The five remaining teams travel to Russia. There, they'll have to ice sail to the Kola Borehole, where they must collect a ball seven miles beneath the Earth's crust. Devin continues his attempts to tell Carrie he loves her, while the Axis of Evil attempts to decide on a team to pick off.

Tropes

  • Aborted Declaration of Love: Devin attempts to tell Carrie he loves her, but ends up telling her he loves unibrows instead. The unibrowed taxi driver takes it well.
  • Artistic License – Biology: If Kitty really was 7 miles down the borehole for that length of time, she would at least have felt a little ill from doing so.
  • Artistic License – Geography: Two of them:
    • Firstly, Siberia is a general area of Russia, not a province like Don said.
    • Secondly, The Kola Borehole isn't located in the area defined as Siberia, but on the Kola Peninsula, hence why it's called the Kola Borehole.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Despite being slapped with a penalty on account of smashing Kitty's helmet light, Jacques and Josee still come in first place.
  • Batman Gambit: Instead of shouting back, Ryan spends the episode calmly agreeing with Stephanie's insults and criticisms, which makes her confused and too flustered to keep it up. He says he learned this trick from his father.
  • Character Development: Twofold for the Police Cadets:
    • After accidentally breaking Sanders' arm, MacArthur decides to be less impulsive and start listening to her partner more often.
    • After her arm is broken, Sanders decides she's tired of being pushed around by MacArthur, and only agrees to continue on with the race if she becomes the leader of their team.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: The Ice Dancers are given a thirty-minute penalty for not taking a ball from the bottom of the mine. Despite this, they still come in first.
  • Claustrophobia: Josee's fear of confined spaces comes into play when she's forced to dive into the dark cavern. She resorts to stealing Kitty's ball despite knowing she's likely to receive a penalty.
  • Description Cut: Certain the other teams will target them for elimination, Emma wants to try to shift that focus to the Best Friends instead. When Kitty frets about betraying their alliance, Emma guarantees that Devin and Carrie are plotting to do the same. We then see the two sitting quietly, as Devin desperately tries to work up the nerve to tell Carrie how he feels about her.
  • Exposed to the Elements: One of the legs of the race is to pilot an ice yacht to the Kola Borehole, located in the Arctic Circle, while wearing their swimsuits.
  • Husky Russkie: A few are seen as background characters.
  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: When Kitty asks Emma if there will be air at the bottom of the borehole, Emma replies that she studies law, not science.
  • Light Is Good: One of the Siberian Yetis in the episode helps the Daters/Haters get a push their ice sail when their sail breaks.
  • Modesty Towel: Don wears one at a Russian steam bath, where the Chill Zone is located.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: MacArthur quickly realises how dangerous her impulsive nature truly is after she accidentally breaks Sanders' arm.
  • Odd Friendship: Once again, Carrie and Ryan.
  • Palette Swap: The Yetis look the same as Sasquatchanakwa from the main series but white.
  • Pet the Dog: During the recap, Don admits he's going to miss the Surfer Dudes and would've preferred eliminating a team he doesn't like instead.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The Axis of Evil.
Sanders: This alliance is not a friendship.
MacArthur: Got that right. It's just an agreement to work with people we hate.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode gets its title from a song by The Bee Gees on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
  • Tongue on the Flagpole: MacArthur gets her tongue stuck to a trash can, thanks to Josee.
  • Troll: Jacques mimics the Russian announcer's accent in order to annoy Josee. He gets a punch to the nose in return.
