In a flashback episode, after surviving the pteranodon attack and presumed dead, Ben now has to adapt to surviving on the island alone and he will have to overcome his fears and face many obstacles, including Toro the Carnotaurus.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode focuses on what Ben and Bumpy were doing after the other campers were separated from them at the end of Season 1.
  • The Cavalry: During his fight with Toro, Ben is actually holding his own, but it looks like the fight could go either way… until Bumpy, now a young adult Ankylosaurus, shows up and the two work together to take the Carnotaurus down.
  • Fantastic Fruits and Vegetables: Ben largely survives off some strange orange berries he finds that Bumpy eats.
  • Foregone Conclusion: The previous episode ended with a survivalist Ben and a grown Bumpy reuniting with the group. Given this is a prequel episode, it's clear that these two will not only survive, but that Bumpy would forgive Ben and return to him after their Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure.
  • Foreshadowing: When Ben tries to get Bumpy to give him more room in their shelter, he struggles and notes she's heavier than he remembers. This is meant to hint that this is the turning point where Bumpy would make her off-screen growth into a full-fledged ankylosaur.
  • Instant Leech: Just Fall in Water!: Upon regaining consciousness after being dropped into mud by the Pteranodons, Ben notices Bumpy, takes stock of his situation, notices a leech on his leg, and immediately passes out again.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: After being scared of just about every living thing on the island for way too long, Ben fashions a spear and actively goes after Toro the Carnotaurus, who had chased him and Bumpy off a cliff the day after he fell.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Ben hits it twice. First, as time goes on and Bumpy gets bigger, Ben grows increasingly frustrated as Bumpy keeps hogging the lean-to, forcing him to sleep upright, until he explodes at her and drives her away. Second, the night after he drives her off, he’s surrounded by a LOT of Compies that begin to approach him as he cowers next to the lean-to… only for him to lash out at them, and drive the huge swarm away singlehandedly.
  • Redemption in the Rain: Not redemption for any kind of cruelty, but for his cowardice. As a thunderstorm pours down all around him, Ben finally snaps as he’s surrounded by Compies, finds his inner courage, and drives them all away with a big stick and a maddened shriek. Cue a Skyward Scream into the storm, as Ben leaves his timid past behind forever.
  • Rule of Three: A character takes a fall that results in apparent death three times in the episode: First, Ben falls from the monorail, pursued by Pteranodons. Second, Ben and Bumpy leap off a low cliff and hide under the overhang to evade Toro. Third, a newly-emboldened Ben and a much larger Bumpy turn the tables on Toro, forcing the Carnotaurus off a much higher cliff, apparently seriously injuring him in the process.
  • Time-Compression Montage: Ben survives with Bumpy for some time in the wilderness after making a simple lean-to, drinking water from a nearby river and eating berries.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Ben reaches his Rage Breaking Point, overcomes his fears and even faces Toro and (with Bumpy’s help) defeats the Carnotaurus.
