The Gallant Appearance of the Five Samurai (伊達姿五侍, Date Sugata Go Samurai) is the 1st episode for the season Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
Takeru Shiba, the 18th head of the Shiba Clan, must gather together his four retainers to become Shinkenger to face against the return of the Gedōshū and their leader Chimatsuri Dōkoku.

- Art Initiates Life: Takeru is able to bring a horse by writing the character for “horse” with his Shodo Phone.
- Animal Motifs: Every Shinkenger is represented by an animal. This is what their Humongous Mecha are based on.

- When we first see him, Shinken Red is able to defeat the Nanashi Company without them landing a single hit on him.
- Later on, Shinken Red goes on to completely embarrass Kagekamuro, with the latter being completely helpless against him.

- Flaming Sword: Using a Secret Disk, Shinken Red is able to light his sword ablaze.
- Foreshadowing: Ryūnosuke thinking Mako was his new Tono can be seen as this.
- Fuuma Shuriken: Shinken Yellow’s Secret Playback Katana Shinkenmaru can become the Land Slicer.
- Hammy Herald: Jii acts as this towards Takeru in the beginning, much to the latter’s annoyance.
