"The Silence is closing in. Quietly but surely. Is the world really going to disappear? What's that? Hooray now I don't have to go to school anymore? Are you serious? I mean that sounds great but this is no time to celebrate. Stop fooling around or else In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Goodness Eclipsed")

Mimete targets an American DJ hosting an event at the local planetarium. Setsuna fills in the other Guardians to explain Rei's recurring dream and the mysterious figure she sees. When Mimete's Daimon threatens the Guardians, Hotaru's strange powers manifest again, but this time the mark of Saturn appears on her forehead, confirming the fears of the Outer Guardians.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Apocalypse Maiden: Neptune and Pluto warn the Inners that Sailor Saturn's awakening will guarantee the absolute destruction of the world.
  • Calling Your Attacks: "A Wish Upon a Star", said by U-Choten every time she attacks.
  • Combination Attack: The Outer Trio combine their main attacks in order to destroy Sailor Saturn.
  • Digital Bikini: Cartoon Network made Cloverway go back and edit a bikini onto U-Chouten to hide that her breasts were only being covered with pasties.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode starts with Rei experiencing another apocalyptic vision. Only this time, she's confronted and killed by the instigator of the Silence.
  • Downer Ending: The Inners are informed of Hotaru's destiny as the Guardian of Death and Destruction. And before any Guardian can react, Hotaru is instantly teleported back into her family mansion while her evil father happily reports to his superior about Sailor Saturn being fit for the role of the Messiah of Silence.
  • The End of the World as We Know It: Near the episode's end, the Outer Guardians warn the inners that Sailor Saturn will bring about the end of the Earth and all who inhabit it.
  • Foreshadowing: After sending off Mimete for her last assignment, Professor Tomoe looks at a nearby globe with stars in it. In the end, it's revealed to be his method of speaking with his boss Pharoah 90.
  • Internal Reveal: The Inner Guardians learn the true name of their antagonists along with what the Silence is and how Rei has been having visions of them the entire time.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The episode's last scene features Professor Tomoe speaking with Pharoah 90, his superior who comes from beyond the stars.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Tuxedo Mask plunges his rose into U-Chouten's hat to stop her from attacking. Unfortunately, she just takes it off to reveal a mini star projector underneath that launches even more stars of death. Venus even lampshades on how Tuxedo Mask made things worse then before.
  • The Needs of the Many: Haruka proposes to her Outer group that they kill Sailor Saturn before she awakens to ensure the safety of the entire planet.
  • Oh, Crap!: Haruka and Setsuna share this reaction after Michiru points out that the Messiah of Silence in her visions was carrying a giant glaive.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. A girl from Mugen Academy calls out for Tomoe when they're walking out in public. To Hotaru's dismay, she was referring to another student with the same surname.
  • Seers: Using her Garnet Orb, Setsuna is able to show the Inner Guardians a future that is ravaged by the Silence.
  • Sinister Scythe: The Messiah of Silence is shown carrying a giant scythe. The Outer Guardians assume her to be Sailor Saturn who also carried the same instrument of death.
  • Shout-Out: In the Viz Dub, Tomoe sings some of the lyrics to the song Starman.
  • Star Power: U-Chouten is able to conjure black energy stars to attack her foes.
  • Stripperific: U-Chouten's outfit consists of a giant star covering her naked body while her breasts have red stars to cover them. The Cloverway dub had to give her some extra coverage to avoid the wrath of angry parents.
  • Taking the Bullet: Chibi-usa moves in to defend Hotaru from the Outer's Combination Attack. Though they're both saved thanks to Sailor Moon.
  • Tarot Motifs: The Death Card frequently appears in front of the Messiah of Silence and Sailor Saturn.
  • Wham Episode: Hotaru is revealed to be the modern reincarnation of Sailor Saturn, the Guardian of Death and Destruction. And what's worse is that the Death Busters know about this and still plan to make her their Messiah of Silence.
  • Wham Shot: At the peak of Hotaru's seizure, her body glows bright pink and the planetary symbol of Saturn appears on her forehead.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Inner Girls are horrified that the Outers want to save the world by killing Hotaru.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Mr. Harris the DJ throws his seat at Mimete when she asks for his autograph. Though it's justified since she summoned her U-Chouten to attack everyone.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto show zero hesitation in using their powers to kill Hotaru before she awakens as Sailor Saturn.
  • Wrong Assumption: While recounting Haruka's warning of staying away from Hotaru, Ami deduces that the reason is because the Death Busters think of her as easy prey because of her weak condition and plan to target her Pure Heart.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Usagi is disturbed when Chibi-usa refers to her as "mommy" when she comes in to ask for a favor.
