Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Croaker points out to Toadie how the Wartwood villagers have had to collectively shape up under the threat of Andrias' Tyranny, the camera shows Maddie putting on a spiked Knuckleduster, Loggle doing one-armed push ups, and Wally... sitting in a wooden chair and calmly carving a wooden duck. Then, he flips around the duck to show the other side is more scarred and badass-looking whilst giving a Death Glare.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: The meek and unassertive Toadie ends up becoming a fierce and ruthless leader when pushed too far.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Anne is right to be concerned that the others were captured by the Marauders, Sasha is also correct that her team is competent enough to escape on their own, and they risk being captured themselves if they try to help.
  • The Bus Came Back: Barry, the candy man from Season 1, returns in this episode as the leader of the Marauders... and gets turned into a bird again by Maddie.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Barry. It's never stated if the kids revealed his hidden pettiness from season 1, but Barry has dropped all pretense of being nice in public, shown when he removes his helmet which would have kept his identity secret from his fellow townsfolk. He also explains what his and the Marauders' plans are, showing he is now being openly petty and selfish in public.
  • Chekhov's Boomerang: Back in season 1, Maddie felt Barry was too dangerous of a magic user to be left unchecked and wanted him to stay a bird permanently. When Maddie gets Barry cornered, she immediately throws a curse at him.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: Sasha gets these when she exasperatedly explains to Anne who the Marauders are and how they're 'a huge unwashed thorn' in her side, indicating her frustration with their wanton raids and leeching off their valuable resources.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode gives some more focus to Toadie.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Mrs. Croaker, the most experienced member of her team and a skilled fighter, is knocked out during the rebels' first escape attempt, forcing the others (especially Toadie) to step up.
  • Dramatic Irony: Name-dropped by Wally after Sasha outlines their plans to 'thieve from the thieves'.
  • Filler Villain: The Marauders, led by Barry, are unaffiliated with either Andrias or the Resistance, but serve as a problematic threat to the resistance due to hijacking their weapon supplies, forcing them to confront them before resuming operations against Andrias' army. It turns out that Barry is willing to make deals with Andrias to sell him slaves or resistance members for extra cash, but otherwise the group isn't part of his forces.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Mrs. Croaker gives this to Loggle when he starts having a nervous breakdown after they've been captured, lamenting that he's too beautiful to die. When Toadie shapes up as a leader when she's knocked unconscious during their first escape attempt, he gives multiple ones to Loggle as a form of punctuation to his plan to break out.
    Loggle: Enough with the slapping!
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: Sasha says this word for word when the group arrives at the seemingly deserted Marauder camp. And as you’d expect, they were walking into an ambush.
  • Just Desserts: The ending implies that Barry will end up as a meal for his own marauders.
  • The Pen Is Mightier: Toadie ends up using his pencil stubs as weapons.
  • The Quisling: While Barry and his Marauders are an independent group, they are willing to make deals with Andrias and sell slaves to him.
  • Right Behind Me: Toadie gets this when he thinks he accidentally blew Maddie up by knocking one of her magic pouches into her face.
Toadie: (Looking at the cloud of smoke where Maddie used to be) Oh my Gosh! I blew up Maddie!
Maddie: (Offscreen) You wish. (Camera pan to reveal Maddie standing right behind Toadie) Sup.
    Toadie: WAARGH!
  • Schmuck Bait: The Marauder camp seems to be completely empty and there is a tent with several signs which claim that the loot is inside. Unsurprisingly it is a trap.
  • Seeing Through Another's Eyes: Maddie is able to see through a spider's eyes after whispering an incantation to it, allowing the rebels to locate where the Marauders are keeping their weapons.
  • Shout-Out: The episode's title (and the accompanying promo art) is a reference to Charlie's Angels.
  • Slasher Smile: Just before Maddie turns Barry into a giant bird again, she sports an ear-to-ear grin and nods while laughing menacingly in response to his Rapid-Fire "No!"s.
  • Smoke Out: Some of Maddie's magic pouches have this effect, allowing her to achieve Offscreen Teleportation.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: When Barry gets turned into a bird again and sees his fellow Marauders want to eat him, Barry goes "Holy..." punctuated by a squawk.
  • Tempting Fate: One of Barry's last lines in the episode after his camp has been blown up and all their supplies stolen is, "This couldn't possibly get any worse?" For him, it does.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The Extreme Doormat Toadie becomes a fierce leader and fighter after he accidentally jeopardizes the rebels' mission.
  • Uncertain Doom: While Barry's death is not certain, his chances are not great as he is a giant chicken surrounded by very hungry Marauders.
  • Vocal Dissonance: The huge marauder Brian speaks with a ridiculously high, squeaky voice.
  • We Have Reserves: Subverted. Anne gets frustrated because she thinks Sasha only sees the residents of Wartwood as soldiers. Sasha assures her that she does care, having spent months with them, but also has to think of the bigger picture and trust that they can get themselves out of trouble.
  • We Wait: When everyone except Sasha and Anne are captured, Anne wants to rescue them, but Sasha tells her that would just get them captured as well and it's better to wait for the others to escape by themselves.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Croaker is frustrated by how Toadie always wants to be lookout because she can tell he's got more in him. She's vindicated by the end of the episode.
