"Get ready to get an average grade in this class."

"I'm gonna stay here, like I always do."
—Tina, left behind by her "friends"

Susmita offers to help Tina with a photography class assignment, but Tina can't stop thinking about all the fun Tammy, Jocelyn, Zeke, and Jimmy Jr. are having ditching class. Meanwhile, a woman who used to live in the Belchers' apartment comes for a visit, and Louise and Gene try to figure out why Mr. Branca keeps mopping the same spot over and over.

Tropes:

  • Acting Unnatural: When Bob needs to go upstairs to check on Linda, he tells Teddy to just stay put and eat his burger. He starts nibbling at it like a squirrel eating a nut before Bob has to tell him to eat it like he normally does.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Linda tells Violet after her first visit to "come back anytime". She does indeed come back repeatedly, leaving Bob understaffed when Linda has to keep accompanying her.
  • Book Dumb: Tina, to the point that Jocelyn gets better grades in photography class while frequently ditching.
  • The Bus Came Back: Mr. Desanto returns.
  • Cool Teacher: Tina's photography teacher, Mr. Desanto, is trying to invoke it. Considering four of his students outright skip class, he's not quite succeeding.
  • Extreme Doormat: Linda is unable to tell Violet to stop coming back, culminating in helping her and her family recreate a photo for Violet's mother by rearranging the living room (and getting slight criticism that their current living room makes no sense in how it's arranged).
  • Extreme Omnivore: Gene has eaten erasers off the ends of pencils before, though he doesn't think they taste that good. He later expresses his desire to eat some of the cut-up remains of Tina's photo.
  • Fast-Forward Gag: The scene in the closing credits shows time-lapse footage of Linda and Bob moving the couch around while Tina takes pictures and Gene and Louise jump on it.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently Jimmy Jr., Zeke, Tammy, and Jocelyn, four students who are textbook examples of The Ditz, get pretty good grades in photography class—better than Tina, even.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Teddy believes that in his old age he'll be in better shape than Bob, and tells Bob that he needs to get in shape... as he's eating his burger. To further nail the point in, he asks for some more fries.
  • Idiot Ball: Tina and Susmita fall for Tammy's very obvious trick to destroy the photo and negative of Tina's fence picture to cover up her and her friends sneaking out of school. Justified in Tina's case as her desire for acceptance and popularity often lead to her making bad decisions, but Susmita falling for it is a bit out of character.
  • I Meant to Do That:
    • Susmita notices that one of Tina's pictures has the fence on focus while everything else is blurry. She asks Tina if she meant to do it like that and Tina claims that she did.
    • After Tammy cuts up the negative of the fence photo, Tina rearranges and tapes together the negative so she’d still have something to turn it. Everybody at the photography show is impressed with the resulting photo, thinking that Tina decided to be unique with the “Different Perspectives” theme. Tina goes along with the assumption, especially since the photo significantly improves her grade.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Continuing their trend. Jimmy Jr., Zeke, Tammy and Jocelyn all find hanging out at a half-demolished house to be awesome, while Tina and Susmita are bored and a little grossed out when they join in.
  • Karma Houdini: Zigzagged. Tammy, Jocelyn, Zeke, and Jimmy Jr. don't get punished for ditching, nor does Tammy directly get punished for destroying Tina's photo (even if it helped Tina overall), but Tammy does get some karma when everyone spots a booger hanging out of Tammy's nose in her photo, humiliating her.
  • Meaningful Echo: Branca tells Louise how he glued the pieces of the ship together but came out a little different. Later, after Tammy tore up the negative of Tina's picture, Louise suggests gluing it back together, repeating Branca's words.
  • The Reveal: Mr. Branca keeps mopping the spot in front of the trophy case because he accidentally broke a model ship and was trying to cover his tracks until he could fix it.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Skipping School: Jimmy Jr., Zeke, Tammy, and Jocelyn often skip photography class to get slushies and hang out at a half demolished house they call "half house." Tina is tempted to go but she's worried about her grades in class.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Linda tells Violet not to look under the bed, and not because there's dirty clothes shoved under there.
  • Taking Advantage of Generosity: When Linda tells Violet "to come back anytime," Violet does so. Repeatedly. To the point she gets her entire family into the apartment and makes Linda help them rearrange the furniture to show her mother for her birthday. Bob begs and pleads with Linda to stop going along with it.
  • That's What She Said: Not seen but alluded to through the Store Next Door, "That's What Shoe Said".
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Played with, as Violet does leave yet keeps coming back with more and more of her family until they basically rearrange the apartment to surprise Violet's mother. Linda keeps going along with it while Bob begs her to stop.
  • We Need a Distraction: Mr. Branca needs to replace the model ship while everyone is looking at the student photos, so Louise and Gene create a distraction by having them look at how much cheese Gene can eat.
