Recap / Re Boot S 3 E 14 Showdown

Go To

The Mainframers storm the Principle Office. If they fail, Megabyte will escape Mainframe into the Net. Meanwhile, Bob has to deal with the unstable Hexadecimal.

This episode has examples of

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Megabyte goaded Matrix into fighting man to man without weapons. It got him punched across the room and a dented chest.
  • Big Damn Heroes: AndrAIa tossing Matrix her trident.
  • Big "NO!": Megabyte while getting pulled into the Web.
  • Big "YES!": Megabyte upon getting the completed portal codes.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
Megabyte: Now, to convert the tear and escape this infernal system.
    Matrix: I don't think so.
  • By The Code, What Have I Done?: Captain Capacitor asks this when he sends the Saucy Mare on autopilot and loaded with explosives to destroy Megabyte's air defenses. The explosion destroys the Mare and sends her sinking into the Energy Sea. AndrAIa comforts the captain by reminding him that his sacrifice gave the heroes a fighting chance. Captain Capacitor then swears that the Saucy Mare won't go down in vain.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: Bob returns after Megabyte is dealt with. Likewise, Ray shows up as well.
  • Downer Ending: Megabyte is defeated and exiled, but now the heroes have to stop Mainframe from crashing.
  • Expressive Mask: The result of Bob healing Hexadecimal's face.
  • Hypocrite: Megabyte ultimately resorts to his claws, despite chastising Matrix for drawing his gun earlier.
  • I'll Kill You!: After getting wailed on, Megabyte extends his claws to end this.
Matrix: I thought we agreed. No toys.
Megabyte: Still the pretender, aren't you, boy? Where's your sister to protect you now? Better yet, where's your firewall?! I shall enjoy this. [raises his claws]
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Matrix introduces Megabyte's gut to the business end of AndrAIa's trident.
  • It's Personal: Matrix faces Megabyte alone for this reason.
Matrix: You took away my life, destroyed my home, caused nothing but pain and suffering to everyone I held dear!
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Near the end of the fight, Megabyte presses his advantage by twice kicking a winded and wounded Matrix across the Principal Office's roof.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Megabyte banished Bob into the Web in the Season 2 finale. Just when he's about to escape into the Net, Mouse changes the portal's coordinates to the Web!
  • Little "No": Phong after the last of the portal code is extracted.
  • Not Worth Killing: Matrix says Megabyte just isn't worth it.
  • Punch Catch: Early in the fight, a straddling Matrix impotently wails on a supine Megabyte... before the virus casually catches his fist and squeezes.
  • Punched Across the Room: When Megabyte goads Matrix to "Put down that gun and fight like a real sprite", Matrix lands such a blow on the virus- with the added. bonus of putting a large dent in Mega-breath's abdomen to boot.
    • Megabyte later reciprocates three times in succession: first with an Offhand Backhand that sends Matrix flying, followed by two brutal kicks that send him sprawling to the edge of the Principal Office roof, unconscious.
  • Shout-Out: The destruction of the Saucy Mare and the reaction to it echo the destruction of the Enterprise in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!:
    • As the code is extracted:
Phong: You will never win, virus.
Megabyte: Really? And just who will stop me? Bob? Or Ms. Matrix's pathetic band of rebels?
    • Megabyte attempts to do this in response Matrix's speech about how Mainframe will always endure. It's an epic effort... until Mouse gives him one last double cross:
Megabyte, near an escape portal: No... you remember, boy: how I turned defeat into victory! How I left you with a dying system....
Mouse, observing from a distance: Oh, no you don't. One last double cross, sugar?
  • Super-Strength: Matrix and Megabyte each display this during their fight. When the virus proves he still has an edge in raw might, Matrix relies on sheer grit.
  • Underestimating Badassery: When he realizes that the musclebound bruiser gunning for him is none other than Enzo, Megabyte immediately stops taking him seriously- up until Matrix slugs him hard enough to dent his stomach.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Whereas Matrix has become a hardened warrior during his time in the Games, the scheming Megabyte gets by on raw strength.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Megabyte when it looks like Matrix will actually kill him.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Though Matrix isn't weak by most standards, he's still outmatched by Megabyte in raw strength. Fortunately, he knows how to compensate.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Credit to Matrix, who instantly pulls his Gun on Megabyte the moment he sees him. When the perennially shit-talking Megabyte goads him into disarming and "fighting like a real Sprite," Matrix complies... before putting Megabyte on his ass with a single punch.
