Dan finds out Rebecca's ex-husband is in town, and he's afraid Rebecca might go back to her. Not only that, but Bobbi Bernstein returns to help out with the show's March Madness coverage, and it turns out she might not be as crazy as he thought. Casey is still pissed off at Dana for handing the show off to Sally, and starts snapping at her over the smallest things.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Brick Joke: At the end of the episode, when Casey breaks the news to Dan about Isaac, the song by Three Dog Night plays.
  • Buffy Speak: "What are you, nuts? Huh? Are you just some nutty-nut girl who's nuts?"
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": When Rebecca asks a question and Dan says no, she kisses him, after which he admits the answer was yes. She does this a couple of times.
  • Call-Back: When Dana gets angry about Casey, she brings up his divorce.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Subverted in this episode; it turns out, contrary to what Dan insists, he did sleep with Bobbi in Spain, and never called her afterwards.
  • Freudian Slip:
Bobbi: That's what Virginia's been doing all season, Dan, that's what Georgia Tech's gonna see all night long.
    Dan: And how's Rebecca's ankle?
    Bobbi: I'm sorry?
    Dan: Rick. O'Brien. How's Rick O'Brien's ankle?
  • Hypocritical Humor: Lampshaded:
Dan: My girlfriend's ex-husband was in her office on a Saturday, and I'm fine.
    Casey: Good.
Dan: And I'm not saying "I'm fine" in that dramatic way that's obviously meant to indicate that I'm not fine. That's not what I meant when I said "I'm fine".
  • Jerkass: Casey referring to the staff in the control room as "the help" when he wants to argue with Dana in private.
  • Oh, Crap!: Dan when he realizes he did sleep with Bobbi and forget to call her. Also, everyone's reaction when Casey breaks the news that Isaac had a stroke.
  • Shaped Like Itself:
Dan: There's a difference between divorced and separated. One is divorced and the other is separated.
  • Shout-Out: "Lions and Tigers and Bearcats, oh my!"
  • Spit Take: Ultimately averted, but Dan comes close to spitting out his water when he hears Bobbi Bernstein is coming back.
  • Titled After the Song / Waxing Lyrical: The episode title comes from the song by Three Dog Night. When he was younger, Dan thought the song, and particularly the opening line ("Eli's coming, hide your heart, girl") was a way of foreshadowing the fact something bad was coming. Casey points out the song is about an inveterate womanizer, and Dan admits he knows that now.
  • Wham Line: "Isaac's at Columbia Presbyterian. He's had a stroke."
