Country Side

After settling into the country, Cricket tries to teach Remy that a lot of things can be fun, but he takes it too far and it could land them both in huge trouble. Meanwhile, Tilly is bothered by the boys keeping her awake and tries to find a new place to rest.

"Country Side" contains examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Cricket and Remy are grounded, and Tilly is no longer Cricket's roommate. But on the good side, Remy realizes living in the country is fun and they make the best out of it, and Tilly can finally sleep in peace.
  • Book Ends: The episode begins with Cricket and Remy in their room waking up and annoying Tilly with their antics, and ends with the boys back in their room grounded while Tilly has moved to her own room where she can finally sleep in peace.
  • The Bus Came Back: Old Joe, Bill's friend from "Friend Con", reappears to give him a housewarming gift of a can of worms.
  • Crazy-Prepared: After the boys are grounded by Bill and sent to their room, Bill has even boarded up Cricket's window so he won't escape out.
  • Foreshadowing: After settling in her new room, Tilly mentions that she hasn't found Saxon yet. This comes into play in "Homeward Hound", which premiered the following week.
  • "Getting My Own Room" Plot: Tilly is kept awake by Cricket and Remy's talking all night, so she sleeps in Bill's closet. When Bill tells her the house is big enough for her to have her own room, Tilly decides to do just that. However, the choices she makes for a new room — the chicken coop and under the sink of Nancy's trailer — are less than ideal. Tilly reveals to Nancy that she's afraid of being on her own after sleeping with Cricket all her life, but Nancy convinces her that her family will still be nearby and will never be truly alone. In the end, she chooses a room opposite Cricket's.
  • Go to Your Room!: Bill says this word-per-word to the boys after he punishes them for throwing worms at him.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Bill reaches his when Cricket throws worms at him.
  • Tempting Fate: After hiding in the barn loft, Cricket says Bill won't find them for a while... just as Bill's hand bursts through the floorboards.
  • You Are Grounded!: Cricket and Remy are grounded by Bill after he finally catches up to them.

Junk Mountain

During a visit to the junkyard, Cricket sees his old friend Hector has gotten older and has changed, and tries to get him to bring out the fun he still has in him. Meanwhile, Tilly tries to find her dream car.

"Junk Mountain" contains examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Cricket comes to terms with Hector growing up and being too old to play Junk Mountain with him. Fortunately, Hector's baby sister Lupita is old enough to play with him and Remy, and turns out to be a good player.
  • Book Ends: When Cricket and Remy first encounter Lupita (who's the same age as them), he shoos her away prior to encountering the grown-up Hector. Lupita returns near the end after Cricket finally accepts Hector's changes and passes his former position to her.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set in the junkyard the Greens visit.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Cricket goes through the five stages based on his experience with the now teenaged Hector. He’s initially in denial over his sudden growth spurt and personality change and says no to Bill when he quips Hector has gotten older (Denial), gets upset and angry when he tries to remind him of the past only to get pulled away by the other teens and even screams against Remy asking him to accept his changes (Anger), willingly takes him away from the teen party to have him on Junk Mountain all to himself (Bargaining), feels guilty when he sees Hector misses his new friends and lets him go back to the party (Depression), and finally accepts Hector's new life and lets him move on, and gives his former slot to his little sister Lupita (Acceptance).
  • I Got Bigger: In the time since they last saw each other, Hector has become a teenager twice as tall as Cricket.
  • Imagine Spot: Tilly looks for a dream car in the junkyard and imagines what will be like driving, but each one ends badly. First she chooses a sports car, but imagines getting a speeding ticket. Next up is a hearse, but then a vampire inside the casket attacks her. Finally, she chooses a hot dog mobile, but a dog attacks it.
  • Losing Horns: In Tilly's second imagine spot, she is leading a New Orleans-style funeral parade on a hearse when a vampire attacks her. As the hearse drives off a cliff, a skeleton plays "Wah-wah-waaah!" on the trombone.
  • Passing the Torch: At the end, Cricket gives Lupita Hector's old play shield so she can continue playing Junk Mountain in his place.
  • Shout-Out: The dog in Tilly's last imagine spot is a Saint Bernard with glowing red eyes, a reference to Cujo.
  • Thememobile: The last car Tilly looks at is a hot-dog shaped truck, based on the Oscar Meyer Wiennermobile.
  • Title Drop: Junk Mountain is the name of the game Cricket and Hector used to play.
