Nurses are a unique kind. They have this insatiable need to care for others, which is both their greatest strength and fatal flaw.

“Sneezing, runny nose, stuffy head! The Sailor Guardians are under the weather! What? The Black Moon Clan is behind this flu epidemic?! They've made people sick with an unknown virus! If Hideyo Noguchi found out, he'd be furious! In the Name of Sailor Moon, Sailor V will punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "No Thanks, Nurse Venus!")

A sudden surge of sickness, courtesy of Esmeraude, begins to flow throughout Tokyo infecting everyone, even the Sailor Guardians. Unluckily for them, nurse Minako is on the scene ready to offer hospitality to her friends in need!

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Afraid of Needles: Chibi-usa was already pretty uneasy when a seeming doctor (really Esmeraude) offered her a free vaccination, but she complete flips out when held against her will.
  • Ash Face: Minako's face is covered with dust after Rei's radio blows up in her face.
  • Bag of Holding: Luna-P turns into a medical box to for Minako to use.
  • Battleaxe Nurse: Esmeraude's newest Droid Pharmakon disguises herself as a nurse and is helping infect the public with Dark Power-infused medicine.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Usagi and Chibi-usa form one over how they should take care of Minako at the end.
  • Determinator: After seeing how bad the flu is effecting everyone, Minako takes it on herself to save everyone with her nursing skills.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Esmeraude over the sole healthy child being the Rabbit.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: Minako trying to use Rei's radio led to comedic disaster. When Minako later tries to do similarly with Usagi's, Artemis screams this at her.
  • Epic Fail: Minako manages to blow up Rei's radio.
  • Failure Montage: Minako and Chibi-usa trying to take care of the Tsukino house results in unimaginable disasters with every chore they attempt to accomplish.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Rei's porridge is so salty that it causes her to perform Fire Soul through her mouth. The DiC dub calls the porridge "spicy".
  • Friendship Moment:
    • As mortifying as her caregiver skills are, Minako does genuinely care for her friends and only wanted to help however she can. Even when Usagi asks if she's only taking care of her because she's the Moon Princess, Minako assures her that it's not the reason and she's doing it because of Usagi's bright and loving personality.
    • During the fight, the other girls acknowledge that they certainly appreciated the sentiment behind Minako's attempted caregiving.
  • Get Out!: Having had enough of Minako's antics, Rei orders her to leave her home.
  • Giant Medical Syringe: The Medical Droid carries a giant syringe on her arm and can shoot multiple syringes at her enemies.
  • Heartbeat Soundtrack: Rei's heart starts to pound when she decides to have a spoonful of Minako's porridge.
  • Hospital Hottie: Minako dons this uniform when she attends to Usagi's health. Usagi herself would wear a similar uniform when taking care of Minako.
  • Irony: To Minako's lament, just as Esmeraude's Synthetic Plague plot is foiled, she ends up catching the real version of the flu and is left bedridden.
  • The Klutz: Minako ends up creating accidents in her friends' rooms whenever she becomes frantic and desperate to help.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In the end, Minako gets a taste of her own medicine as she ends up sick in bed and has to be attended by Usagi and Chibi-usa.
  • Lethal Chef: Minako openly hoping that her batch of porridge will be edible is enough to concern Rei.
  • Made of Explodium: Pressing on Rei's radio on too many times causes the machine to blow up on Minako's face. This would lead to the Rei's Rage Breaking Point.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • Usagi's Nightmare Sequence starts out as a rather romantic moment with Mamoru, but then giant floating head versions of her friends pop in to scold her for how inappropriate this all is.
    • The others congratulate Sailor Moon for Working Through the Cold to finish Pharmakon, only for Sailor Venus to point out she's still stuck to the wall and would like to get down now. Sailor Moon sheepishly remarks they forgot she was there.
  • Mythology Gag: Just like in the manga, a green woman from the Black Moon Clan creates an artificial virus that infects all of Tokyo, including the Sailor Guardians. Though unlike Petz who did this as part of her Kill and Replace mission, Esmeraude is driven to create a Dark Henge at a local hospital site.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Chibi-usa runs off on her own in the hospital and demands medicine from Esmeraude and her disguised droid. This in turn would lead Esmeraude to discovering her true identity as the Rabbit after scaring her with a booster shot.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Esmeraude's first reaction upon seeing Chibi-usa is to force her to take needle injection. This in turn would cause Chibi-usa to create her pillar of light from her screaming that would alert the Sailor Guardians and foil Esmeraude's latest plot.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Usagi's fever dream of her having a Christmas dinner with Mamoru is cut short by the appearance of her friends as giant floating heads who interfere with her date.
  • Noodle Incident: Minako mentions that one of her friends had a chipped tooth after eating her porridge.
  • Nurse with Good Intentions: Minako tries very hard to be this even though she makes things so much harder for everyone with her clumsy shenanigans.
  • Oh, Crap!: Usagi and Artemis react this way when Minako offers to make her world famous porridge for Usagi.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Usagi when asking Minako if the porridge she made tastes good. It's why Minako doesn't have the heart to tell her that it tastes awful.
  • Shout-Out: The DiC Dub adds a line that has Rini exclaim "Stop this crazy thing!" during the Failure Montage.
  • Sick Episode: The Sailor Guardians fall victim to the virus so Minako decides to become their nurse with Chibi-usa as her trusted sidekick.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Sailor Venus quickly agrees with Esmeraude's assumption of how she "used" her Guardian powers to track her Dark Henge site and her plot to infect all of Juuban with her Dark Power-infused virus.
  • Synthetic Plague: Esmeraude created her virus based on Dark Power. It proves to be so strong and incurable that the public has had to shut down various schools and shopping sites to reduce spreading the disease.
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • Artemis reacts this way after his partner convinces Usagi into letting her stay over.
    • The allusions to Minako being a Lethal Chef make Rei very nervous about the meal she's being served.
  • Trash of the Titans: Any room that Nurse Minako tries to sprucen up turns into complete disarray.
  • Unwanted Assistance:
    • Minako's heart is in the right place as she does want to help her friends through their sicknesses. But her making inedible food, creating messes without precaution and wreaking havoc makes her more of a nuisance then a savior.
    • Chibi-usa tries to do chores around the Tsukino house but ends up almost falling over the balcony while losing Ikuko's sheets.
  • Villain Opening Scene: Esmeraude is introduced monologuing to herself in public about her latest plan which involves the incurable new virus.
  • With Friends Like These...: In the DiC version:
Artemis: Poor Raye, try not to get too upset with the klutzoid queen, she means well.
Raye: Oh she does, does she? Well with friends like her, who needs Emerald?
  • Working Through the Cold: All the sick Guardians try to make it to the hospital to protect Chibi-usa after seeing her flash of light.
