The Plantars make it back to Wartwood, but they realize they forgot something important.

    Full Recap
TBA...

Tropes:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Lampshaded; Anne is convinced that the family should have learned by now that honesty is the best policy. She is Instantly Proven Wrong when the Plantars all decide to lie despite Anne urging them not to.
    • Justified in the case of Hop Pop, who really hasn't learned the lesson yet, considering he's been lying to Anne about the Calamity Box and its whereabouts for the entire season.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": The Plantars do this when the Chicka-lisk appears to take the fake presents.
  • Basilisk and Cockatrice: The Chicka-lisk is a giant chicken with bat-wings that has the ability to turn people into stone.
  • Brick Joke: Hop Pop leaves the Plantar Farm in the care of Chuck, the "I grow tulips" guy, when the family leaves in "Handy Anne". Guess what the farm fields are full of by the time they get back.
    Chuck: I grew tulips.
  • The Bus Came Back: Since "The Shut-In!" chronologically takes place after this episode, most of the residents of Wartwood return.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Cameo: Polly's new pet snail MicroAngelo from "Hopping Mall" appears briefly inside the fwagon where Polly kisses him while looking for the list, then throws him aside.
  • Candlelit Ritual: Invoked by Anne. Though Polly notes that the book does not list candles as a requirement for the summoning ritual, Anne insists that they need candles for the ritual to give it the "evil ritual vibe".
  • Death Glare: When the citizens of Wartwood bemoan over failing to save their gifts, which were because of a scheme devised by Polly, Sprig, and Hop-Pop, Anne gives them a very severe scowl. This is what pressures them into blurting out the truth to the townsfolk.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The Plantars perform the kid's show-equivalent of a satanic ritual in order to summon their monster.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: The townsfolk's attacks provoke and inconvenience the Chicka-lisk, but what gets it to leave in the end is the fact that it finds their "Chicka-lisk Formation" offensive.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Plantars' plan more or less goes exactly as planned, but the town folk become so depressed about letting the family down by failing to protect the gifts, that they confess there were never any presents.
  • Human Shield: Mayor Toadsworth uses Toadie as one to protect himself from the Chicka-lisk's fire breath. He wasn't even aware that Toadie was currently petrified.
  • Language Barrier: The Chicka-lisk is fairly eloquent and reasonable, but communicates in a variety of screeches that predates written history and is unintelligible to everyone present.
  • Liar Revealed: The Plantars reveal to the Wartwood citizens that they didn’t actually get the gifts they promised to bring them from Newtopia, and the present boxes destroyed by the Chicka-lisk were actually empty. However, instead of being furious with them for this massive whopper, the citizens of Wartwood actually don’t mind that much. They don’t really care about the gifts themselves; they just thought life in Wartwood was pretty boring without the action-packed adventures that were caused by the Plantars, such as the above-mentioned Chicka-lisk.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: The Chicka-lisk believes the presents are a gift for him and only attacks the villagers when they attack first. He is actually rather polite, but nobody can understand him.
  • Not Me This Time: Anne takes a moment to enjoy the fact that for once she is not the one having to learn a moral lesson.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Chicka-lisk decides to unsummon itself when the villagers do their Chicka-lisk formation and imitate it... because it's offended by their attempt.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: In-Universe; Anne uses "Sprivy" as a ship name for Sprig and Ivy.
  • Shipper on Deck: Anne is against lying about the Plantars not buying the gifts for the townsfolk, but only does it so Ivy won't believe Sprig forgot about her. When Ivy kisses Sprig at the end, Anne squees, only to have to be pulled back by an unamused Polly.
    Polly: OK, we're done here.
  • Shout-Out: The Tome of Eldritch Lore Sprig has, made of flesh with a face on it, is clearly the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.
  • Snowball Lie: For once, it's not initiated by Anne, but by Hop Pop when he realizes he forgot to pick up items that the villagers asked him to get from Newtopia. He concocts an elaborate plan to pretend that he did get the gifts but they were all destroyed, and Sprig and Polly get roped in because they don't want the embarrassment either. Anne lampshades how often they end up in these situations. Hop Pop ignores her.
Anne: Lying will only make it worse. I feel like we've learned that lesson by now.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Wally, upon welcoming the Plantar family back, says that he hasn’t seen them since they left, and definitely not during their journey. Polly annoys him by calling him by his full name "Walliam".
  • Taken for Granite: The Chicka-lisk's eyes have the ability to turn people into stone with eye beams. Thankfully Maddie is able to unpetrify them just as easily.
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: Sprig has one (courtesy of Maddie) which is used it to summon the Chicka-lisk. That the cover is made of flesh is not seen as a deterrent.
  • White Mage: Maddie takes on this role by using her potions to cure the frogs who were turned into stone.
