Recap / Fanboy And Chum Chum S 2 E 31 A Very Brrry Icemas

Go To

Fanboy longs to have a special gift called the Mega-Octo Rocket Kracken (M.O.R.K.) for Icemas, but when he learns there's a Super Mega-Octo Rocket Kracken (S.M.O.R.K.) as well, his antics cause him to be put on the naughty list. It's up to Fanboy and Chum Chum to travel to Man-Arctica's workshop and settle things right.

Tropes:

  • All There in the Script: Benjamin is the pale kid, while the normal-skinned toddler is named Murphy. The girl who yells out, "That's Mr. Mufflin!" is named Molly, and she turns out to be the toddler who bears a strong resemblance to Lupe.
  • An Aesop: It's better to give than to receive.
  • Ascended Extra: The pale toddler has a bigger role than before. The credits reveal his name is Benjamin.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Fanboy winds up giving his S.M.O.R.K. to Benjamin after ruining his present, but he gets a bigger one anyway.
  • Call-Back: Man-Arctica's toy deliveries were mentioned way back in "Night Morning", where Yo provides a Retcon; see below.
  • Christmas Episode: Taking place on an ice-themed version of the holiday.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The Wishsicles turn blue to indicate the wish giver has been nice, and red for naughty.
  • Cuteness Proximity: According to Fanboy, Chum Chum is so cute that he gets away with anything.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Quite a big example.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The entire episode is set at night, on Icemas Eve. To top it off, it's a half hour episode.
  • Everybody Cries: The entire audience breaks out into tears after Mr. Mufflin's costume is removed.
  • Faint in Shock: Lupe faints when Mr. Mufflin's Man-Arctica costume is shed.
  • Foreshadowing: Right after Fanboy makes his wish for the M.O.R.K. and as he and Chum Chum slide out the door, Benjamin tells them they didn't even ask for the S.M.O.R.K. Near the end, Fanboy ends up giving his S.M.O.R.K. to Benjamin.
  • For Want Of A Nail: If Benjamin didn't bring up the S.M.O.R.K. when he did, then Fanboy's predicament wouldn't have happened in the first place.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Fanboy addresses the crowd when giving his wish, Kyle is shown smiling at him...in a way.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Fanboy manages to undo the "naughty" status on the Wishsicle and reset it to "nice" so he can get the S.M.O.R.K. However when Benjamin is upset over losing his gift in the climax (completely ignoring the fact Fanboy saved his life), Fanboy ends up willingly giving the S.M.O.R.K. to him so he won't be upset.
  • Fun with Acronyms: M.O.R.K. (Mega Octo Rocket Kracken) and S.M.O.R.K. (Super Mega Octo Rocket Kracken).
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The updated teddy bears have glowing red laser eyes.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Fanboy saves Benjamin from the deadly teddy bear, only for him to cry that they destroyed his gift. Yeah, what a nice way to thank someone who just saved your life.
  • It Only Works Once: Once you've made your wish, you cannot change it once you're off the lap.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The audience after Fanboy accidentally removes Mr. Mufflin's costume, which later shifts into a huge round of crying.
  • Ocular Gushers: Benjamin after his teddy bear explodes, unaware that it was dangerous.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: During the scene where everyone cries at the Frosty Mart after their "Man-Artica" was revealed, Kyle is crying along with them.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: FB and CC's Blue Berry disguises are rather obvious, but fools Man-Arctica completely.
  • Proscenium Reveal: The opening scene where Fanboy looks at the M.O.R.K. in a department store window eventually turns out to be a set in the Fanlair.
  • Series Continuity Error: This episode provides a huge discontinuity to the episode "Night Morning", where Yo mentions Santa Clause, whom Chum Chum and Man-Arctica don't know. Also, in "Eyes on the Prize", Fanboy says getting a box of Man-Arcticrunch is like Christmas, but with cereal. It's possible Christmas isn't celebrated in Galaxy Hills, with Icemas taking its place.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The last lines are a homage to the ending of The Night Before Christmas.
    • "Permanent Naughty List", ey?
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Man-Arctica quietly takes the boys outside once Benjamin succumbs to the results of the S.M.O.R.K., before he starts crying again.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Fanboy gets the S.M.O.R.K. he wanted, but after seeing Benjamin cry over losing his Icemas gift (despite saving his life), he comes clean and sacrifices the S.M.O.R.K. to him.
  • Taking the Bullet: When Benjamin receives the dangerous teddy bear and is about to be attacked by it, Fanboy jumps in and winds up succumbing to it, exposing his disguise.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Man-Arctica unexpectedly found one deadly bear that fell out of the bag and is unaware of its circumstances. Benjamin is also unaware he's about to be attacked by it.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Benjamin doesn't even bother to thank Fanboy for saving him from that deadly teddy bear, instead choosing to cry over his toy being ruined.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Specifically Benjamin saying there's a Super Mega Octo Rocket Kracken is what causes Fanboy to flip out and accidentally ruin Mr. Mufflin's display, thus pronouncing him naughty and kicking off the plot of the show.
  • Wham Line: "You didn't even ask for the Super Mega Octo Rocket Kracken!"
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It's not explained what happened to the audience after Fanboy and Chum Chum leave the Frosty Mart, the only ones seen at the end are the toddlers.
  • Wingding Eyes: When Man-Arctica is mentioning the permanent naughty list, the fire is reflected in the boys' eyes with "NAUGHTY!" appearing in one of Fanboy's. Happens again when Fanboy panics on being on the list, with "FOR" and "EVER" appearing with the fire.
  • You Mean "Xmas": They celebrate "Icemas" - a holiday heavily based on Christmas with ice, and Man-Arctica as the Santa Clause.
