Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 41 The Old Man The Seat And The Shop Girls

Go To

The Loud Siblings have to make Leni into an assertive person after having her bought shop items taken away out of innocuous generosity, so, against Rick's orders, they, without Lincoln's involvement, have space intern Glootie make an app that'll solve the Leni problem. Meanwhile, Lisa follows Rick after he goes off to his personal domain to check on whoever interloper pooped on his toilet.

Rick and Morty episode: "The Old Man and the Seat"

The Loud House episode: "Shop Girl"

  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • Lisa follows Rick throughout the chapter, curious about what he's up to, meaning her role in the original LH episode is altered.
    • Rather than being Too Dumb to Live like Jerry in canon, a jaded Luan has Glootie make the app that brainwashes Leni and all who use it, just to spite Rick. Lincoln doesn't take it too well at all.
    • The siblings don't have selfish reasons to make Leni more assertive unlike in canon, as their Character Development made sure it won't be the motivation. Lynn, the twins, Lucy and Luna's roles are mostly reduced in this rendition, with Lori, Leni, Luan, Lincoln and Lisa taking most of the focus.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Luan had Glootie create the app that brainwashes everyone, including Leni, despite being visually warned not to, just to spite Rick, much to Lincoln's annoyance. He and Luan then have to stop the app.
  • Anguished Outburst: While chasing after Glootie, Luan, dressed in her Full House costume, smashes anything she can get the mallet on. Lincoln notes that Luan was actually venting her frustration and anger with Rick.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: Rick attends Tony's funeral, just like in canon.
  • Anti-Role Model: When Lisa eggs on Rick about her understanding of his situation, Rick reminds Lisa on why she would not act like a Rick.
  • Armour Piercing Response: When Lincoln insists that the app incident wasn't Rick's fault, Luan points out that Rick was too lazy to specifically warn the siblings in detail. This is the very reason Jerry fell to create the app in canon.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Just like in canon, Rick's booby trap meant for Tony was actually a group of Holographic Ricks mocking him. Since Tony is dead and Rick realizes who he really is, he tries the rigged toilet on himself, crowning himself the "king of shit" as self-punishment. This is made more sad by the fact that Lisa Loud is watching it, which also gave her the same realization.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Lori after hearing the brainwashed Leni that she'll make Bobby her boyfriend.
    • Luan after suddenly seeing Benny at her doorstep.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The chapter still would've received the same Downer Ending from the original R&M episode if it weren't for the additional scene that Leni was saved from the app and decides to go to the mall with Chaz.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Glootie's app, like in canon, causes everyone to fall in love with random people. For instance, a brainwashed Leni suddenly wants Bobby to be her boyfriend, to Lori's shock, naturally.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Luan made Glootie make the brainwashing app just to spite Rick, despite Glootie specifically having a sign saying otherwise. Lincoln then calls her out for it.
  • Domain Holder: Rick rules over a lush, alien planet which is essentially a gigantic restroom for him to take a dump. It also is a place where he has total control of literally everything without the Loud siblings making him their glorified slave or anyone trying to object to his attitude.
Rick: You don't get it Lisa. It's my toilet. This whole planet is my special place. It's a place where I'm in complete control of everything. See, I don't often get that at home because your siblings are constantly blackmailing me.
  • Heel Realization: Having witnessed her grandfather's severe depression while undergoing a humiliating derision from his holographic projections sitting on the toilet, Lisa comes to realize, EXACTLY WHY Rick doesn't want her to be like him; Rick has suffered a devestating loss that led him to be the nihilist Control Freak Jerkass Mad Scientist that he is now.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Lincoln and Luan subject Glootie into a torture via an animal cage containing Luan's pets, to force information on how to stop the app from him.
  • Jerkass Ball: Luan has Glootie create the app in direct defiance of Rick's warnings, just to spite him. This causes everyone using it to get brainwashed, forcing her and Lincoln to fix it themselves.
  • Life Will Kill You: Again, downplayed like in canon. Tony lives life to the fullest but gets cut short.
  • Mythology Gag: The brainwashed Leni wants to go to Scotland to date someone. This is alluding to The Loud House Movie, where the Loud Family goes to Scotland.
  • Nerves of Steel: Tony towards Rick.
  • Pet the Dog: Like in canon, Rick gives some money to Tony's loved ones in his funeral.
  • Serious Business: Just like in canon, Rick goes to every known length imaginable to find out the culprit that shat on his toilet. Lisa then points the ridiculousness of it out to Rick.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: The same one like in canon. The holographic Ricks meant for mocking Tony are instead mocking Rick, as a fitting form of punishment for his character while Lisa looks on at her grandpa in pity and self-reflection. "King of Shit" he is indeed.
  • Toilet Humor: The Rick subplot's premise is mostly about the trope in play, just like in canon, including the Ass Shove Rick subjects Tony in.
  • Wham Shot: Benny shows up at Luan's doorstep. This surprises her.
