Numbuh 4 is challenged to a dodgeball competition against the Dodgeball Wizard.

Now loading tropes:

  • Attack Its Weak Point: The Dodgeball Wizard has a long Gag Nose which would therefore make it more pliable, so a dodgeball could break his nose a lot more easily. Before this he had a giant metal rod dropped on his head and flew into both a pillar and a moving bus with no injury.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The episode builds up to the idea that Numbuh 4 is the one destined to defeat the Dodgeball Wizard. Except he gets knocked out almost as soon as the match starts and it turns out that it's Joey who's meant to beat him.
  • Brick Joke: Numbuh 4 ends up knocked out almost immediately upon arriving at the dodgeball match. He awakens once it's ended, believing himself to be the victor. When asking Joey if he wants any dodgeball tips, his younger brother knocks him out again with a ball.
  • Citywide Evacuation: Occurs when the Dodgeball Wizard summons a dodgeball the size of half of the city to take Joey out. Lampshaded by Mrs. Beatles.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Unlike the Dodgeball Monks and Joey, who at least put up a fight, Numbuh 4 is dispatched easily. The Dodgeball Wizard is even briefly annoyed that the supposed champion was that easy to defeat.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: The Dodgeball Wizard fits a lot of these. Over-the-top mannerisms, a long nose, a moustache, and a hunched posture. The only one that is ambiguous is his chin due to his beard.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The episode initially set up Numbuh 4 as the main protagonist of the episode, once he is knocked out the focus of the episode shifts to Joey.
  • Evil Is Petty: The Dodgeball Wizard spent 64 years training and drops an enormous dodgeball into a city block just to prove an adult is better than kids at dodgeball. Even by KND villain standards, this is really narrow-minded.
  • Exact Words: The only one capable of beating the Dodgeball Wizard is "the one called Beetles". There was nothing in there that said it had to be Wallabee Beetles.
  • Foreshadowing: Numbuh 4 explains to Numbuh 2 that the reason he's so good at dodgeball is that it's his personal philosophy that the smaller and younger you are at dodgeball, the better you are. It's later revealed that Joey is the greatest dodgeball player there ever was.
  • It's Personal: Played for Laughs. When Numbuh 4 learns his family is the Dodgeball Wizard's hostages, he declares "This time, IT'S PERSONAL!" ... Numbuh 2 points out that Numbuh 4's never even met the guy before, to which the latter says he said it because he's always wanted to say those words.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Numbuh 4's Pre Ass Kicking One Liner is so bad that even Numbuh 2 tells him to knock it off.
  • Nasal Trauma: Joey wins by breaking the Dodgeball Wizard's nose.
  • Never Learned to Read: Numbuh 4 is so Book Dumb that he's practically illiterate and needs Numbuh 2 to read the Dodgeball Wizard's message.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: After getting hit with a dodgeball during his opening monologue against the Dodgeball Wizard, Numbuh 4 mumbles about not wanting any more pickled herring before passing out.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Wally's mom and dad have no clue that they've been kidnapped and both think the Dodgeball Wizard is some sort of street magician.
  • Shout-Out: Numbuh 2 dresses similar to Mickey from Rocky during Numbuh 4's dodgeball match.
  • The Sociopath: The Dodgeball Wizard is a more extreme case than most villains on this show, given how he does a victory dance after it looks like he killed a toddler.
  • Villain Ball: No pun intended. The Dodgeball Wizard didn't need to trash Numbuh 4's house and kidnap his family to get to him. Given his Miles Gloriosus nature, Numbuh 4 would've gladly taken him on had he just asked. It's not like he would be hard to find, as the Dodgeball Wizard somehow already knew where Numbuh 4 lived.
