heroism." However, his subconscious is wracked with guilt over the whole thing, which leads to the dream wishing, so on some level, he does feel bad for her.
    • Played straight with Wanda, who is the only one to point out how unfair the situation is to Vicky.
  • Tempting Fate: After various bouts of dream wishing.
Wanda: It's only a matter of time before he wishes for something really dangerous.
Timmy: I WISH FOR A GIGANTIC MONSTER THAT WON'T GO AWAY UNTIL I TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT CHOMPY!
[fairies face palm and then raise their wands]
  • Wedgie: Vicky gives Timmy an atomic wedgie. Later, Chompy gives one to Vicky.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Implied. When the citizens run after Timmy, Timmy makes comments on how his life would be cut short.
  • You Are Grounded!: Timmy gets grounded for lying to the town in the end. He doesn't mind.
