Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: The whole two-parter is focused primarily on Clare.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: Clare's Transformation Sequence begins with her putting on a diadem.
  • Badass in Distress: Udonna gets kidnapped by Koragg.
  • Barrier Warrior: Clare as the Gatekeeper can conjure magical forcefields.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as Koragg is about to defeat Clare, the Rangers come in to assist.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Necrolai gains these after Koragg empowers her with the Master's magic.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: During the Niella flashback, we see a man telling her to seal the gate behind him as he enters the Underworld. This will later turn out to be Leanbow.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends on the gate to the Underworld rising up from the ground, with the Rangers looking on in horror.
  • Dynamic Entry: Chip enters the battle (see Big Damn Heroes above) by shooting Koragg with his crossbow.
  • Generation Xerox: Inept Mage Clare is told by Udonna that her mother was just as incompetent as her at first.note
  • Legacy Character: Clare inherits the mantle of the Gatekeeper from her late mother Niella.
  • Oh, Crap!: Udonna's expression when the Rangers mention that the villains are looking for the Gatekeeper can only be described as this.
  • There Is Another: Spoken word-for-word by the Oracle, after Morticon points out that the Gatekeeper died sealing the gates to the Underworld years ago.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Clare is instantly a lot more competent when she becomes the Gatekeeper, bordering on Xenafication. She even gives Koragg a run for his money!
  • [Verb] This!: A rather odd one, even for Power Rangers.
Necrolai: Do you like my new powers?
Nick: Like this! Magi Staff! *attacks her*

Necrolai

She looks like a humanoid monster but otherwise fits the tradition; conversion by biting, transforms into a bat, etc.
