Nicole: I guess we all learned a lesson today! It's okay to commit a crime if it means you get away with a different crime!
Richard: Nicole, that's a terrible lesson.

After Richard buys a horse, the Wattersons turn their home into a BNB in an attempt to raise some extra cash. Unfortunately, they can't afford to live elsewhere in the meantime, so they secretly squat in their own house while the guest are staying.

Tropes:

  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: When Nicole and Richard get into bed with Ethel and Bernie (instead of just sleeping somewhere else to avoid being caught), four pairs of eyes can be seen when Bernie turns off the light.
Ethel: There looks like there’s more eyes than there should be in here.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Nicole thought Richard buying a horse was inevitable, so she lined up a buyer in advance.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If the Wattersons had stuck around for their guests to finish telling them about their fainting problems, Nicole and Richard never would’ve thought they accidentally killed them.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Hilariously lampooned when Richard’s food solution is calling an old pizza place he used to frequent like an ex-mafia member calling the don for one last job.
  • Downer Ending: The Wattersons' ploy ends up in flames and they don't got their money. They eventually run out of food money and are forced to eat the grass in their yard to survive for the time being.
  • Dramatic Irony: The audience are the only ones aware of Bernie and Ethel's fainting ailment.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When Nicole says that, sometimes it's ok to get away with one crime by doing another, Richard tells her that it's a terrible lesson.
  • Eat The Dog: The Wattersons fear that if they don't find some money fast, they're gonna have to eat the horse Richard bought. When renting the house fails, they look at him grazing and say they have only one option. They join him in eating the grass.
  • Facial Horror: Richard warming up a piece of cheese with the interior of the microwave (minus it's window) causes half his face to melt.
  • Furry Reminder: Nicole uses one of her claws to cut a hole in a pizza box while Ethel was paying for it, even doing so with cat-shaped eyes.
  • Good-Times Montage: Mixed with a Photo Montage. Ethel and Bernie have one thanks to the Wattersons “helping” them have fun on their trip.
  • Hand Rubbing: Nicole does this while coming up with her devious plan to cover up their (perceived) accidental crime.
  • House Squatting: The Wattersons squat in their own house while they're supposed to be renting it out to tourists.
  • Just One Little Mistake: Nicole's scheme to cover up her and Richard's apparent Accidental Murder seems to go off even better than intended, as they turn out to be alive, are convinced they did do all the things in the photos, and pay for their stay. Then Bernie and Ethel notice one of the pictures is of them sharing a Spaghetti Kiss, and point out they're actually siblings.
  • Money Dumb: Richard spent most of the family’s food money for the next month on a horse. He then used the rest of it to buy lottery tickets and a metal detector.
  • No Time to Explain: Richard says this when he’s picking the kids up from school and tells them to get on the horse.
  • Of Corpse He's Alive: Ethel and Bernie pass out from shock, so Richard and Nicole assume they died. Nicole decides to drag their bodies all across town, prop them up to look like they're enjoying themselves, take pictures of them for an album, and drop them off on a train back home so everyone will think they died of natural causes during the ride.
  • Place Worse Than Death: Elmore is considered so terrible that they haven't had any "tourists" since a pair came in 1983, frantically asking how to get out of town.
  • Please Wake Up: Inverted; Richard and Nicole assume their guests died, and the kids buy the "lie" that they're hibernating. In fact, they're not dead, just unconscious.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoof Aesop: Nicole says the lesson of the episode is "It's okay to commit a crime if it means you get away with a different crime."
Richard: Nicole, that's a terrible lesson!
Nicole: Not every lesson you learn is a good one.
  • Shmuck Bait: When the Goats notice there appear to be another couple of individuals in the bed with them whenever the lights are off, Bernie makes a fake clicking noise to simulate the switch being flicked. Cue Nicole and Richard getting into the bed from their hiding places.
  • Spotting the Thread: The goats realize they're being conned, that the Wattersons really were mooching off them and that they did render them unconscious when found out when they notice one of their pictures features them on a romantic date; they're brother and sister.
  • The Triple: When Bernie walks in to get a glass of water in the middle of the night while the Wattersons are gorging themselves on the kitchen floor, they make sound effects of various items found in the kitchen to take advantage of his poor eyesight without his glasses. Gumball “dings” and Bernie thinks he’s a microwave. Darwin makes knocking sounds and Bernie thinks he’s a melon. Richard’s cover was a little more...specific.
Richard: I’m a black forest gateau with a crunchy shortbread base, multiple layers of praline, and a glossy cocoa finish.
The Rest of the Wattersons: Gasp!
Bernie: Hmm. Must be a black forest gateau with a crunchy shortbread base, multiple layers of praline, and a glossy cocoa finish.
  • Very False Advertising: The picture the Wattersons posted on the rental site was that of a fancy-looking sitting room in a mansion. Turns out, it was just a really zoomed in picture...of a photograph of the sitting room hanging on the wall of their real, lower-middle class living room.
  • With Cat Like Tread: It's bad enough the Wattersons sneak just out of eyeshot of the Goats but Richard and Nicole really screw the pooch by thinking it's a good idea to sleep in their bed whilst their guests are. Sure enough, it gets them caught.
