Recap / Fanboy And Chum Chum S 2 E 37 Speed Eraser

Go To

When Fanboy is made the new "Board Eraser-er", Kyle gets jealous and gives him an eraser that literally erases anything, which makes him a star.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Don’t dislike someone who succeeds a title you previously had; just let them enjoy it as they deserve it.
  • Asshole Victim: Kyle definitely gets a proper comeuppance for nearly making Fanboy cry when his body is erased from the eraser.
  • Big "NO!": Kyle screams one when Fanboy nearly erases his own head with the eraser. He shouts another when he erases his wand with it.
  • Break the Cutie: A brief one occurs. The eraser literally being attached to Fanboy is enough to reduce him to tears, yet his sadness gets the better of him and turns the eraser against Kyle, erasing him (except the head). Justified, as that was the eraser taking control over him.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: After Fanboy literally makes a hole in the wall, Mr. Mufflin appears to call him out, but instead he cheers him, contemplating he "freed them all".
Mr. Mufflin: Purple Kid, what have you done?!
Kyle: Yes, Fanboy. What have you done...? Muahahahahaha...MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Mr. Mufflin: (happily) You FREED US ALL!!!!!
    Kyle: MUAHAHAHAHA — (confused) Whaaaaaa...?
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Kyle is jealous of Fanboy again since "The Book Report of the Dead", and he steals his spotlight once more.
    • Chum Chum faints in disgust at what happens like he did in "Wizboy", only this time it's really for bad.
  • Close Up On Head: Seen on Kyle before the camera zooms out his body is gone, having been erased by the eraser.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Poor Kyle had no idea about any consequences that would occur against him once he literally attached it to Fanboy; he forgot to mention anyone he touches will be erased, and since the eraser is sentient, it keeps taking over every single one of Fanboy's actions when he tries to get Kyle's wand which eventually leads to him erasing it. Best seen when he struggles to use his free hand to get the wand, but then the hand with the eraser rises up before he fights against it.
  • Distant Reaction Shot: After Fanboy magically erases Boog's high scores on the Chimp Chomp game, we zoom all the way to Boog's apartment where he actually senses it.
Boog: AGH!!! I feel a great disturbance... like a million points cried out, and were suddenly silenced. (Rushes all the way to the Frosty Mart) WHO ERASED MY HIGH SCORES??!!!!!!
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The scene after Kyle's body is erased and Fanboy tries to erase his head as well is played out almost like a punishment.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Fanboy actually does make a small point when he says "[he] got Kyle into this mess" for erasing his own body with the eraser, when in reality it was because the eraser was controlling his movements.
  • Evil Laugh: Kyle lets out three of them throughout the episode. The first is when he creates the eraser, the second is when Mr. Mufflin sees Fanboy erase the wall (which gets replaced by a weak "Wha?" when he praises him for it), and the third is when he attaches the eraser to Fanboy's hand.
  • Faint in Shock: Done by Chum Chum when he is shocked over what the eraser does now that it's literally attached to Fanboy.
  • Faux Horrific: When Fanboy is horrified that the eraser will erase the TV remote, he freaks out over the fact he and Chum Chum will be forced to watch commercials.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • When the magic eraser is produced, it is erase-side down, on Kyle's hand. Later on in the episode, Fanboy accidentally erases Kyle's body with it.
    • A rather bit of spoiling, but on the title card Fanboy is erasing Kyle's body. What happens to Kyle again, everyone?
  • For Want Of A Nail: The reason Fanboy was given the board eraser-er position in the first place was because of an improvised routine he performs when Kyle was absent.
  • Funny Background Event: When Fanboy is shocked at what will happen now that the eraser's stuck to him, you can see Chum Chum faint next to him. Then when he inches toward Kyle, you can see he's still fainted.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Kyle becomes one after Fanboy becomes the new eraser-er.
