Recap / PK 2 S 2 E 16 Soldier Of Fortune

Go To

One day, Duckburg's tranquility is disturbed when a giant spaceship appears, hovering over Ducklair Tower. Donald immediately recognize the ship as "Lady Elenthari", the ship belonging to the mercenary alien Neopard, and approaches the ship as PK. On board he finds out that Neopard is in a dire situation, stuck in a siege on a distant planetoid, so he sent Q'wyn to look for PK to bail him out of trouble. Once again, the Devilish Avenger is involved in space warfare, far from home.

The second volume of the Final Tetralogy.

This Issue contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Captain Alyonesse is much more action-prone and fit than Neopard.
  • Battle Couple: In the end, Neopard reveals that Alyonesse is the namesake of Lady Elenthari but also his fiancée.
  • Call-Back: The entire episode is one to the PKNA issue "The Mastiffs of the Universe".
  • Cat Girl: While the males of Neopard's race resemble burly humanoid felines, Alyonesse is much more human-looking with a cat's nose, ears and tail.
  • Death World: Neopard's home planet is famous for having a cold desert... another cold desert and two different fire deserts. It's so devoid of life and resources that all his inhabitants are either mercenaries, smugglers or merchants.
  • Distressed Dude: Neopard is left struck defending a planetoid against a superior enemy force commanded by another mercenary. Zigzagged when it turns out he was actually sent there to conquer the planetoid.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: In the finale, Doland tries to understand how to make one of the alien weapons (resembling a hybrid of dumbbell and morningstar) work. There's a huge explosion and the following day he's seen going to work heavily bandaged. Also earlier, as a Funny Background Event, Alyonesse tries to take a lightning-shooting item from a shocked PK.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Justified, Everett's quarters in the top of Ducklair Tower are so inaccessible he really did not noticed a giant alien ship hovering over it until Birgt broke the news.
  • Giant Space Flea From No Where: Compared to the other four stories in the tetralogy, this one stands out as it barely has links with the others.
  • Graceful Loser: Alyonesse takes the destruction of the planetoid in stride, since after all it means that the enemy didn't got it, so it still count as a victory for her.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Kruth, Neopard's cousin, manages to cheat PK into buying a worker unit believing it to be a war machine.
  • It's Personal: Played for Laughs, when Geena speculates that PK could be in cahoots with the aliens, Angus takes her microphone and bursts in, claiming that PK was clearly kidnapped by alien forces.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: PK unleashes his war machine on the enemies... except that it's an armored, very destructive demolition unit which proceeds to destroy the planetoid, ignoring damage from all attacks. In no time, the planetoid is in such a ruinous state that there's no point in fighting anymore.
  • Planet of Hats: As it turns out, everyone on Neopard's home planet is either a mercenary or a merchant of weapons.
  • Red Baron: This episode clarifies that Neopard and Alyonesse are nom de guerre, their real names being Groft Van Moor and Elenthari Lleyr Dalash.
  • Trojan Prisoner: Neopard is captured in an ambush by Alyonesse... but as soon as she leaves to deal with PK, he uses his tinkering tech skills to sabotage and reprogram her droids.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Qwyn's outraged reaction when he sees what PK had bought from Kruft without his supervision.
