Go To

Airdate: Monday, September 26, 2005

Sender: marc baroni AZ

(The Lappy is seen sitting in the dark, Gavin the cockroach crawling across the screen. The lights suddenly switch on, causing Gavin to crawl away, Strong Bad comes in)
Strong Bad: (singing) A little bit of email. Some you-and-me-mail!

"Macaroni from A to Z" ("Ooh, alphabet macaroni!") wants to ask what happened to "the get up noise" that would play whenever Strong Bad got off his stool. According to Strong Bad, the original Geddup Noise "split some time ago" and was replaced by "his cousin, Chairscoot". It seems the Geddup Noise started getting big overseas "somewheres right around email 84" and quickly became a household name, with appearances on radio (with the AM Crude Crew) and television (on The Show) and an "indie-tronic remix" by The Cheat. His growing fame also lead to people doing bad impressions of him, a host of knock-offs such as "The Standing Up Noise", and a discontented fan base.

Strong Bad: So after that, Geddy bought a house in the Coches and now he just snowboards all day. He still pops up here and there in the odd, or sometimes very odd celebrity endorsement.
(Cut to a commercial for Hamburger Shampoo: "Like a backyard BBQ... on your hair!", the Geddup Noise plays)
Announcer: Geddup Noise approved!
Strong Sad: (watching TV) Frickin' sell-out!

The email ends with the reveal that Chairscoot has at least one overzealous follower himself in Homestar Runner, hoping to score an autograph from the sound.

Homestar: He's my generation's Geddup Noise! Could you make it out to "Lou Dobbs"?
Strong Bad: That's it, I'm out of here. (gets up and walks away, Chairscoot plays)
Homestar: Ah! There it is! It's positively dreamy! Ohhh... (faints)
(The Paper comes down.)

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: The announcer on The Show calls Homestar "Kevin".
  • Bad Impressionists: Coach Z.
(In an impression of the Geddup Noise) Way-o! Wayy-o!
Bubs: (not amused) Way-o, way-o? I'll be in the basement.
(descends into his concession stand basement by elevator)
  • Captain Ersatz: Geddup Noise's success leads to knock-offs like the King of Town's "The Standing Up Noise" and even Strong Bad's "Git Outcha Seat Sound", which comes with another knock-off of The Cheat ("The Teach") played by Strong Mad.
  • Celebrity Endorsement: A hamburger shampoo is endorsed by the Geddup Noise.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Follow the Leader: The "Geddup Noise", the noise Strong Bad's stool makes when he gets out of it, is apparently a huge hit, and a lot of furniture shifting type sound effect shows try to cash in on the wagon. invoked
  • Hipster: Strong Sad, who calls the Geddup Noise a "frickin' sell-out".
  • Home Game: The Geddup Noise appears on "The Show", where he gets "a year's supply of our home game" as a consolation prize.
  • Implausible Deniability: After Strong Bad's "Git Outcha Seat Sound" (with Strong Mad as "The Teach") appears, he tries to brush it off by stammering out "That was just not, uh, anything..."
  • Invisible Celebrity Guest: Geddup Noise does a few appearances on TV, but since it's just a noise, it doesn't really have a form to speak of.
  • It's Popular, Now It Sucks!: invoked Strong Sad doesn't react well to the Geddup Noise's growing popularity.
Strong Sad: Oh man, the Geddup Noise used to be cool.
  • Loony Fan: Homestar is a huge fan of Chairscoot, who he regards as "my generation's Geddup Noise!" He even faints dramatically on hearing it.
  • The Other Darrin: invoked Chairscoot was brought in to replace the Geddup Noise after the latter became popular and left Strong Bad's email show.
  • Sell-Out: The Geddup Noise shills for radio, TV, and commercials, which Strong Sad does not appreciate.
  • Shout-Out: Strong Sad wears a Geddup Noise-specific variant on the iconic "This is not a Fugazi T-shirt" t-shirt. Later he wears a "Corporate The Geddup Noise Still Sucks" shirt, based off of Kurt Cobain's "Corporate Magazines Still Suck" shirt from a Rolling Stone cover.
  • Squee: Homestar's reaction to "Chairscoot".
Homestar: [little hearts flutter from Homestar, as he swoons dreamily] Ah! There it is! It's positively dreamy! [faints]
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Coach Z's bad impression of the Geddup Noise comes out as "Way-o! Way-o!" Then the Geddup Noise appears on The Show, where he gets quizzed by Homestar and answers incorrectly. The correct answer is "Way-o, way-o."
  • Voice Clip Song: The Cheat does an "indie-tronic remix" of the Geddup Noise.

The Geddup Noooise...