  • Irony:
    • Despite Kyle acting super malicious and mean in this episode, Mr. Mufflin seems oddly kinder than usual, mostly over praising Fanboy.
    • Fanboy says he got Kyle into this mess (after accidentally erasing his body), when really, Kyle was the one who got him into the mess in the first place.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The eraser Kyle makes for revenge ultimately turns against him in the climax, when a dumbstruck Fanboy ends up erasing his body.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Despite everything Kyle does to Fanboy, he does make a valid reason at noting he's destroying the whole city with the eraser and everyone is praising him for it.
  • Karma Houdini: Fanboy makes no effort to tell Mr. Mufflin that Kyle is ruining everything after the eraser is attached to him. In fact, Kyle is never caught for his scheme.
  • Kindness Ball: Mr. Mufflin is nothing like his humdrum outlook throughout the episode, instead feeling more peppy than normal. He is also the first character to praise Fanboy for literally erasing the blackboard and "freeing" the whole class.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After everything Kyle does throughout the episode (and especially nearly reducing Fanboy to a crying and freaked-out mess), Fanboy rightfully awards him with inadvertently erasing his body and both his wands with the eraser he gave him.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: "Why is it all dark and evily over here?"
  • Mood Whiplash: Three happen, really.
    • Kyle enters the room with his erasers, yet late, but suddenly gets shocked upon noticing Fanboy erasing the board.
    • After the wall is erased, Mr. Mufflin comes up, appearing to punish Fanboy but then he happily says he freed everyone.
    • Kyle's antagonism is instantly replaced with worry and shock after his own body is erased.
  • No Ending: It's unknown how Kyle got his body back, and how everything erased by the magic eraser got rejuvinated. The fate of the eraser remains unknown. Also we don't know if Fanboy is still the eraser-er after the episode, and we don't know if Kyle got punished.
  • Oh, Crap!: Fanboy gets one after the eraser is literally attached to him. It gets progressively bigger as Kyle lists off the things that will happen because of it. Kyle then gets the same reaction when his whole body is erased.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Kyle's issue is rather so intense to him that he never bothers to think of returning to his old school Milkweed Academy.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: When the eraser clamps itself to Fanboy's hand, we get a back and forth alternating shot of both FB and CC screaming in horror, ending with a scene of a turtle screaming, too.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Kyle gives a rather nasty - yet frightening one to Fanboy after literally attaching the eraser to him.
  • Record Needle Scratch: When Kyle stops laughing after Mr. Mufflin praises Fanboy for erasing the wall instead of punishing him.
  • Revenge: Kyle vows this on Fanboy for stealing his spotlight and succeeding him as the board eraser-er, to which he gives him the magic eraser as payback. However, the eraser gives him more praise than punishment.
  • Scare 'Em Straight: Kyle ends up invoking this by bonding the eraser to Fanboy's hand to scare him into not destroying the town anymore and show him the consequences of such. Said consequences are enough to reduce him to a screaming and crying frenzy — and he winds up demonstrating them on Kyle himself.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Space Whale Aesop: Your revenge on someone might result in it affecting you instead.
  • Surprisingly Creepy Moment: While listing off what will happen thanks to the eraser attached to Fanboy, Kyle begins each statement this way, but when he finishes with "it will be erased", he says it in his traditional "Evil Sounds Deep" attitude.
  • Temporarily a Villain: Kyle for the middle third of the episode.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Near the beginning of the episode, Kyle is his usual Anti-Hero personality, but when Fanboy steals his eraser-er position thanks to erasing the board a new way, he develops a more jealous, nastier personality where he literally tries to get him in trouble. He acts like this until near the end of the episode, after his body is erased thanks to Fanboy.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • Before Kyle appears before Fanboy and Chum Chum as a giant, Mr. Mufflin and the classmates run off in fear upon seeing his entrancing smoke clouds and are not seen again for the rest of the episode.
    • Whatever was the fate of the eraser after the episode ended...?
