Recap / Empath: The Luckiest Smurf - Empath's Honeymoon

Go To

The Vacation Episode of the series. Empath and Smurfette go to Utopia Island for their honeymoon together, but on their honeymoon they must put together all the pieces of the Mystic Star to free the island from the tyranny of King Tortarus. This is followed by two epilogue mini-stories, "The Wedding Present" and "Inquiring Minds Want To Know".

This story provides the following tropes:

  • Backpack Cannon: The water sprayer device that Empath uses to cool down Bulldozer.
  • Chocolate of Romance: Empath and Smurfette not only fall into a pool of chocolate mud, they also lick each other off in it.
  • Cool House: Handy and Architect upgrade Smurfette's house to be this (at least one by Smurf standards) as Empath and Smurfette's new home, which Handy shows off to the couple in the epilogue story "The Wedding Present".
  • Covered in Mud: Smurfette, in chocolate mud. Then Empath when he just dawdles and stares at Smurfette covered in mud, and Smurfette pulls him in.
  • Did You Just Have Sex?: Duncan McSmurf's nose pretty much knows that Empath has enjoyed his honeymoon with Smurfette after he returns from it with his bride.
  • Dirty Mind-Reading: Because of her new telepathic bond with Empath, Smurfette is able to sense what dirty thoughts come into his mind whenever he looks at her, such as when she fell into the chocolate mud pool and she emerges all brown and sticky.
  • Don't Look At Me: When Smurfette falls into a pool of chocolate mud, Smurfette first says to Empath, "Look at me, I'm all covered in mud," but when she notices that he's just staring at her with a wide smile on his face, she then says, "Okay, Empath, stop looking at me."
  • Engagement Challenge: Papi Utopi has Empath fight the Utopi Champion in order to win his right to "marry" Smurfette, or else she will remain forever with the Utopii. Empath easily loses to the Champion in his first match, but on the rematch Empath resorts to ground-pounding the Champion's head repeatedly to wear him down enough to be able to defeat him.
  • Expy:
  • Fantastic Arousal: Smurfette discovers that a male Smurf's bald head is an erogenous zone when she does the hat-removing ritual of marriage consummation on Empath.
  • Flames of Love: Empath and Smurfette consummate their marriage with each other next to a lighted fire on the beach.
  • Fluffy Tamer: Chugga and Conroy are these to their pet...uh, creature named Bulldozer, who has a habit of just running loose whenever he gets mad.
  • Friendly Ghost: Willow the Weeping Ghost. He only causes those around him to feel sad because he's sad about losing his beloved.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Fauna to the animals of Minimal Village.
  • The Imaginarium Is For Porn: Duncan McSmurf introduces Wild to the wonders of the Imaginarium for... um, private pleasures.
  • MacGuffin: The Mystic Star, which when all its pieces form together causes all the Tortans to flee and King Tortarus to be catapulted off the island.
  • Magic Music: Fauna's singing works as this, to dry herself off from landing in a pool of water and to comfort her animal friends at Minimal Village.
  • Man-Eating Plant: The Snapper Dragon that blocks the way to Minimal Village. However, it doesn't particularly like the taste of Empath, as one of its bulbous jaws just grabs him, shakes him around, and then tosses him away.
  • Mental Affair: Empath and Smurfette's consummation of their love together on Utopia Island seems to be a signal to Polaris Psyche that this kind of relationship that he had with Empath has ended, although it was purely platonic to begin with.
  • Mindlink Mates: During the honeymoon, Empath's consummation with Smurfette forms a new mindlink between the two of them. This, however, shuts Polaris Psyche out of the mindlink they had previously formed together, severing the connection.
  • Never Bareheaded: Smurfette figures out why male Smurfs wear hats when she does the hat-removing ritual during the consummation — the bald heads of male Smurfs are an erogenous zone.
  • The One That Got Away: Willow's beloved Mulberry, who promised to return to him so that they could be married, but never did, leaving him to wait forever for her until he died.
  • Plant Hair: The Utopii have palm leaves on their heads, and Papi Utopi has plant leaves for a mustache.
  • Plant People: The Utopii seemed to be descended from plants.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Now that Empath is married to Smurfette, he tries to cop a "psychic feel" of Smurfette while she's taking a shower in the waterfall. Smurfette is offended and tells him "hands off" until she comes out.
  • Raging Stiffie: Tapper tells Duncan McSmurf in polite terms that he gets so stimulated being near Smurfette at times that he fears she's going to see this appearing in his "nether regions" whenever he's near her. Duncan humorously refers to this as having "a banana in his pants".
  • Sequel: To "Empath's Wedding" and also the epilogue of the Empath novel.
  • Sex as Rite-of-Passage: In "Inquiring Minds Want To Know", Tapper and Duncan McSmurf both comment about Empath's privilege of being the first Smurf among his generation to lose his virginity to a female Smurf (in this case, Smurfette) after being legally married to her. Duncan is both jealous and proud of Empath, while Tapper simply says that the experience belongs solely to Empath and only he has the right to disclose or not disclose anything about it.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Done a few times whenever Empath and Smurfette are alone with each other to... uh, do their thing together. Lampshaded in Empath's journal entry that there are some things that were best left not documented.
  • Shout-Out: The two people on the island named Chugga and Conroy are one for the YouTube personality Chuggaaconroy.
  • Smurfing: Empath gains the ability to speak in Smurf fluently after his first night alone with Smurfette.
  • Tropical Island Adventure: The latter half of the story basically turns into this.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: The Utopii males basically live this trope, and encourage Empath to do so throughout the majority of this story, as they are a proud people who are not afraid to show their masculine strength.
  • You Need to Get Laid: Duncan McSmurf tells Wild what he needs is "a night in the Imaginarium" to get his mind off his troubles of never being able to find a Smurfette to be intimate with.
  • You Taste Delicious: Empath and Smurfette spend some time licking the chocolate off each other after they fall into a chocolate mud pit.
