Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers Mario Gets Into NFTs

Go To

Mario joins the dark side and becomes......an NFT bro 🤡🍝

Mario has developed an obsession with NFTs, which Funky Kong introduced him to. While this worries his friends, Bob offers to teach him how to turn people into an NFT, but he may have created a monster...

  • A Day in the Limelight: Tari plays a role as the only other survivor other than Bob to fight Mario in the finale.
  • The Atoner: Bob is fully aware he created a monster by teaching Mario how to capture people's souls with NFTs and is shown to regret it multiple times. At the end he and Tari team up to stop him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Bob saves Tari twice when Mario is going too far, the first time to escape, the second time to copy Mario's NFT to make an army.
  • Big "NO!": Mario when Bob begins copying Mario's monkey NFT, devaluing them and making an army.
  • Call-Back: The "side characters'" NFT pictures originated from earlier videos. Whimpu's came from WOTFI 2020, Rob's came from "I Can't Believe It's Not SMG4", and Belle's came from "Mario vs. YouTube".
  • Character Development: Bob is the one who defeats Mario and stops his NFT frenzy, even pulling a Big Damn Heroes to save Tari from becoming an NFT, a far cry from being a Dirty Coward. He also expresses regret and concern when he sees what Mario has wrought onto the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The video follows Mario at first as he learns about NFTs and eventually learns how to turn people into them. But after Mario starts to jump off the slippery slope, the episode begins to follow Tari and Bob as they try to stop him.
  • Driven to Suicide: Funky Kong jumps off a building when he finds out that scamming Mario with an NFT has led to him turning everyone into NFTs. Mario, however, had "better" plans for him.
  • Dumbass No More: During the climax, Bob realizes something very important: you don't need to pay money to get NFTs, so he copies them to defeat Mario.
Bob: "I just realized that NFT's are a goddamn stupid idea! Who pays a billion dollars for JPEGS?"
  • Everyone Has Standards: Bob, of all people, is horrified when Mario begins turning everyone into NFT's.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The Spinning Paper paragraphs has the first one copypasted from Angry Joe's wiki article, the second on how to create cocoa, the third basically saying "he sell air lmao", and the final one is copypasted from Space Jam: A New Legacy's Wikipedia article.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: What started out as a simple NFT scam got Mario so obsessed with NFTs that he'll turn everyone on the planet into them, including his "friends."
  • Gotta Catch Them All: After discovering that you can convert people into NFTs, Mario attempts to turn everyone into one.
  • HA HA HA—No: SMG4 when Luigi asked him if he would do NFTs.
  • The Hero: Bob and Tari form an alliance and to stop Mario and save the day at the end.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: SMG4 punishes Mario by using the same NFT people capturing trick on him.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: Take a wild guess at who attempts this.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Funky Kong is Driven to Suicide when he sees the horrible consequences of introducing Mario to NFTs. Likewise, Bob is horrified to see that Mario is going overboard thanks to his teachings, culminating in him rescuing Tari and defeating Mario once and for all.
  • One-Winged Angel: Peach's reaction to Mario selling her castle just to buy one NFT.
  • Take That!:
    • To the NFTs, obviously. None of Mario's friends but Bob (initially) are supportive of Mario's new obsession with NFTs. It culminates to Bob realizing that NFTs are stupid because you can just get them for free by image capturing them.
    • Among the buyers of Mario's NFTs is a person who looks similar to Mark Zuckerberg, who later gets transformed into an NFT.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object: Matt (Mario's summon) vs. Exodia (Tari's) proves to be this. So the two Physical Gods just give up, become friends, and fly away.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: It all started when Funky Kong lied to Mario that NFTs will make him cool so that he could scam him. Mario ends up holding onto this misconception and eventually starts capturing people's souls to make NFTs. Funky Kong knows that this is all of his fault and attempts to commit suicide.
  • Villain Protagonist: One of the few times where Mario is both the main villain and protagonist, converting people, including his own friends, into NFTs.

SMG4 NFTs?

When Luigi asks SMG4 if he would ever do NFTs, SMG4 responds with the trope name damn-near verbatim.
