The Move

After Bill buys back the Greens' old country home, this prompts the family to leave Big City and return to the country with Remy in tow. However, they soon discover a lot has changed since they left, and struggle to settle in with their surroundings.

"The Move" contains examples of:

  • Answer Cut: When Tilly asked what Vasquez will do without him around, Remy says he'll just go back to his hobbies. Cut to Vasquez painting a portrait of Remy... and then tearfully begging him to come back.
  • The Cameo: Chase is seen waving goodbye to the Greens as the family is heading back to the country.
  • Cartoon Throbbing: Cricket claims that his feet are so hardened they are immune to poison oak, but when he makes a trail through it, his feet turn red and swell to twice their size. They return to normal once Cricket dips them in mud.
  • Company Cross References: In "When I Get Home", when Tilly sings about "being friend to every creature, big and small", she pictures herself as Snow White.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The episode opens on several characters from the show talking about the Greens moving back to the country, mentioning past events from previous episodes.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Disaster Dominoes: Right after Bill, in his "Fix-it mode", declares he's gonna fix all the problems with the house during the day and "nobody's gonna stop him", he drops a coat rack that sets off a series of accidents that wreck the house even further.
  • Disney Creatures of the Farce: Tilly remembers being friends with all the woodland creatures, singing to them in a princess outfit. But when she tries to do it again, the animals attack her instead.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode continues after the ending of "Dirt Jar" revealing Bill re-purchased the Greens' old house after seeing it up for sale, resulting in the family moving back to the country.
  • Long Last Look: Cricket and Tilly take one last glance at the Green house, and all of Big City (especially some of the people they met), before leaving to return to the country.
  • Mid-Season Twist: The Greens move back to the country.
  • No Party Like a Donner Party: After the children get lost in the woods, Cricket laments "he'll have to eat his best friend to survive", much to Remy's annoyance. Then, Remy finds the way to The Fort:
Cricket: Remy, you're a genius! I'm glad I didn't have to eat you!
    Remy: You were serious?!
  • Sand In My Eyes: Gramma blames her "tear ducts betraying at her" when the kids discover she was crying.
  • Sanity Slippage: Bill soon becomes obsessed with fixing everything in the house right away, while Nancy tries to get him to stop and just relax on the porch swing.
  • "Setting Off" Song: The Greens sing "When I Get Home" as they are moving back to the country and express what they missed.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: This is the main conflict the Greens have in this episode. For Cricket and Tilly, them living in Big City for so long has softened them to the point where Cricket's bare feet are no longer immune to country hazards like poison oak and Tilly can no longer communicate with country critters. For Bill, he tries to repair all the damage in the old house at once, but no matter how hard he tries, it just makes things worse.
  • Sudden Eye Color: When attempting to sing for the forest animals, Tilly's eyes turn green for a few moments.
  • There Was a Door: When a deer gets trapped inside the house, Bill opens the front door for it, but the deer leaps through the window instead.
  • Title-Only Opening: Just as with "Green Christmas", the title sequence is absent and only an instrumental bit of the theme is heard before the title is displayed as the Kludge drives back to the country.
