Recap / The 7 DS 1 E 11 A Bathtub Bashful

Go To

When singer Jenny Jollywood comes down with a frog in her throat before the Jollypalooza concert, Queen Delightful discovers that Bashful is a good singer, and wants him to sing at the event. Bashful reveals to the other 7D that he is only able to sing well in the shower because of his shyness. While Lord Starchbottom scrambles to put together opening acts to stall for time, the 7D come up with a way to enable Bashful to get over his stage fright.

The episode has the following tropes:

  • Alliterative Title: Bathtub Bashful
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Bashful.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Bashful states that he can't sing outside the shower. But when he gained the confidence to step out of the shower curtain, he really can sing.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Grumpy and Happy break the news to Bashful:
Grumpy (to Happy): Let's break this to him nice and gentle-like, okay?
Happy (to Grumpy): Sure thing. (to Bashful) Hey, Bashful... You get to sing at Jollypalooza tonight!
  • Brick Joke:
    • When Doc thought that Queen Delightful was the delivery man due to wearing a blindfolded hat, Queen Delightful dubs herself as said delivery man. She later does this to give flowers to Bashful.
    • Grumpy and Lord Starchbottom do the jig to stall for time. And then later on at the end of the episode, Grumpy does the jig again (along with the rest of the 7D).
  • Chekhov's Gag/Chekhov's Gun: The bathtub Bashful sings in whenever he showers is the one thing needed so that he can sing great and to make it feel like he's not in front of a crowd.
  • Chick Magnet:
    • After singing on stage, Bashful apparently got the attention of a lot of ladies while signing autographs.
    • Sir Yips-a-Lot gains the attention of three poodles after his performance.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • After Happy tells Bashful that he will be singing at the Jollypalooza concert:
Bashful (terrified): S-s-sing? On stage? In front of... PEOPLE?!
    Happy: How cool is that?!
    • When Bashful runs out the door after hearing that he's going to be singing in the concert, Sleepy thought he couldn't wait to get there until Doc corrects him.
  • Continuity Nod: This is the second time that Bashful is seen bareheaded.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Doc tells Bashful to trust him, the latter asks if he knows what he's doing this time which leads to a montage of Doc letting Bashful down numerous times.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When Doc, Happy and Sneezy were looking for Bashful on the balcony, there's a windsock on that looks similar to Bashful's hat.
  • Foreshadowing: During his song "Queen of Hearts", Bashful sings the lines "If you need a knight baby, I'm the one to dub". In the season 2 premiere, he is dubbed as a knight.
  • Hard Head: Starchy hits his head multiple times in the 7D's cottage without getting a concussion.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: At some time in the montage, Bashful makes himself look like a windsock to fool the others.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Starchy states that he's calm and that nothing ruffles his feathers. Cue the Cutaway Gag of him freaking out.
  • Leitmotif: An Instrumental version of "Baby I dig You" is played when Doc tells Bashful to trust him.
  • Literal Metaphor: Jenny comes down with a literal frog in her throat. Doubles as a Visual Pun.
  • Luminescent Blush: Grumpy blushes when Queen Delightful said she liked his performance.
  • Modesty Towel: Bashful wears one when he's in the shower.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Bashful is briefly seen naked while dashing down the stairs.
  • Noodle Incident: There were numerous times where Doc let Bashful down ranging from scaring him with a basket full of kittens, hypnotizing Bashful causing him to pass out and falling while Doc is practicing semaphore.
  • Not Actually the Ultimate Question:
Starchy: Your Majesty, tell them why we're here.
Delightful: Why are we here? Does anyone really know? I mean, what's the meaning of life?
  • Overly Long Gag: After Queen Delightful states that Bashful should substitute for the ill singer at the Jollypalooza the 6D laugh for the entire day.
  • Performance Anxiety: Subverted. After hearing that he'll be singing at the Jollypalooza, Bashful flips out and runs off. But after hearing that the Queen was counting on him he performs on stage behind a shower curtain.
  • Rule of Three:
    • The 6D look for Bashful in three locations to no avail.
    • Three Noodle Incidents were shown of Bashful being let down by Doc.
    • Sneezy tells Grumpy that he'll have to wait and see three times.
  • Running Gag: Starchbottom hitting his head on the low ceiling of the 7D cottage.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Bashful runs off when he hears that he'll be performing at the concert. He even says a variation of this trope.
  • Shaking the Rump: Bashful does this when he was singing his second song "Queen of Hearts".
  • Vaudeville Hook: Sneezy gets Grumpy and Starchy off the stage with said hook.
  • Wild Take: Bashful does this after hearing that he'll be performing at the Jollypalooza.
