Rusty To The Rescue
Cowardly Rusty has to face his fears in order to rescue Alex, a boy who’s stuck at the top of a jungle gym due to a broken ladder rung.
“Rusty To The Rescue” includes the following tropes:
- Face Your Fears: Rusty has to confront his fear of… possibly heights (it’s not made very clear) in order to fix a broken rung on a jungle gym ladder.
- Fictional Document: “10 Great Ways To Build A Treehouse”, which Manny reads to the tools after they get back from the repair and discover that they’ve missed the entirety of The Wing And Nut Show.
- The Freelance Shame Squad: When Mr. Lopart gets his feet tangled in a hose and falls, Julieta and Nelson appear on scooters and laugh at him.
- Garden-Hose Squirt Surprise: Mr. Lopart inadvertently does this to himself when the hose he was trying to use gets caught in his shop door.
- Hammerspace: At the end of her Show Within a Show, Nut produces a bush and dustpan from nowhere.
- Invisible Anatomy: This is how Nut holds the above-mentioned brush and dustpan.
- Show Within a Show: The Wing And Nut Show, which stars a couple of bolts and nuts (as in, two entities made of one bolt and one nut each) named Wing and Nut, makes its debut.
Piñata Party
It’s Manny’s birthday, and he and the tools are all set to party- at least until Sam from the bike shop calls with an urgent repair job- his air pump has broken down, on the day of the Wood Valley Bike Race no less!
“Piñata Party” contains instances of the following:
- Alliterative Title: Piñata Party
- Ageless Birthday Episode: It’s Manny’s birthday, and we never find out how old he actually is.
- An Aesop: The tools learn the importance of taking turns.
- Audible Gleam: The scooter Gabriella and Cameron are fixing emits one.
- Birthday Episode: It’s Manny’s birthday, and Abuelito has brought him a piña- oop, wait, Manny has to go fix a bike shop’s air compressor first.
- Furry Confusion: The background of Sam’s bike shop is absolutely loaded with inanimate tools.
- Heads or Tails?: Manny has Sam’s assistants settle their argument over who gets to test-ride the scooter they just fixed first by flipping a coin.
- Hard-Work Montage: In addition to the usual “We Work Together” montage (which in this episode consists of the tools fixing the air pump), there’s also one of Manny and the tools helping Sam pump up flat tires.
- Motorcycle Dominoes: While fighting over who gets to test-ride a scooter, Gabriella and Cameron end up knocking over a whole row of bicycles this way.
- Pun: While reassuring Sam that the repair job won’t take too long, Manny tells him he’ll “be fixing flats in no time flat”.
- Surprise Party: At the beginning of the episode, the tools have one set up for Manny, which he appreciates… at least until the party is interrupted by a repair job.
- Wheelchair Antics: Sam does a wheelie and spin in his wheelchair once said chair’s flat wheel is fixed.
