Recap / Legends Of Tomorrow S 7 E 12 Too Legit To Quit

Go To

The Legends take a gravely wounded Gideon back to the Waverider, and realize that to save her, they must reactivate her rogue counterpart.

Tropes:

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Both Gideons convince the Legends to retire and leave protecting the timeline to the two of them.
  • Action Politician: Apparently, Astra will run for president in 2040.
  • Actually a Doombot: Gideon discovered that she couldn't save Alun as his death was a fixed point in time, so she just made a robot version of him. All the Legends are seemingly fooled except Gwyn at the end.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Gideon points this out in regards to Rogue Gideon's argument with Sara and Ava on how to fix time.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • Zari intentionally switching wires before re-activating Rogue Gideon.
    • Astra's duplication spell, first used on a bag of peanuts to sate her teammates' appetites, later she uses it again to multiply John's magic key so each of the Legends can have access to his mansion.
  • Cliffhanger: Gary's fate, after Rogue Gideon ejects him from the Waverider.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • When Nate says that Legends don't retire, the others bring up all of their former members who did, in fact, retire.
    • Sara and Ava's daughter is shown to be at Camp Ogawa, the same camp they went into in "Wet Hot American Bummer."
    • As Spooner is moving through the vents, Future!Nate's interview has him and talk about J. Edgar Hoover.
  • Enemy Mine: The Legends need Rogue Gideon in order to save the human one.
  • The Final Temptation: This is the basic plot of the episode. Rogue Gideon tries to convince the Legends to retire by showing them visions of their peaceful futures...though "peaceful" doesn't always mean "happy".
  • Glamour: Astra uses this kind of spell to disguise herself as Spooner so that Rogue Gideon can "read her fortune" and not get suspicious about Spooner's absence, as the real one is in the air ducts at the time.
  • Godzilla Threshold: In order to heal their Gideon, the Legends are forced to turn Rogue Gideon back on.
  • History Repeats: Once again, Rogue Gideon manipulates someone close to the ship's captain into going into the armory before ejecting them into the timestream.
  • I Choose to Stay: Gary is the only one of the Legends who decides to stay on the Waverider at the end of the episode, wanting to be with Gideon no matter what. Unfortunately for him Rogue Gideon has other ideas.
  • Immediate Sequel: Since the last episode had a Cliffhanger, it shows the heroes taking human Gideon to the medbay.
  • Internal Reveal: Rogue Gideon learns about her human counterpart.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When the group are deciding when to have a big dinner party, they originally decide on Sunday at 9pm, which was the Legends' time slot for most of last season. Nate couldn't make it, so it was changed to Wednesday at 8pm, the timeslot this season aired on. When Gwynn brings up time zones, Gary says "8:00 Eastern, 7:00 Central" and stops himself before he actually namedrops The CW.
  • Loophole Abuse: Human Gideon informs the Legends about a protocol that prevents any Gideon from destroying itself, and that applies to the potential scenario of Rogue Gideon killing human Gideon.
  • Lured into a Trap: Rogue Gideon sends Gary to the armory under the pretense of Human Gideon waiting for him. She then throws him out of the Waverider.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Rogue Gideon tries to convince Gary to leave the ship claiming it is the best thing for Gideon, then throwing him out the airlock when he doesn't listen. Meanwhile, she tells Gideon that he left voluntarily, claiming that he abandoned her.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Zari and Ava were about to go ahead with their Zany Scheme to save Alun, until Gideon reveals that she herself brought him back to the Waverider.
  • Sadist: Rogue Gideon obviously takes pleasure in trying to kill the Legends.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spot the Imposter: Gwyn very quickly realizes that Alun is a robot, since the latter's personality was based on Gwyn's diaries and he doesn't remember things that weren't mentioned in them, like the words Alun would always say when they parted.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Inverted in a way since it's the "monster" who convinces the Legends to finally retire by showing them their potential futures.
  • Talking to Themself: Between the two Gideons, all throughout the episode. Lampshaded by Behrad.
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: Almost happens to Spooner, but Astra and human Gideon were able to convince the Rogue Gideon to spare her. Rogue Gideon was later successful in ejecting Gary.
