Tropes

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Catra spends most of her scenes with Double Trouble getting annoyed by their antics, or at the very least is focused on the mission at hand. When Double Trouble calls her later on and gives a dramatic re-enactment of how the Best Friends Squad reacted to the failed mission (in the most unflattering way possible) Catra actually laughs.
  • Apple of Discord: After realising that there is a crack in Adora and Glimmer's bond that can be exploited Catra instructs Double Trouble to make it worse to their delight.
  • Bait the Dog: Despite their friendliness with Catra, and saving her life, Double Trouble makes it clear that they are foremost interested in money even if they like Catra.
  • Battle Amongst the Flames: Glimmer and Catra's fight ends up doing a number on the Horde's hideout which eventually sets the whole place on fire.
  • Body-Count Competition: Netossa keeps bringing up the number of bots she's destroyed. Spinnerella gives her own total at the end of the episode.
  • Call to Agriculture: Shadow Weaver is spending her time tending a garden. A rather ugly garden. There is a practical reason to this, as the plants are magical which are key components for magical rituals. Except for the daisies.
Shadow Weaver: I find them cheerful.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: The first time the team comes across a pulse bot, just one destroys Netossa's shield and lays waste to everything around it for several yards. Later they come across a whole squad of them and despite several attacks none of them break Netossa's shield or the area around them.
  • The Corrupter: Shadow Weaver begins working on doing this to Glimmer, getting Glimmer to adopt more ruthless tactics like using her friends as a diversion.
  • Friendship Moment: Played With for Double Trouble and Catra. Double Trouble spends the episode calling up Catra, trying to make her laugh with their impressions, and even saves her life from the exploding base. However at the end after Catra sincerely thanks them for the save Double Trouble tells her they will continue to help her... for the right price. There is visible disappointment on Catra's face when she realises that, even if they do have a fondness for her, Double Trouble is a mercenary first and foremost.
  • Manipulative Bitch:
    • Shadow Weaver begins the process of not just earning Glimmer's trust, but also making Glimmer dependent on her and her magical abilities. And she continues the trend of splitting up the Best Friends Squad, the first seed of which she planted in Adora's mind at the start of the season.
    • Catra immediately sees signs of dissension between Adora and Glimmer based on Glimmer using Adora as a distraction, and the potential for a break between the two. She also conspires for Double Trouble to make the situation worse.
  • Not So Above It All: For most of the episode Spinnerella seems annoyed by Netossa's insistence to turn their bot destroying mission into a competition. After Netossa checks on her to make sure she is alright after getting caught up in a blast Spinnerella tells her that she beat her by one bot.
  • Offhand Backhand: When Glimmer brags about how many bots she destroyed, a pulse bot starts beeping behind her; she casually blasts it mid-sentence without turning around.
Glimmer: Should I start counting too? Because [blasts the bot] I got the rest.
  • Pet the Dog: Catra actually thanks Double Trouble for saving her life. Unfortunately for her, even though Double Trouble enjoys working with her, they are still out for money above all else.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: With a little prompting from Shadow Weaver, Glimmer decides that this is the sort of queen she will be.
  • Sadistic Choice: After seeing that she can't beat her in a one on one fight Catra activates a pulse bot strong enough to take out half the Whispering Woods and tells Glimmer she can either chase after her or take down the bot. Fortunately for Glimmer a falling piece of scaffolding falls on top of Catra before she can escape sparing her the choice. And fortunately for Catra Double Trouble soon arrives to save her before the cave collapses on top of her.
  • Shout-Out: Netossa and Spinnerella count bots they hit is similar to what Legolas and Gimli did in The Lord of the Rings.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While practicing with her powers, Glimmer shows new levels of both raw power and control. (Most of her light bursts had been little more than irritating to her enemies before, now she's blowing through walls with them.) This gets confirmed when she fights Catra one on one and quickly proves to be more than Catra can handle.
  • Traitor Shot: The audience sees Double Trouble's natural eyes to indicate that a character is an impostor.
