Tracey: Do you think this smoke's the right colour?
Sharon: Why? Are you worried people might think we've chosen a new Pope?
Tracey Stubbs asking whether the smoke signal being generated from Dorien's dress is the right colour to Sharon Theodopolopodous.

  • Date First Aired: 30/11/1998

The girls are having an incredibly boring Sunday, so Tracey suggests going down to the antique market to get a wedding present for Garth. However, things are complicated when they manage to get themselves locked into the car park for the week, with the only way out being through a Disgusting Public Toilet.

Soon, the girls try to figure out ways to get out, including a smoke signal using Dorien's dress, but nothing works and they're resigned to being stuck with only a few sweets for company, impending death, and decreasing sanity. Later that evening, however, as Dorien is seeking to have a piss, she comes across an exit, although she neglects to tell the sisters for a couple of hours, leading them to assume that she had died. Luckily, Dorien isn't that bad and returns to save them. Well, until the door locks them in again. They decide to take their chances and run through the Disgusting Public Toilet to escape.

Tropes In This Episode:

  • Ambiguous Syntax: When discussing how to get help to escape a locked parking garage:
    Dorien: Let's shout in unison.
Tracey: No, I think we should shout "Help".
  • Banging for Help: One of Dorien's plans to escape involves banging for help on the pipes, although she is forced to abandon the idea when it turns out that there aren't any pipes in sight to bang on.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Dorien returns to save Tracey and Sharon from the parking garage they were trapped in (Although she did find an exit hours ago and just didn't tell them because she wanted to have a bath).
  • Cabin Fever: The girls get locked inside a parking garage and begin to lose it.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: Dorien's phone conveniently has no battery, which would have sped up the episode if it was charged.
  • Continuity Nod: Sharon mentions the time they were in Majorca. Furthermore, her saying that she'd have to eat both herself and Tracey recalls something similar when they deliberately imprisoned themselves in "Muesli".
  • Curse Cut Short: The episode ends with them running into the men's bathroom shouting "SHIIII-!"
  • Disgusting Public Toilet: The only apparent exit (at first) is through an extremely disgusting men's bathroom, a bathroom so disgusting that they would rather remain in the car park than take their chances going through it.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: When the girls get locked in a dingy parking garage, Dorien tries to keep a level head, until her phone's battery dies and she loudly begins panicking. Sharon then slaps her to shut her up.
Tracey: She's goin', Shal. She's goin' 'ysterical again. SMACK HER, SHAL. SMACK 'ER!
  • The Ghost:
    • Mia, who wants Sharon to help run a bar for her.
    • Jack, the previous owner of Dorien's car.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Tracey and Sharon's attempt to get Dorien out of her car.
Tracey: We're sorry, Dor. We just got a bit hyper. If you come out, we'll give ya mints a day early. We'll be really nice to ya, in fact we'll love ya to death.
Sharon: Oi. If you don't come outta there, I'm gonna set fire t' this and dance 'round the flames.
  • Got Me Doing It: Dorien briefly picks up Tracey and Sharon's common talk.
Dorien: Oh, well, surprise surprise, it has to be something of mine, well I ain't... I haven't got anything either.
  • Hating on Monday: Sharon claims to hate Sundays, mainly due to the boredom associated with it.
Tracey: I hate the Sunday papers.
    Sharon: I hate Sundays.
  • Hysterical Woman: Tracey and Dorien freak out when they get locked inside a parking garage and Sharon is the one to calm them down.
  • I'm a Humanitarian:
    • Dorien begins developing cannibalistic thoughts when locked inside a parking garage with Tracey and Sharon.
Sharon: Take no notice of 'er Trace. She wouldn't eat us, we're not kosher.
Dorien: Well I wouldn't eat you anyway. You must be full of E numbers!
    • Tracey and Sharon then flip it back on her.
Sharon: Me and Tracey are partial to a bit o' Jewish nosh. We could go a bit of gefilte Dorien.
Tracey: That's right. I've never 'ad Dorien on a bagel.
  • Locked in a Freezer: The girls manage to get locked in a car park with little food or entertainment.
  • Locked in a Room: The girls are trapped in a parking garage and begin to slowly go mad.
  • Minimalist Cast: Only Tracey, Sharon and Dorien appear in this episode.
  • One-Word Title: The name of the episode is "Sunday".
  • Parking Garage: Much of the action for the episode takes place in a car park where the girls have managed to get themselves trapped in.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: The sisters fear that Dorien may have died when she doesn't return from an act of going to the loo, possibly from a case of Potty Failure. In reality, she had only found a way out and neglected to tell them.
  • Shout-Out: Sharon complains that they'll lose the thread of Brookside when it becomes clear that they're trapped for the week.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • Both Tracey and Dorien say "A week!" when Sharon mentions how they're likely to be trapped for an entire week.
    • All three girls shout "SHIIIII-!" as they charge into the disgusting men's toilets.
  • Sunday is Boring: Sharon in particular hates Sundays for their boredom and feels that they get even more boring when Harry Secombe shows up.
  • Take That!: Sharon believes that the boredom of Sundays increases when Harry Secombe shows up.
  • You Dirty Rat!: The girls find rats in the car park, with Dorien being the most squicked out by them.
