“You know something that I just can't stand? Thunder and lightning, that's what! It's so loud and scary. Oh no! Now a Droid is using them as a weapon! Please make all that rumbling and flashing stop! I am Sailor Moon! In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DiC Episode: "Trouble Comes Thundering Down")

When a sudden thunderstorm appears courtesy of the future visitors, Chibi-usa tries to escape her fears using a startling method that unintentionally creates a gravitational phenomenon. In the meantime, Usagi convinces Mamoru to help her find the petite estranger who's still lost in the storm.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Big Storm Episode: Fuiraiki creates a huge thunderstorm over the Juuban District that leaves Chibi-usa taking shelter in her school while Usagi and Mamoru try to reach her.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The four Inner Guardians manage to meet each other while hiding in the rain and find shelter in a quaint little cafe.
  • Drums of War: Furaiki carries a large drum and uses it to create her storm along with electrical attacks.
  • Dub Induced Plothole: The DiC dub changed Chibiusa calling Sailor Pluto from Luna-P to Rini calling Luna. Presumably DiC believed that Rini was speaking to Luna originally as Sailor Pluto wouldn't not formally appear for a few more episodes.
  • Dub Name Change: The DiC episode has the Droid Fuiraiki renamed "Thunderclap".
  • Fear of Thunder:
    • Chibi-usa has a fear of thunderstorms. Rubeus is counting on this phobia so she can freak out and expose her whereabouts.
    • Usagi herself isn't too keen on lighting.
  • Gravity Screw: Due to Chibi-usa using her time key to go back home, the key undoes the gravity inside the building she and the main girls are in causing everything inside to float. Rei ends up floating into Mina’s skirt.
Raye: What a totally weird feeling.
    Mina: Um, do you mind?
  • Happy Flashback: Chibi-usa remembers a time when she was playing in the rain while her parents watched her.
  • Internal Reveal: Chibi-usa sees Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask in action for the first time.
  • It's All About Me: Still feeling miserable over the breakup, Usagi accuses Mamoru of caring more for Chibi-usa who's lost in the city while giving her the cold shoulder.
  • Love Martyr: Usagi proudly admits that she'll still love Mamoru no matter how many times he pushes her away.
  • Makeup Is Evil: Petz is introduced applying a new Death Black Number 2 semi-gloss lipstick.
  • Mysterious Protector: Chibi-usa contacts a stranger named "Puu" for her permission to travel back in time.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: After describing the color black as "the color sprinkled with taint," Berthier sincerely tells Petz her black lipstick looks wonderful on her.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: In the original Japanese version, Chibi-usa scolded her boy classmate Yoshita for crying saying that boys shouldn't cry. In the Viz dub, her line is changed to her saying that his dad will pick him up soon.
  • Shout-Out: The Sailor Moon video game that Shingo plays features a xenomorph as an enemy.
  • Skewed Priorities: When strange lights begin to cover the café, Ami is more concerned about the safety of her textbooks. Later, she would show fascination over the anti-gravity phenomenon without thinking about how to stop it.
  • Standard Snippet: In the DiC version, Rini sings her love song to Tuxedo Mask to the tune of the children's nursery song "This Old Man".
  • Tempting Fate: While walking through the rain to pick up Chibi-usa, Usagi hopes that she can get the little girl back home before more lightning strikes. God proves her wrong by making a flash of lightning appear.
  • There Are No Adults: What else can explain why there were no teachers or adults at the elementary school to watch over Chibi-usa during the storm?
  • The Unreveal: The girls get no answers from Chibi-usa when they confront her about where she came from or how her mother is in danger.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Petz decides to call it a day after her Droid is destroyed and would rather not take her chances in the zero gravity zone.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The episode begins with Rubeus informing the Spectre Sisters that the Rabbit hates thunderstorms. This would inspire the oldest sister, Petz, to summon a Droid to create the perfect storm to scare her into revealing her location.
  • Villains Out Shopping: When they're not hunting Chibi-usa or rewriting history, the Spectre Sisters spend their time applying makeup and criticizing (or supporting in Berthier's case) each other's fashion choices.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: When Minako points out that they're missing Usagi, Rei insists on forgetting about her just for today.
  • Weather Manipulation: Petz summons her Stormy Weather Droid, Furaiki, to create a thunderstorm to lure out Chibi-usa. Furaiki would also use wind and thunder attacks against the Guardians.

She certainly knows how to keep "My Tuxedo Mask" all to herself!
