Recap / Family Guy S 17 E 15 No Giggity No Doubt

Go To

Quagmire once again finds out he has a child from his years of promiscuity, only this time, she's 18 and Quagmire finds this out after nearly having sex with her.

Tropes:

  • Agony of the Feet: Cleveland steps on a loose nail while dancing on the piece of cardboard he found.
  • Ambiguously Bi: A gag involves Quagmire flying his airplane upside down, while another airplane lowers itself down on top of it in a "69" position. When hearing the voice of the airplane pilot, and all of the other airplanes it talks to, it's shown that the planes are male.
  • Callback: Peter spray-paints "More please, John Mayer" on a rock, in a reference to Chris spraypainting "That's enough, John Mayer" on the garage door in "Brian the Bachelor".
    Peter: We've changed our minds.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Smitty got decapitated on the day of his bachelor's party.
    Peter: Hm, unfortunate timing.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Quagmire has a DNA test at the ready just in case he suspects he might be related to a girl he's about to sleep with.
  • Crossover Punchline: Characters from The Cleveland Show, American Dad!, and Family Guy Presents: Laugh It Up, Fuzzball, plus the ship from The Orville, show up outside the Griffin house among the crowd as part of the punchline to Peter suggesting different people for Quagmire to invite to his camping trip (though Peter didn't even mention American Dad!).
  • Daddy DNA Test: Quagmire performs this on Courtney, to confirm that she is his daughter.
  • Ensemble Cast: The cast from not just this show, but also American Dad! and The Cleveland Show are shown off in a massive group shot, including tons of major, minor, and one-time characters from all three of the shows. Even the ship from The Orville appears (albeit in animated form).
  • Halfway Plot Switch: The episode starts with Peter and his friends crashing parties so they can ride the party bus. Then Quagmire finds out he has a long lost daughter and the episode focuses on their relationship.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Quagmire reprimands Peter for his remark about Quagmire sleeping with Courtney and Joe for referring to Peter and Quagmire as "ladies", later Quagmire uses the outdated "Take Your Daughter to Work Day".note
  • In Case of X, Break Glass: Quagmire worries that Courtney, a teenage girl he's about to have sex with, is actually his illegitimate daughter and breaks open a case to fetch an emergency DNA test (it's next to a case for an emergency HIV test).
  • Instant Turn-Off: The moment he found out Courtney was his daughter, he immediately stopped trying to bed her, and is in horror he had nearly done so. It could count as an example of Character Development, considering with his other daughter Anna Lee he had no qualms about trying to do her the moment she turned 18.
  • Long List: When Quagmire offers Peter and Meg to join him and Courtney on a camping trip, Peter, not willing to go, suggests taking one of the other Griffins instead, then starts suggesting many of the show's recurring characters, then characters like "the 'phony' guy", John Travolta as he appeared in a Cutaway Gag, the characters as characters from Star Wars, everyone from The Cleveland Show, and even The Orville (specifically the eponymous ship, not the show's cast), before he finally suggests, "Um, me? Aw, damn it!" At this point, Peter finally agrees to come along, and Seamus (the first character Peter suggested after the Griffins) appears at the window. Peter looks out the window and sees a Crowded-Cast Shot of everyone he suggested, plus characters from American Dad!.
Peter: Oh my God! It's literally everyone!
  • Long-Lost Relative: Quagmire realizes he has a daughter named Courtney.
  • Overly Long Gag:
    • Cleveland dancing on a rusty old piece of cardboard.
    • Quagmire nudging his way through the crowd in the bleachers.
    • Peter listing off random characters from the show.
    • Quagmire questioning the theme of Courtney's prom.
  • Missing Mom: It's never learned who Courtney's mother is.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Quagmire has this reaction when he had realized he nearly humped his own daughter. To be fair, however, the moment he realized such, he immediately stopped and promised to be the best father he can.
  • Out of Focus: Chris has no dialogue in this episode. Brian and Stewie only have one line each.
  • Romancing the Widow: Instantly after Smitty's death, one of his best friends gets married to his bride-to-be.
  • Share Phrase: Quagmire realizes that Courtney is his daughter when she says "Giggity".
  • Shared Family Quirks: Just like her father, Courtney has a tendency to say "Giggity" when she gets excited.
  • Solar-Powered Magnifying Glass: Quagmire starts a forest fire by burning a hole through a map with a magnifying glass.
  • Surprise Incest: Quagmire finds out he has another daughter after nearly having sex with her.
  • Truth in Television: As said by Quagmire, you don't actually need a post-secondary degree to become a pilot (it helps, but it isn't mandatory).
