Go To

Hiro and Fred enlist a reluctant Karmi to get info on Orso Knox's recovery, but after they find him, he gets set loose.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Hiro's contact picture on Karmi's phone is the picture of Hiro with red paint on his face after his failed project that Karmi took of him in "Failure Mode".
  • Catch a Falling Star: When the mutated Knox flees with Hiro, the latter almost falls from a great height while trying to escape from his grasp, but Knox managed to save him before he hits the ground.
  • Cat Scare: Monster!Knox gets spooked by a cat popping out of a trash can he was sniffing around.
  • Death Glare: Karmi gives one to Hiro when Fred accidentally destroys her viruses.
  • Dramatic Irony: Hiro finds out that Orso Knox is a Non-Malicious Monster in need of help. Then, they get separated, and Hiro's friends give Knox a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown thinking that he did something bad to Hiro.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Even with everything that had happened in their past, Karmi helps Hiro with finding Knox and getting a cure done. She also shows genuine worry when Hiro gets snatched by Knox and asks "Captain Cutie" about him when Big Hero 6 shows back up at Sycorax. The smile she gives Hiro in the Periodic Cafe is the icing on the cake.
  • Delicious Distraction: Hiro attempts to coax Knox back into his cell with a trail of food, allowing Hiro to reestablish containment and end the lockdown. It almost works, but Hiro blows it by stepping on some of the food while trying to reach the panel, getting Knox's attention.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: On sub-basement level 9, Liv comes out of the shadows to catch Karmi, Hiro, Fred and Baymax trespassing.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Chris. Fred calls him "handsome" and Wasabi swoons about his "so symmetrical" face.
  • Funny Background Event: Fred playing around with Karmi's petri dishes while she and Hiro talk about Knox.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Fred tells Hiro he finds his mother's "joy screaming" embarrassing, right before screaming in joy over cupcakes.
  • Ill-Timed Sneeze: After the team corners Monster Knox, Hiro warns everyone not to do anything to set him off. Unfortunately, there's too much dust in the air for Wasabi to handle.
  • Leonine Contract: Liv forces Knox to invest in her company because he's fitted with one of her Bio-Augmentation chips and she can cause a relapse of his mutation whenever she wants.
  • Lockdown: When Knox is released from containment, Sycorax goes into lockdown and titanium blast shields seal the building. Big Hero 6 has trouble breaking in through it, but Knox crashes right through them.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Knox's extended time as a monster has caused him to degenerate into a feral state.
  • Monstrous Germs: When Baymax is debunking the "five second rule", he shows an animation where the germs are represented as green, horned creatures.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Even with his degraded intelligence, Knox only attacks to defend himself and never deliberately tries to hurt anyone.
  • The Reveal: Liv is responsible for Knox's transformation into a monster, using the same technology that she used to enhance Momakase.
  • Shoot the Dog: Liv encourages Big Hero 6 to kill Knox because he's too dangerous to be loose in his feral state. Fortunately, Hiro manages to show them that Knox isn't dangerous before it comes to that.
  • Shout-Out: Orso Knox breathing on the glass where Hiro, Karmi, & Baymax are hiding bears an eerie resemblance to Jurassic Park.
  • The Sociopath: Throughout the episode, Liv repeatedly portrays signs of a clear lack of emotions, having to explain how she's feeling or make herself feel something instead for most of the episode. Then comes the reveal that she's the one who transformed Knox into a monster.
