Go To

After finding some Indian artifacts, Hank ends up having his lawn turned into an archeologist site and Peggy spends time with the Profesor in charge.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Batman Gambit: Hank attempts one by making an artifact out of bailing twine and using chicken bones that were burned by a blown-torch and grinded by a power sander and buries it in an attempt to humiliate Professor Lerner. But it goes horribly wrong when Peggy discovers it and Professor Lerner and his crew determine what it really is to humiliate Peggy.
  • Big "NO!": Hank gives one when he wakes up and sees the archeology team digging up his lawn.
  • Class Trip: At one point, Peggy arranges a field trip to the archeology site.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Professor Lerner tells Peggy about his Indian bracelet replica, Bobby thinks it's funny, a man wearing jewelry like in the British comedies he was watching with her on PBS.
  • Crying Indian: Parodied; when Hank reads the archeology agreement, he complains about how unfair it is the government can take over land. Bill then says that's what happened to the people who lived there long before them, making him cry before throwing his beer can on the ground and walking away.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: After Hanks "artifact" was found by Peggy, she asks if Hank was jealous, but he denies it saying, "I was just mad because you were spending all your time with that guy and I want you to spend it with me. Jealously had nothing to do with it."
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Hank is this when he sees Peggy and Lerner together, though he doesn't really admit it.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Hank first finds the arrowhead, he shows it to John Redcorn and asks how much it would be worth. Redcorn very severely tells Hank that it's wrong to take another man's property...but gets interrupted by Nancy calling out "Come Back to Bed, Honey". He blushes, says "Well, food for thought", and retreats back into the house.
  • Jerkass: Professor Lerner is incredibly smug about his knowledge, totally manipulative (read below) and humiliates Peggy when she's found Hank's fake artifact and have his team explain what it really is in a condescending way.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Professor Lerner lies about the values of the arrowhead and shaft straightener to Hank and gives him $10 (John Redcorn said they were worth $50). Afterwards, Lerner goes to Hank's house and has Peggy sign an agreement to dig at the house, by which he compliments her. Lampshaded when Professor Lerner tells his assistant that flattering people make them easy targets to get whatever you want and, if he could, he could have gotten the Hill house if he said Peggy's "stupid glasses" looked nice.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Hank wonders if Peggy is attracted to Professor Lerner due to the two of them bonding and giving her his replica Indian bracelet. Peggy of course had no interest in him and Lerner laughs it off, stating how if he wanted to, he could have scored with her over a price of a cheap bracelet. That, of course, gets him thrown into the hole.
  • Overly Long Gag: After he pisses off Hank implying he could have scored with Peggy, Hank throws Lerner into the hole. After three times, he tries to get out again and Peggy pushes him in, then Bobby. It even continues in The Stinger.
Professor Lerner: You'll get tired of this long before I do. (Thud)
  • Reverse Psychology Backfire: After getting knocked back into the hole by Hank and then Peggy, Lerner tries some Reverse Psychology, saying how fun it is to get knocked into the hole and says to push him in the hole. Bobby obliges.
  • Sand In My Eyes: Subverted; when Hank admits that he wanted Peggy to spend time with him, he accidentally kicks dirt in Peggy's eyes. She says she's got something in her eyes, but she is also crying, touched by Hank's feelings for her.
  • Strawman U: Hank goes to the university to visit Professor Lerner, which is presented as a liberal place, where he runs into a student asking to sign a petition to legalize hemp (not aware it's marijuana and reacts in horror when he finds out), see a student with a "MEAT IS MURDER" T-shirt and a Straw Feminist with a "NO SEXISM" T-shirt that accentuates her breasts (which kind of defeats the purpose) and rudely telling Hank (who's reading her shirt without any perverted undertones), "That's right, they're breasts! Big deal!"
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Hank's attempt to trick Lerner instantly collapses because the man with a degree in archeology, backed by a group of archeology grad students, were able to spot a fake artifact immediately. This doesn’t stop Hank from feeling victorious when Lerner mistook the baling twine he used for the fake artifact as kite string.
