Recap / Phineas And Ferb Meatloaf Surprise

Go To

After Buford bursts the bounce house at the Danville Meatloaf Festival, Phineas and Ferb decide to build a bigger and better bounce house. At the same time, Dr. Doofenshmirtz plans to enter the Meatloaf Contest at the festival with his Great-Grandma Gretel's recipe; to even out the competition, he invents the Rotten-Inator, which causes anything to become rotten and putrid. Meanwhile, Candace and Stacy go to a rock and roll memorabilia auction to buy a rare Tiny Cowboy bobblehead.

Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch Silhouette: Perry sees what appears to be a silhouette of Doofenshmirtz outside his tent, but when he opens the tent, he finds a weird bird that resembles Doofenshmirtz's face. The real Doofenshmirtz is then able to catch him with a rope trap while he's distracted.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Didn't Think This Through: Doofenshmirtz places Perry in a box made out of biodegradable material, which seems fine until he accidentally shoots the box with the Rotten-Inator.
  • Dramatic Wind: Ferb turns on a wind machine to make Phineas' Rousing Speech more dramatic. This also leads to some Funny Background Events in which various things are blown away by the wind such as newspapers, tumbleweeds, wooden boards, machine parts, a pigeon (a semi-Running Gag to a bird almost always crashing into the boys' creations), and even a kitchen sink!
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: At the end of the episode, after Doof's meatloaf gets shot by the Rotten-Inator, he eats a bit of it, thinking it's not that bad. He ends up getting carried out of the event by paramedics.
  • Insubstantial Ingredients: The secret ingredient to Gretel's meatloaf recipe is hate.
Doofenshmirtz: Usually, it's love, but Great-Grandma Gretel had some issues.
  • In the Style of: The "Meatloaf" song is done in the style of Oasis, with an acoustic guitar riff similar to that of "Wonderwall", and Nigel singing with his hands behind his back like Liam Gallagher.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Doof notices that his inators tend to hit things that he never intends to hit.
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: At the end of Phineas' speech, when he says, "Where's Perry?".
  • Non-Indicative Name: Linda points out that the members of Tiny Cowboy aren't tiny and aren't even cowboys. Candace is not amused.
  • Rousing Speech: Phineas delivers one on the subject of bounce houses and how they can be improved.
Phineas: What if bounce houses were made for bigger kids?
    Buford: Hey!
Phineas: Slightly bigger kids. And what if they just happened to be totally amazing? I stand before you today and I hereby declare that...that, uh, little help, Ferb? (Ferb turns on a wind machine to make Phineas' speech more dramatic) That nobody has yet done justice to the bounce house concept, and that it is up to us to show the world what a bounce house can truly be. For if not us...then, who? If not now...when? And if not when, then...something else! Gentlemen, I know what we are going to do today! But first answer me this: Where's Perry? (the music and wind machine stop) No, seriously, where is he? I don't... I haven't seen him.
  • Shout-Out: The footage of Candace and Stacy dancing are done in the style of the Filmation dance sequences seen in such shows as The Archie Show.
  • Special Guest: Jamie Oliver, as himself, is the celebrity judge for the Meatloaf Contest. Davy Jones of The Monkees and Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits play the members of Tiny Cowboy.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Candace suffers yet another failed busting attempt, and also fails to win the auction for the Tiny Cowboy bobblehead, but she does end up meeting Tiny Cowboy at the Meatloaf Festival.
