In this, the final Halloween Episode, Carrie is upset that Halloween isn't what it used to be and take Gumball and Darwin on a journey showing how the movie monsters that once struck fear into the hearts of mortals are now nothing more than a mere nuisance to the people of Elmore.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: The orange construction worker is seen running through a factory and appears to be running from a ghoul, but when the ghoul finally reaches him, it turns out that he wasn't running from him, but because he was worried about being late.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Gumball agrees to some sort of ritual that will empower all the horrors of Elmore. Cut to him and Darwin boarding themselves inside their house as monsters run amok. The clown sincerely thanks Gumball for his help, and the episode ends.
  • Captain Ersatz: Each of the ghouls is based on a well-known horror movie character, including Candyman, Freddy Krueger, The Entity, Samara, Ghostface, Jason Voorhees and Pennywise.
  • Crowd Song: The Halloween song the characters sing at the beginning of the episode.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The art room from "The Candidate" comes back.
    • Sarah, Leslie, Anton, Carmen and Masami all reuse their Halloween costumes from "The Scam". In Anton's case, it was also used in "The Party" but not as a Halloween costume.
    • A crowd of characters sings in front of a house, similar to "The Compilation". Something similar also happened in one of the show's original trailer, except the characters weren't singing.
    • Ghosts can still be summoned by saying their names three times.
    • Apparently the Monster Clown that bought Alan's parents works at children's parties because his regular work of scaring people has dried up.
  • Continuity Snarl: Gumball tells Carrie "you've been dead for 300 years" despite multiple prior episodes establishing that she was born a ghost and was never alive. However, in "The Ghost", she did mention that she used to have a body. Also, in this episode, Carrie dislikes Halloween, but she likes it in "Halloween" and "The Scam", even saying in "Halloween" that a party is thrown at an abandoned house every year on the night of Halloween.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Carrie.
  • Delayed Reaction: Rocky, the ONLY character to actually be afraid of a ghoul in this episode, only begins fleeing when the ghoul phases through a floor waxer.
  • Facial Dialogue: Gumball makes a series of confused and annoyed facial expressions at Mr. Small when he asks where the psychic crystal convention that Gumball jokingly mentioned is. Mr. Small takes these expressions as directions, though Gumball intended a far less...helpful message.
Darwin: Then what did you tell him?
Gumball: Yeah, it’s not appropriate to say out loud.
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: Mr. Candy works in an organic supermarket to make ends meet.
    • Other ghouls have also had to take on other part-time jobs like entertaining at children’s parties (the Monster Clown) and landscaping (the Jason Captain Ersatz).
  • Fanservice: Yuki's Catwoman costume.
  • Grows on Trees: Discussed when Tobias asks Banana Joe if he knows how they can get more candy without trick-or-treating.
Banana Joe: We plant some and harvest it next fall!
  • Halloween Episode: Elmore celebrates Halloween again, except for Carrie and the ghouls.
  • Halloween Songs: "All Hail All Hallow's Eve", a song where the cast sings about all the things they like about the holiday, from the candy to costumes to being able to overcharge for certain items.
  • Horrifying the Horror: When a parody of Ghostface calls Sarah and asks if she wants to watch a scary movie, Sarah starts droning endlessly about the different kinds. By the time the caller decides to hang up, Sarah has snuck into their house, locked all the doors, and begun demanding they watch a scary movie together.
  • I Know What You Fear: Played for Laughs. When asked by a Freddy Krueger-esque Ghoul what he's most afraid of, Hank (The Red Construction Man) replies that he still has 19 years to pay off his mortgage.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: Carrie makes a series of lame excuses to not hang out with Gumball and Darwin on Halloween, but Gumball sees right through them.
Carrie: Go away! I’m in the middle of a...a...dinner!
    Gumball: You’re a ghost, you don’t eat.
Carrie: Yeah, well then, I-I’m busy!
Gumball: You’re immortal, you’ve got all the time in the world.
Carrie: Yeah, well, I’ve got a doctor’s appointment in the morning!
Gumball: Uh, you’ve been dead for 300 years. I’m not sure your health insurance will cover anything they find.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Lampshaded by the characters regarding Mr. Candy.
Tobias: You really don’t live up to your name, man.
  • "Not Wearing Pants" Dream: The Freddy Krueger Captain Ersatz ghoul is chasing a construction worker character through his dream, but it turns out the man was running in fear because he was dreaming that he was late for work. The dream then turns into one of these as the construction worker looks down to see that he’s pantsless.
  • Parental Bonus: Richard is dressed as Kratos. KRATOS.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stalker without a Crush: Leonard is spying on someone from a tree.
Gumball: See? There are some scary things out on Halloween night.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: A character parody of Samara from The Ring is shown.
  • Take That!: During "All Hail All Hallows Eve", there are references to Halloween-related business scams.
  • Vignette Episode: Much of the episode is separate skits of different things and people trying to be scary and failing.
  • What Are Records?: Alan and Leslie have no idea of what a VHS tape is, even though their school has regularly used such tapes in class. They initially mistake it for a book made of plastic ribbon, or a yo-yo from before gravity was discovered.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: For Halloween, Mr. Small dressed as Sailor Moon, Principal Brown dressed as Shirley Temple, Miss Simian dressed as Emperor Ming, and Harold dressed as a 16th-century queen.
