Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 40 Racing Hearts

Go To

Everyone in Royal Woods participates in the annual Astonishing Quest with new sets of rules, and with newcomers inbound to join the spectacle, Lynn, Margo and new partner Polly compete as they go for the prized trophy for the victor. Unfortunately, Lincoln and Clyde happened to bring along a certain mad scientist grandfather with them.

Rick and Morty episode: N/A

Loud House episode/s: Racing Hearts, Hero Today, Gone Tomorrow

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: The chapter burrows the whole plot of the original "Racing Hearts" in addition to elements of "Hero Today, Gone Tomorrow" with Margo's involvement.
  • Adaptational Context Change / Adaptation Deviation:
    • As a result of additional more participants entering the Astonishing Quest, many plot points have been expanded or modified, and unlike the original episode, Luna and Sam's relationship serves as just one of many subplots, with most of the focus being shared with Lincoln and Lynn's teams and some more characters.
    • Lynn is also allowed to participate in this year's Astonishing Quest with Margo and newcomer Polly, whereas in the original, she was banned from joining due to her brash, obnoxious behavior. This change meant that Lynn doesn't have to disguise herself as Helen to get the trophy. Of course, since Rick Sanchez happens to be a participant, it just won't be easy for her.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Quite a lot due to the addition of Rick and the Rick and Morty cast in addition to Lincoln, Clyde, Ronnie Anne, Lola and Lana, and so much from Royal Woods participating in the Astonishing Quest. Also, there are new challenges to the game, such as a final chess game and a race inside Ronnie Anne's body around Anatomy Park.
  • Adaptational Karma: In the original episode, Lynn and Scoots get away with stealing the trophy because of the former getting banned by the mayor for obvious reasons. Here, Scoots and her team lose the Quest and Lynn in the end ultimately lost the game of chess to none other than her grandfather, Rick, thus earning himself, Lincoln and Clyde their first trophy. Lynn does not take losing, especially to Rick Sanchez of all people, so very lightly at all.
  • Adaptational Late Appearance: Polly Pain makes her debut in this story, even though she first appeared as a minor character in the Season 1 episode "Dance Dance Resolution".
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Polly acts friendly towards Rusty and the two seem to bond with each other.
  • Always Someone Better: For all her superior talents and competitiveness in sports, Rick Sanchez often tramples over granddaughter jock Lynn over the course of the Astonishing Quest, from laser tag to a game of chess, where Rick's nigh intelligence shines through, all this, much to Lynn's increasing annoyance, which further strains her relationship with Rick.
Rick: "Lynn, I've been dealing with laser guns since before you were born. Trust me, you're not beating me in that department."
  • Bittersweet Ending: Lincoln ultimately wins his first trophy, Sam and Luna make up during the game, and other characters had fun in the Quest. Unfortunately, a bitter and sore Lynn breaks up with a fed up Margo and destroys their friendship after accusing her of bad luck just for taking a number two while Lynn was off. Lynn then storms off, completely alienated from her friends.
  • Break the Haughty: As if coming home, being forced to swallow her pride and lie to her family isn't enough, Lynn ultimately loses the Royal Woods Astonishing Quest to grandpa Rick Sanchez in a game of chess. This causes her to snap at Margo and Polly and accusing them of bad luck, and their friendship falls apart.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The whole reason why Lynn ultimately lost the Royal Woods Astonishing Quest to Rick in a game of chess. She was so occupied with taking out Rick's vital chess piece that she didn't notice Rick lunging towards her end of the board, whose king is left vulnerable and wide open, resulting in a checkmate in Rick's favor.
  • Jerk Jock: Lynn. This later gets Deconstructed slowly and painfully as Rick keeps trumping over her every encounter they go with one another, and Lynn slowly goes down a dark path. This ultimately destroys her friendship with Margo.
  • Kick the Dog: To pay back Zeep Xanflorp for screwing over him, Rick then screws back by telling innocent kid Darcy about Anatomy Park's true nature. Lisa and Zeep lose as a result. Rick then laughs at Zeep's expense, much to his chagrin.
  • Mundane Utility: After winning the trophy, Rick sees no real worth with it, although he could use the thing as a paperweight.
  • Precision F-Strike: Margo calls Lynn a "bitch" as part of her "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Already fed up with Lynn's irrational and superstitious bullshit, Margo snaps and tears her former best friend a big one for that exact same behavior she exhibits, but stubborn ol' Lynn keeps staying the way she is. Their friendship falls apart.
Margo: "You know what? I'm done too. And consider me out of all the teams too because I do not want to hang around a self-centred, egotistical little bitch like you any longer!"
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Fed up with Lynn's irrational behavior, Polly storms off, angry and hurt.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Zeep and Rick trade insults and screw over each other all the course of the Quest. This was revealed to be an act to throw off Lynn from suspicion as revealed in "No Such Thing As Luck".
  • Was It Really Worth It?: Although he won his first trophy and really earned it, in the end, upon seeing an angry and sour Lynn storming off after losing to their grandfather, Lincoln begins to question whether winning said trophy feels anything meaningful, as he had won it at his sister's expense.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Margo calls out Lynn for her aberrant and immature way of taking her loss.
