Recap / Batman The Brave And The Bold S 3 E 9 Bold Beginnings

Go To

Teaser: Batman helps Space Ghost against an evil alien. Yes, really.

Main story: While being held captive by Mr. Freeze, Green Arrow, Plastic Man, and Aquaman each reminisce on the first time they teamed up with Batman.

  • And This Is for...: "This is for interrupting my story!" (Aquaman punches Mr. Freeze)
  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to argue that Creature King didn't deserve what happened to him.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Ruby Ryder, who uses the hostage situation as her opportunity to reveal her partner in crime is none other than Cavalier.
  • Berserk Button: Never come between a man and his story. Mister Freeze learned this the hard way.
  • Character Death: It can be assumed that after Creature King's minions no longer obeyed him that he presumably died.
  • Expy: Ruby Ryder and Cavalier take on a Bonnie and Clyde role in Green Arrow's story, with Ruby being the Bonnie to Cavalier's Clyde.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After Batman knocks out Creature King with a punch and the mind control helmet he was using falls off his head, his creature minions turn on him.
  • Jerkass: Creature King as always.
  • Lack of Empathy: Cavalier and Ruby Ryder both. Both of them leave Batman and Green Arrow for dead, with them deciding not to spare the two as they make their getaway.
  • Prequel: It can be assumed that each flashback story featured in this episode being told by Green Arrow, Plastic Man, and Aquaman were set before the events of "Rise of the Blue Beetle!", "Terror on Dinosaur Island!", and "Evil Under The Sea!" respectively.
  • Suddenly Voiced: This episode is the first and only time Hammertoes has a few lines of dialogue, with Gregg Berger voicing Hammertoes.
  • Talk to the Fist: Aquaman land the final blow on Mr. Freeze for robbing him of his story telling opportunity.
  • Taught by Experience: When helping Aquaman to escape from the block of ice he is trapped in, Green Arrow mentions learning the old escaping-even-when-your-hands-are-tied-behind-your-back trick from Batman the amount of times the two teamed up together against villains.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Aquaman decides to stay behind to watch over Mr. Freeze and his goons until the police arrive, taking the opportunity to finish his story in the meantime. Mr. Freeze responds with a groan.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The main episode is told through the point of view of Green Arrow, Plastic Man, and Aquaman as they recall the first times they teamed up with Batman.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Children in this case. The Creature King does not take kindly to having his plans ruined by Jan and Jace to the point of having two wyverns sent after the two to keep them from interfering.
