Recap / I Carly S 02 Ep 04 I Hurt Lewbert

Go To

iHurt Lewbert is an episode from Season 2 of iCarly.

Another prank the iCarly trio pull on Lewbert horribly backfires when it leaves him hospitalized with mild injuries and Spencer decides the fitting punishment is to force them to cater to Lewbert until he heals. Unsurprisingly, Lewbert is a very unpleasant patient to take care of.

Meanwhile, Spencer temporarily takes over Lewbert's position as the doorman, gets into a feud with a bratty kid, and annoys some truckers with lame jokes.

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: After Lewbert shows no sympathy for Freddie at the end, tells Spencer off, and is ungrateful for his help, he gets beat up by two truck drivers.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Spencer, in the demonstration video of the confetti cannon in the muffin basket.
  • Blatant Lies: When the paramedics ask them how Lewbert got injured, the iCarlys, worried they would get in trouble if they told them the truth, claim that he fell and broke his back. This, along with fact that the lobby is covered in muffin material from the explosion, confuses the paramedics, until Carly distracts them by telling them there's no time for that, and just get Lewbert to the hospital.
  • Blown Across the Room: This happens to Lewbert when the muffin basket explodes.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: When Lewbert comes back to serve as a doorman, Spencer gives him his things that he got while he was away. These include letters from his mother, death threats, and death threats from his mother.
  • Brick Joke: Freddie shows to Carly and Sam that as part of his mother not being so protective, he is wearing open-toed shoes, which would make her worry. Later, when Mrs. Benson is fussing over Freddie’s Staircase Tumble, she says that it's probably because he's wearing open-toed shoes.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Because Sam found out that Freddie wasn't wearing a belt, she pulled his shorts down, exposing his briefs to the class hallway.
  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: Spencer instructs the iCarly three to cater to Lewbert, which they don't want to do because they hate him, but feel guilty about their actions and go through with it anyway. Even Lewbert was against this idea since he hates them as well.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Lewbert. Here we get to see what his room looks like, with half the episode taking place in it.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Chuck gets mad at Spencer for getting him grounded and sics two angry truck drivers on him, all because Spencer reported him playing with a tennis ball and racket in the lobby, which is simply something that Chuck wasn't supposed to be doing in the first place. Additionally, this starts his series-long feud with Spencer.
  • Flat "What": Freddie says this when Sam and Carly tell him that the only way to get his mother to stop loving Lewbert is if he got hurt himself.
  • Get Out!: The first words to come out of Lewbert's mouth when the iCarly three enter his room to cater to him. He also says this to Spencer when his CB radio appears on his desk.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: The iCarlys' plan on "Messin' With Lewbert" is for him to get a muffin basket with a hidden confetti cannon which will surprise him. However, when they activate the surprise, the cannon EXPLODES, sending muffin fragments across the room along with Lewbert, who lands on his back, injuring him.
  • Informed Kindness: Sam complained that she worked hard for the last five days to help out Lewbert and he won't thank her at all. However, we never saw Sam put in any effort, as she just lazily stood around waiting for Carly and Freddie to do their tasks.
  • It's All About Me:
    • While Carly and Freddie are worried about Lewbert, Sam just says that she's glad they didn't get into a lot of trouble. When Freddie angrily asks her if she cares about anyone but herself, Sam replies that she CAN, but she CHOOSES not to.
    • Also, when Mrs. Benson is worried over Freddie, who just tumbled down the stairs, Lewbert doesn't care about him in the slightest. He tells Freddie to not get blood on the lobby floor, that he needs cream on his wart, and to Mrs. Benson that they need to get to their dinner reservation which is in 20 minutes. And lastly, he tries to get Mrs. Benson's fish loaf recipe when they break up.
  • Jaw Drop: Sam when Freddie tells her that he slept in only his socks. Because she was eating at the time, several chewed up pieces of chips fall out of her mouth as she does this.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Even though Lewbert is in stitches and is walking on crutches, this does not stop the angry truck drivers from giving him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Lewbert gets manhandled by burly truck drivers at the end, while still in stitches and only partially mobile from his last injury, right after his mistreatment towards the iCarly trio (especially Freddie).
  • The Pig-Pen: Lewbert's room is absolutely disgusting, dusty, and filthy.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: "PUT! The bows! DOWN!"
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Mrs. Benson gives a very harsh one to Lewbert when dumping him after he showed no sympathy to Freddie after he fell down the stairs.
Mrs. Benson: I'm sorry, Lewbert, but you are a mean, NASTY man! I cured your body, but I can't cure your HIDEOUS personality!
  • Staircase Tumble: Freddie inflicts this on himself on purpose so that Marissa will pay attention to him again and see for herself just how much of an uncaring, self-serving jerkass Lewbert is.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Spencer has been annoying two truck drivers on a ham radio by making jokes to and about them. Chuck, who's angry at Spencer for getting him grounded, decides to approach the ham radio when Spencer is off-duty and tells the drivers that he works as a hotel lobby doorman. However, since Lewbert came back on duty by the time the truck drivers got there, and the fact that Chuck only referred to Spencer as the "doorman", made them think that Lewbert was the one who was messing with them.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Lewbert. He has no kind words for the iCarly three or Marissa for how they healed him from his injuries, nor even to Spencer who fulfilled his duties for free.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: In order to have his mother dump Lewbert, Freddie decides to "accidentally" tumble down the lobby stairs in order for him to not get seriously injured, but also for his mother to divert her attention away from Lewbert and onto him. This, along with Lewbert only caring about his lobby and his dinner reservation, is what finally convinces Mrs. Benson to see his terrible personality and dump him on the spot.
