Recap / Bar Rescue S 4 E 11 Second Base Third Strike

Go To

Two years after Jon helped remodel Extremes Bar and Grill into Second Base, the bar has gone downhill again, and Terry has reverted to his old practices. Forced to come back to re-rescue Terry, Jon finds himself in a repeat of what he witnessed two years ago, only much worse than what he expected.

Episode Tropes:

  • The Cameo: Joseph Brooks from the first rescue appears as part of Jon's recon.
  • Cassandra Truth: At first, Jon did not believe Garry's or Sara's arguments on how Terry pulled control from the former and was working with nothing. However, once Jon learns more the following morning, he starts to believe Garry and Sara, going as far as to apologize to the former for not believing in him,
  • Downer Ending: Terry flat-out refuses to invest any money into the second remodel, resulting in Jon walking out on the re-rescue. Somehow, the bar is still open as of November 2023.
  • Happy Ending Override: That golden ending we saw at the end of the first rescue? Completely gone by the time this episode begins.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Terry has the gall to criticize Garry for not giving him help after another yelling match with Jon despite the fact he never helped his manager with anything before the re-rescue.
  • Internal Reveal: After the recon, Jon begins to piece together what caused Second Base to go down. We the audience already knew that Terry had let the bar fall due to the intro narration.
  • Irony: Jon Taffer said he did research on the bar, yet apparently, it wasn't enough to immediately recognize Terry as the problem over Garry.
  • Never My Fault: Terry blames the numerous sports bars that opened near Second Base led to declining profits. The truth is, Terry did not invest more in the bar as expected, but instead invested the profits to another bar he owns.
  • Not So Above It All: In a fit of rage, Garry tears down a divider nearly hitting a customer.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After a verbal beatdown from Jon, Garry vented his frustration by kicking down an extended drywall. He was frustrated due to Terry not giving him the proper help and was being blamed for things he had no control over.
  • Reset Button: Rather than keep the food and drink programs Jon and his experts implemented in the first episode, Terry decided to scrap them and revert to the old menus. Also, the uniforms the bartenders received were gone as they went back to the bikini theme of Extremes.
  • The Scapegoat: Terry set up bar manager Garry as the fall guy for Jon to yell at as it looked like Garry was not taking proper care of the bar. The truth is, Garry could not keep the bar up because Terry did not give him the resources to maintain the quality. Once Jon figures out what happened, he switches his anger towards Terry.
  • Sequel Episode: To the Extremes Bar and Grill Episode back in Season 2.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Despite Terry calling in Bar Rescue to save his ass again, he spends the entire episode as this. He took all the profits Second Base accumulated and put it into his second bar and paid off his debt, but he did not put a single cent into Second Base and let it suffer. Then, he has the gall to insult Lisamarie Joyce for telling him how to fix his bar when she is coming in on her time off to help him. Lastly, he spends most of his time arguing with Jon, leading the latter to deem him a lost cause who only cares about himself.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: The disastrous Stress Test led Jon and his experts to deem it one of the worst they have witnessed.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Only Crystal and Sara from the first episode remain on at Second Base. The other bartenders left in between episodes.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Taffer walks out, he gives a speech like this to the staff, telling them he believes in them even though he doesn't believe in the owner, and he will help them find jobs elsewhere.
