Let's Start a Band!

Original Airdate: September 20, 2020
Written by: Tete Inoue
Directed by: Noboru Takemoto

Summary:

Sayo starts a rock band with the other Kiramagers to encourage a kid going into surgery when the members of her doctor's band have a car accident because of a certain loud noise.

Tropes:

  • The Cameo: Yohei Onishi and Takashi Deguchi, the OP and ED singers respectively, make appearances as Sayo's bandmates.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • At the start of the episode, Juru is walking into the CARAT base with a guitar as he is practicing for his school's culture festival. This proves to be perfect later on when the Kiramagers form a band on the spot.
    • The antenna Shiguru cut off from Speaker Jamen is used as a part of a transmitter Muryo built to cancel out his noise, which is used by the Kiramager's to transmit Yukiya's song to him.
  • The Disease That Shall Not Be Named: Whatever Yukiya (the kid) is going into surgery for, nothing is known about it other than if he doesn't have the surgery, it'll worsen and he won't be able to play anymore.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode title is a reference to the manga You're Under Arrest! (逮捕しちゃうぞ/Taihou Shichauzo). It fits Kiramager's Idiosyncratic Episode Naming motif because Toei distributed the 1999 film.note
  • The Power of Rock: On both sides during the episode: The Kiramagers play a nice pop rock tune with Tametomo on vocals to encourage the kid, and Galza bashes out some wicked metal riffs and solos to deafen everyone and literally destroy shit. Juru even says himself that music just has that power.
  • Product Placement: Averted. Juru's guitar looks like to be a Fender, but there is a sticker that says "Caliber" over the brand to avoid the trope.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shown Their Work: Before the episode premiered, the cast (excluding Takamichi obviously) were taught the basics of holding and playing their instruments. Therefore, if you look at the Kiramagers' hands, you can see that they are actually playing legitimate chords and notes rather than just holding them randomly.
  • Special Edition Title: As part of the "Kiramai Music Festival", the song the Kiramagers play in the episode Yuki wo Kanae e te, intercut with shots of the six, serves as the ending credits. Takamichi also makes an appearance...playing his Shiny Breaker.
