Wow! I never knew motocross racing was such a competitive and dangerous sport! Especially if you're competing against a bunch of Pros. But Haruka's a great driver so I'm sure she'll win the race. What? The enemy set a trap to take her out?! That's totally unforgivable! I am Sailor Moon! In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish them!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Friendly Foes")

Kaolinite takes an alternative approach in destroying the meddlesome Sailor Guardians during a motocross competition in the woods. She even resorts to exploiting the bad blood between Moon and Uranus by shackling them together. Now the Guardians must find some common ground to overcome their circumstances and save Sailor Neptune.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Uranus gives one to Moon after informing her about her mission to find the Talismans and stop the Silence. Moon is unable to give an answer.
Sailor Uranus: You think I want there to be casualities? But if you knew that had to happen to save the whole world... Tell me what would you do different?
  • After Action Patch Up: Sailor Moon tends to Uranus' shoulder wound while they're hiding out in a cave.
  • Badass in Distress: Sailor Neptune is bound to a tree by Taiyan.
  • Call-Back: Sailor Moon brings back Moon Tiara Action to knock out Kaolinite and free Neptune.
  • Chained Heat: Moon and Uranus end up shackled together for the second half of the episode with the latter having to swallow her pride to work alongside the former.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Subverted. Early in the episode, Usagi smells Haruka's cologne when the young woman holds onto her. In the second act, she smells a similar scent from Sailor Uranus after being hugged by her and comes close to connecting the dots before they're interrupted by Taiyan.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Kaolinite immediately picks up on Sailors Moon and Uranus being unable to communicate with each other and decides to exploit it to her advantage.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Haruka makes quick work of her motocross rivals who try to assault her in the woods.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Inner girls and Mamoru only appear during the motocross race and are absent for the rest of the episode.
  • The Determinator: Yamada has a racer's spirit as he's determined to train extra hard to win future races.
  • Did You Think I Can't Feel?: To counter Moon's accusations of being called heartless, Uranus openly tells her that she doesn't like the idea of sacrificing people for potential Talismans anymore then her. But she's going through with it because of a greater calamity that will bring everything to ruin.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Played With. When Yamada's bike transforms into a Daimon, Sailor Neptune casually replies that "she should have seen that coming". However, what she didn't count on was for Kaolinite and her Daimon, Taiyan, to ambush her.
  • Disney Death: Sailor Neptune is thrown off a cliff and into a lagoon presuming to have died. She turns out to be okay later on.
  • Doppleganger Attack: Befitting its existence, Taiyan can create a duplicate of herself to double team on the Sailor Guardians.
  • Dub Induced Plothole: In the Cloverway dub, Kaorinite refers to Neptune as Uranus' "cousin" while threatening her. Not once did the Outer Scouts ever refer to each other as cousins, so how did she know?
  • Everyone Has Standards: Mamoru and Yamada, the racer who came in second place, are openly disgusted with the sexism and poor sportsmanship displayed by the other racers.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Downplayed. After escaping their bonds and foiling Kaolinite's trap, Uranus admits that she has more respect for Sailor Moon. That said, she makes it clear that it still won't stop her from completing her mission or finding the Talismans.
  • Gut Feeling: Usagi picks up that something was weird with Haruka deciding to run off into the woods on her own. This would lead her to the confrontation between the Outers and Kaolinite.
  • Hostage Situation: Kaolinite threatens a tied up Neptune with a crystal knife if Uranus keeps resisting.
  • If I Dont Return: Sailor Uranus reveals that she and Neptune promised each other that they wouldn't let their emotions cloud their judgement in the event that one of them were to perish. That the survivor would stay strong and continue the mission.
  • Internal Reveal: Uranus warns Sailor Moon about the upcoming Silence and how the only way to prevent it is by finding the Talismans.
  • Lured into a Trap: Kaolinite targets a random person regardless of their potential as a Talisman holder in order to lure the Outer Guardians into a trap.
  • Mood Whiplash: After Sailor Moon confirms to have a need to care about others to Uranus, she sheepishly asks if she can scratch her back for her.
  • Ominous Multiple Screens: Professor Tomoe presents multiple screens to his assistant while discussing the Guardians and Tuxedo Mask.
  • Prehensile Hair: Kaolinite uses her long hair to subdue Neptune and toss her into the waterfall.
  • Something We Forgot: After the motocross competition is wrapped up, Mamoru and the girls head home. To their disappointment, Usagi wandered off to look at some plushies and missed the bus taking them.
  • Sore Loser: The losers without personalities resort to cornering Haruka with the intention of assaulting her. Later, they catch her via truck and try to ram into her and Usagi while they're riding her bike.
  • Spider-Sense: Kaolinite points out how the Outer Guardians have some ability to determine who their designated targets are which explains why they always show up when a Daimon attacks.
  • Straw Misogynist: Haruka's opponents show their sexism by cornering her at the end of the race declaring that women have no right to compete in motocross like them.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: Sailor Uranus has to abandon Neptune in order to save herself so she can continue the mission. Much to Sailor Moon's horror.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Kaolinite flees the scene after Uranus and Moon show off effective teamwork and destroy Tiyan.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The episode begins with Kaolinite reviewing video footage of the Sailor Guardians to come up with a strategy to be rid of them.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sailor Moon chastises Sailor Uranus for refusing to go out and rescue Neptune.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The little boys who were beaten by Haruka eagerly try to hunt her down to beat her up. Thankfully, she puts them in their places.
  • You Remind Me of X: Usagi thinks to herself that Haruka embracing her out of protection is similar to how Mamoru would hug her.
