Recap / Paradise PDS 04 E 06 The Butt Cut

Go To

Randall needs to find the butt cut of Cats to keep himself from dying on July 13th.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Bullet thinks being a dog is worse than being a human. After he takes a drug that turns him human, he finds that he can no longer do the things that he used to get away with as he's no longer a dog.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Stanley Hopson, the openly bisexual and very prolific horny old man, announced that he doesn't condone the homosexual lifestyle... while he's literally riding on the back of an oiled-up male stripper.
  • Call-Back:
    • A cutaway gag features Frank shitting on an art easel and calling it his painting, just like Dusty did last episode.
    • Dusty has Hollywood connections thanks to the time he got Disney to waste $14 million trying to reboot an old tv show.
  • Canines Gambling in a Card Game: Bullet and some other dogs pose for one of these pictures.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: Thester insults professional wrestling and Randy Savage smacks him upside the head with one of these.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Randall buys some horse-detecting glasses from Lovely Corp. (ultraviolet glasses that can help him see any invisible horses that may be in the room) As pointless of an invention as this sounds, it actually comes in handy later in the episode, when he and Dusty need to find a quick way of escaping the Nipple Temple. Randall puts on the glasses and finds an invisible horse that they ride out to safety.
  • Cutaway Gag: This episode has a couple. One of them is about Bullet working as a muse for Frank's scat art and the next one is about Mark Zuckerberg at the congressional hearings.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: The first pill that Bullet tests causes him to do this... as well as through his nose, ears, and ass.
  • Funny Background Event: As Fitz is showing off the old person mute button he bought from Lovely Corp to AFKAK, Hopson is being beat up by an alien dick which comes out of the glory wormhole he bought from Lovely Corp.
  • Hereditary Curse: It's revealed that the men of the Crawford family suffer from a "Crawford Curse", where they all die at the same exact age and on the exact same date, July 13th, at 50 years old. This is all because 200 years ago, Randall's great ancestor, Claudius Crawford, burned a witch at the stake and she bestowed this curse onto him and his family.
  • Humanity Ensues: One of the drugs that Bullet takes turns him into a human being.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Bullet tells everybody that his being a dog doesn't make him any different than his human counterparts and then immediately starts yelling and screaming in anger at a vacuum cleaner when Dusty turns it on.
Bullet: There's not even like a single difference between me and anyone else in this-FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, VACUUM CLEANER! SUCK MY DICK! I FUCKING HATE YOU!-room. Not a single thing different.
  • Indy Escape: In the Nipple Temple, Randall and Dusty set off a booby trap, which is an extremely obese Rebel Wilson, rolling after them like the boulder from Indiana Jones.
  • Kill It with Water: Randall attempted this on The Witch but it awkwardly failed.
    Randall: Ha ha! Melt, cunt!
    • This was also called back to, when Randall tried to kill Bullet with water.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Randall tells the humanized Bullet that he looks like the voice of Comedy Central, referencing to how he is voiced by Kyle Kinane, who also works as the voice for the channel's on-the-air announcements. Irritated with the reference, Bullet tells Randall to cut it out with that shit.
  • The Load: James Corden is this to Randall and Dusty on their Peruvian journey, being a loud-mouthed, annoying, fat, unfunny, idiot, whose only purpose is having a map tattooed on his belly. It doesn't take long for them to just kill him and slice his belly flesh off and just use that from then on.
  • MacGuffin: The Butt Cut of Cats, where all the cats have exposed buttholes.
  • Mexican Standoff: Randall, Dusty, and Hopson all get into one of these at the end of the episode, fighting over possession of the butt cut, despite all three of them wanting to do the same thing with it.
  • Mistaken for Gay: AFKAK makes an important announcement to the party dudes, which Randall assumes is him coming out as gay.
  • Overly Long Gag: James Corden sits in his chair, laughing his annoying laugh, repeatedly for what feels like a full minute.
  • Random Events Plot: The main plot follows Randall, discovering that because of a family curse that started 200 years ago, he's going to die at the end of the day, unless he can find a witch to reverse the curse. The witch tells him that she'll reverse the curse if he can find her an unreleased version of the movie Cats, where they all have exposed buttholes. Randall goes all the way down to Peru to find the butt cut in a nipple-shaped Temple of Doom, where he rides an invisible horse to avoid getting crushed to death by Rebel Wilson. In the end, he finds out that the butt cut of cats is being withheld by an evil dog, who wants to release the movie to the public too so that he can make the entire world hate cats, thereby ensuring that dogs become the superior race.
  • Shout-Out: Some of the pills that Bullet tests turn him into Muttley, Scooby-Doo, and Snoopy.
  • Spirit World: Charles Lovely contacts an otherworldly person on the ethereal plane.
  • Temple of Doom: Randall and Dusty travel to Peru and look through one of these that's shaped like a giant man's nipple. During their adventure, they encounter booby traps, swarms of tarantulas, and other cursed objects.
  • Your Head A-Splode: One of the pills that Bullet tests causes his head to explode like a balloon.
