A spore storm traps the Horde trainees in the Woods and traps Adora in the Crystal Castle, where a damaged Light Hope is forced to reboot herself.

Tropes

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Light Hope isn't as serious while rebooting and shows a far more playful side.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Lonnie, Kyle and Rogelio have always had a turbulent relationship with each other, somewhere between Vitriolic Best Friends and genuine disdain for one another and, after Kyle insists they are friends, Lonnie tells them that they aren't. However when Kyle gets caught in the spore storm after going outside to fix the transport the other two risk their lives to save him and the three reaffirm their friendship for one another.
  • Bad Boss: When Catra calls the trio up she makes it clear that she doesn't particularly care that they are trapped in the spore storm and tells them to pick someone to go outside and fix the transport.
  • Blatant Lies: After losing his own game Kyle tries to brush it off and claim that he somehow got all the points and won.
  • Body Horror: After prolonged exposure to the spore storm, Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio are covered in chemical burns.
  • Bottle Episode: Two in one, with Adora and Light Hope trapped in the spire and Lonnie, Rogelio and Kyle trapped in the van.
  • Calvinball: Kyle is clearly making up the game he suggests playing as he goes, which makes it particularly impressive that he still manages to lose.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The armor plating that the squad were send out to steal for the Horde's upcoming mission is used by Lonnie and Rogelio to rescue Kyle from the spore storm.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Lonnie, Rogelio and Kyle, who get their own side plot and quite a bit of attention and development in this episode. Also for Light Hope, who has a much bigger role here than usual.
  • Double Consciousness: Kyle ends up confusing himself when he mistakes Catra making a cake for Adora out of his ration bars as happening in their world as oppose to the portal reality.
  • Epic Fail: "Kyle, did you just lose the game that you made up?"
  • Facepalm: After learning Kyle is happy to be stuck in the Woods, Rogelio facepalms in irritation.
  • Friendship Denial: After Kyle tells them that the three of them are like family to him, Lonnie bitterly tells him that nobody in the Horde is friends and that it's everybody for themselves. Fortunately, Lonnie proves herself wrong after Kyle leaves to fix the transport and her and Rogelio risk their lives to save him.
  • Gasp!: After snapping at Light Hope and calling her "useless", Adora gasps at what she said in horror.
  • Happier Home Movie: Light Hope finds a recording of Mara bringing flowers to her.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: The only episode in four seasons where Lonnie, Kyle and Rogelio are more than bit players.
  • Not the Intended Use: Light Hope chides Adora for trying to use her sword to pry the door open.
  • No, You: Kyle's response to Lonnie telling him, "Oh, knock it off, Kyle."? "You knock it off, Kyle."
  • Plot-Driven Breakdown: A storm of highly corrosive spores traps Adora with Light Hope, and Lonnie with Rogelio and Kyle.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: The Horde crew tries to decide who goes out to fix the transport using bot, shield, laser. Kyle gets stuck in a Logic Bomb when they beat each other in a circle. He then resorts to Calvinball.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: The amnesiac Light Hope is as Literal-Minded as ever, and asks Adora for a definition of sarcasm.
Adora: [exasperated] Oh, trust me, that information is never going to load for you.
  • Tempting Fate: As Kyle is telling the others how nice it is to have some time away from the Horde so they can get away from Catra yelling at them all the time Catra calls them up to yell at them for taking so long.
  • The Unreveal:
    • Light Hope is willing to answer all of Adora's questions, but is unable to because she hasn't loaded that information.
    • Played for Laughs with Rogelio who gives an impassioned speech to Lonnie and Kyle no doubt talking about the strength of their friendship ... in his usual unintelligible growls. Kyle and Lonnie just shrug at each other and go along with it.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Kyle, the resident Butt-Monkey for the Horde, finally gets to stand up for himself after Lonnie tells him they aren't friends and decides to brave the spore storm in order to fix the transport. The others are clearly shocked by this new side of him.
  • Twisting the Words: Clearly what Lonnie does for Rogelio at one point. When she appoints herself the leader, Rogelio shakes his head, makes a couple of indignant and protesting growls, and motions to himself instead. Not missing a beat, Lonnie tells Kyle: "See? Rogelio agrees!"
  • Wham Line: After Adora leaves, Light Hope watches the recording of Mara again.
Light Hope: This memory should have been purged per directive of the Heart of Etheria Project. Permanently delete.
